Chapter 11 Whose Baby
In a panic, the gray-clothed aunt actually threw the child she was holding to the side, scrambled to her feet, and bolted away. Fortunately, the train police reacted quickly and were able to catch up and subdue her within a few steps.
The commotion drew the attention of nearby passengers. At first, no one understood what was happening, but once they saw the situation clearly, it dawned on them—they had encountered human traffickers!
Several strong men in the carriage, fueled by righteous indignation, jumped up to help, restraining the two resisting women with their combined efforts while muttering that they should be made to face proper punishment.
Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed from the adjacent carriage—apparently, accomplices of the traffickers had realized their plan was exposed and were trying to escape. Jiang Qingzhou, alert to everything, would not let them flee easily. He shot forward like an arrow.
The fleeing trafficker stumbled slightly. Seizing the moment, Jiang Qingzhou delivered a flying kick to the back of the man’s knee, sending him crashing to the ground. Enraged, the trafficker scrambled to his feet, a grimace twisting his face, and pulled a gleaming dagger from his pocket, lunging viciously at Jiang Qingzhou.
Jiang Qingzhou’s eyes were sharp, his movements agile. He dodged the deadly strike with ease. The trafficker, missing his target, became even more frenzied, slashing wildly at Jiang Qingzhou’s vital points. But Jiang Qingzhou was no ordinary man; his military training and combat experience kept him calm. After several rounds, the trafficker began to tire.
Seizing the opportunity, Jiang Qingzhou moved in close, locked the trafficker’s wrist holding the knife, twisted hard, and with a scream from the man, the dagger clanged to the floor. Using the momentum, Jiang Qingzhou executed a perfect over-the-shoulder throw, pinning the trafficker to the ground and fully subduing him.
With everyone working together, the traffickers were escorted to the train management office. Upon checking, six human traffickers had been captured, and four children rescued—all very young. Two were about four or five years old, and the other two under two, their delicate faces evoking deep sympathy.
Luckily, a doctor was traveling on the train. After checking the children, he breathed a sigh of relief. “The children were given a drug that caused them to lose consciousness. Give them plenty of water to dilute it; they should be fine.”
Hearing this, Fang Yingyue quickly fetched water and carefully fed it to the little girl in her arms. About five minutes later, the girl woke up, blinking in confusion before bursting into a frightened, pitiful cry. Fang Yingyue patted her back gently, soothing her softly: “It’s okay, baby. Don’t be afraid, it’s alright.”
Soon, the little boy beside her woke up. His black eyes darted around, and when he saw his sister, tears instantly filled his eyes. He cried out loudly, calling, “Sister! Sister! Daddy! Mommy!” tugging at everyone’s heart.
The little girl, hearing her brother, kicked her legs to signal Fang Yingyue to put her down. Understanding, Fang Yingyue gently set her down. The girl ran to her brother, hugging him tightly, patting his back while murmuring, “Don’t cry, don’t cry.” The child’s mature and caring demeanor tugged deeply at Fang Yingyue’s heart.
“Sweethearts, how old are you? What are your names? Do you know your parents’ names? Who else is in your family, and where do you live?” Fang Yingyue asked.
The little girl looked up at her, eyes full of trust and closeness, and obediently replied, “I’m four years old. Our home is in Puxi. My name is Zhao Zhisui, and this is my brother Zhao Jinnian.” She scratched her head, trying to recall more, “Daddy’s name is Zhao… Zhao Yunze, and Mommy…” She hesitated, unable to remember.
The little boy, quick-witted, chimed in: “Mommy is Xu Jiajia!”
Jiang Qingzhou, hearing the names, felt a sense of familiarity and a twinge of puzzlement. He crouched down, his gaze gentle yet probing. “Do you have grandparents?”
“Yes! Grandpa is the great hero Zhao Guowei, and Grandma is Xie Xiuying!”
Jiang Qingzhou’s expression instantly stiffened. He was now completely certain—these were the dragon-and-phoenix twins, Zhao Zhisui and Zhao Jinnian, from Commander Zhao’s family!
He could not waste a moment. With a grave expression, he approached the train conductor, explaining the situation earnestly, and quickly called Commander Zhao’s office.
On the other end, a slightly tired but steady voice answered:
“Hello.”
“Commander, this is Jiang Qingzhou.”
“Jiang Qingzhou? What’s going on?”
“Commander, on the train back to Longcheng, we successfully captured a gang of human traffickers—six in total—and rescued four children. Two of them, about four years old, are dragon-and-phoenix twins. I verified with their family information; these are your grandchildren, Zhao Zhisui and Zhao Jinnian.”
“What!” Commander Zhao was struck as if by lightning, nearly losing his balance. His voice choked with emotion.
“Good, good, quickly, let the children speak to me.”
Jiang Qingzhou gestured, and the two children were brought over. He quietly informed them that the call was from their grandfather. Their eyes lit up, and they scrambled to take the phone, still crying.
“Grandpa! Grandpa! We missed you! We couldn’t find Mommy and Daddy…”
Hearing their grandchildren cry, Commander Zhao’s tears fell. He struggled to hold back his pain and anxiety, his voice choked as he reassured them: “Zhisui, Jinnian, Grandpa has been thinking of you every day. Daddy, Mommy, and Grandma have been worried about you too. For now, stay with Uncle Jiang and Aunt Fang until your parents come to bring you home, alright?”
“Yes!”
Jiang Qingzhou took the phone and heard Commander Zhao gratefully say, “Qingzhou, thank you so much. Make sure Zhisui and Jinnian are safely brought to the island.”
“Commander, catching traffickers is my duty. Don’t worry—I’ll take good care of them.”
After hanging up, the train was about to arrive at the next station, Hongcheng. Jiang Qingzhou had already contacted the local police, who were ready to escort the traffickers.
He turned to the conductor: “These two children will go with me to Longcheng. The others will get off at Hongcheng. The remaining two children, after getting off, please send them to a hospital for a checkup. Someone will handle the handover.”
“Thanks to everyone’s cooperation, we were able to capture the traffickers and ensure the safety of the passengers.”
Everyone smiled at one another, filled with relief. The train slowly pulled into Hongcheng Station, where the local police were already fully prepared.
