Chapter 83: Death Class 7 (Part 7)
Xiao Muyu was speechless. The resting part was obvious. But that wasn’t what she meant.
“I didn’t say you could rest on my bed.”
Shen Qingqiu pulled the blanket over her head, ignoring Xiao Muyu. “If you can call her Tiantian and me Shen Qingqiu,” she said in a muffled voice, “I can sleep on your bed.”
Xiao Muyu was exasperated. “Where’s the logic in that?”
Shen Qingqiu didn’t respond immediately. After a moment, her voice came out soft and coquettish. “I’m injured. Can’t you indulge me a little?”
When Xiao Muyu gave no response, she mumbled, “And sleeping alone… scares me.”
In the darkness, an amused huff sounded beside her. Xiao Muyu had no way to deal with this woman. “You, scared?” She sighed resignedly. “Scared you’ll scare the ghosts instead?”
But then her lips curved. “Alright,” Xiao Muyu said softly. “Rest now.”
She said nothing more, which was a sign of approval.
Shen Qingqiu’s lips quirked. She couldn’t resist turning to gaze at Xiao Muyu. Why did it feel like Xiao Muyu had become gentler?
A slender finger reached out in the darkness. It pressed against Shen Qingqiu’s forehead, nudging her face away. Everything was quiet again after that.
Shen Qingqiu still had something to say. However, her consciousness began to blur.
*Dong, dong!*
Deep, resonant chimes jolted Xiao Muyu awake from her dream. Her eyes snapped open.
The next second, her pupils shrank. She swiftly turned and scanned her surroundings. She looked shocked.
Xiao Muyu found she wasn’t lying on a bed but standing on the school’s sports field.
Above her was a lonely streetlamp, casting a bright circle of light. Despite standing within the circle, there was no shadow beneath her feet.
Although it was nighttime, the surroundings weren’t dark. A white fog blanketed the area, making everything around Xiao Muyu hazy and indistinct.
Gradually, she noticed the fog subtly shifting. Shadows wandered within it, becoming clearer and clearer.
Xiao Muyu tensed up. Her eyes fixed on the approaching shadows, full of vigilance.
Suddenly, a shadow rushed at her from behind. Startled, Xiao Muyu clenched her right hand into a fist and swung it backward.
The other party caught her fist before she could make contact.
She was about to struggle. “It’s me!” the person hurriedly exclaimed. “I finally found you.”
“Shen Qingqiu?” Xiao Muyu let out a breath. She quickly gave her a few glances, then asked quietly, “This is what’s supposed to happen tonight?”
“Seems like it.” Shen Qingqiu’s expression turned serious. “We’re not the only ones here.”
“So, you’re saying anyone lured into making eye contact with that thing will end up… here.” Xiao Muyu trailed off when she suddenly saw Zuo Tiantian. Her eyes widened slightly.
“Zuo Tiantian? What are you doing here? Where’s Su Jin?” As soon as she finished speaking, a few more people appeared. Among them was Su Jin.
“What’s going on?” Shen Qingqiu’s expression shifted as well. “Did you guys encounter that thing?”
Weren’t Su Jin and Zuo Tiantian staying in the teachers’ dormitory? Was there no way to avoid it at all? And Su Jin was a teacher.
“We couldn’t avoid it,” Su Jin said with a frustrated look. “It appeared too suddenly.”
Shen Qingqiu had even quietly warned her never to look into that thing’s eyes right after she returned.
Su Jin sighed and said in a lowered voice, “It’s fine that I’m here, though. I wouldn’t feel at ease leaving you all behind.”
When Shen Qingqiu had warned her not to look into that thing’s eyes while hiding it from Xiao Muyu, it worried Su Jin. If she hadn’t come in, Shen Qingqiu would have to face all this alone.
Yet, Su Jin felt she might have overthought it upon glancing at Xiao Muyu. There was no way Xiao Muyu would let Shen Qingqiu handle everything on her own.
A short while later, Xiao Muyu noticed they weren’t the only ones here. Her other four roommates were also present. Everyone slowly congregated, including Huang Meng and Zhang Zhu, who sat in the row behind Liu Ya in class.
Xiao Muyu counted a total of thirteen people. Eight girls, four boys, and Su Jin, the teacher.
Several students were shaking like sieves. They almost cried when they saw Su Jin. “Teacher,” Huang Meng called between choked sobs. “It’s our turn now. When will this end?”
Seeing a teacher felt like grasping a lifeline. The timid girls surrounded Su Jin. They didn’t dare leave her side.
“What the hell is this place!?” Zhang Zhu’s face flushed a deep red. He started shouting at the group, his emotions visibly unstable. “I’m dreaming! I must be! You’re all crazy to believe those messed-up things. It’s your delusions that caused them in the first place!”
The boy next to him grabbed him. He tried his best to calm Zhang Zhu down.
“Hehe.” A chuckle suddenly burst from the group. It had come from nowhere, scaring everyone into silence.
For a while, there was only the sound of rapid breathing and teeth chattering.
*Swish!*
Several lights in the sports field and school building corridors lit up simultaneously. These dim lights were like eyes peering on the lambs that had charged into the cage at night.
“Hehe.” There was that chuckle again. They heard it crystal clear this time. It came through the school broadcast. “Everyone had another day of classes today. You must be exhausted.”
“Aaah!” A girl in the group couldn’t help but scream. She pointed towards the broadcast room. “Did… did you guys hear it?” She pointed in the broadcast room’s general direction, shouting almost hysterically, “That voice, I know it!”
Su Jin, Zuo Tiantian, and Shen Qingqiu only sensed something amiss. However, Xiao Muyu’s expression changed. She had also heard the voice before.
“Luo Zihao,” Huang Meng said, her face ashen. “It’s Luo Zihao’s!”
Her words were the last straw, crushing the gathered students. Some others had discerned it now, too. “Teacher,” one said shakily, “It’s Luo Zihao speaking.”
“Ah, I didn’t expect everyone to be so familiar with my voice,” said supposedly Luo Zihao. “You all must miss me a lot now that I’m gone, huh? And the classmate who saw me off in my last moments is here, too. Wonderful. Next, let’s play a game. Mm. You’ll like it… It’s called… hide and seek.”
He spoke clearly at first. But the interference grew louder over time, and there was lisping. The broadcast amplified every sound. Everyone could hear gurgling, as if Luo Zihao’s mouth was filled with liquid.
Xiao Muyu and Shen Qingqiu had personally witnessed Luo Zihao’s death. They could picture the scene in the broadcast room.
Luo Zihao had blood gushing out of his mouth. Yet, he kept talking with a smile on his face.
“You can choose a place to hide. I’ll count to a hundred and then find you. Haha. You must stay with me if I find you within half an hour. Understand? Haha.”
They tried to make out what he said through his indistinct voice. But every word sounded like a death curse, striking fear deep into their souls.
“What… what does that mean? Where can we hide?”
*Ding!* “Players Xiao Muyu, Shen Qingqiu, Zuo Tiantian, and Su Jin activated Instance No. 004’s large-scale ongoing survival game—hide and seek. Although fun, don’t forget it is a death game. But please do not panic or despair. The dead will seek in the manner and posture of the dead.”
The four women frowned after hearing the system’s announcement while students were still shouting around them.
Shen Qingqiu swept her gaze over the group. “Stop yapping and keep your mouths shut,” she spat, cold and cruel. The panicked students didn’t even dare to breathe. The school bully’s might terrified them more than any ghost.
“Think carefully,” said Xiao Muyu. “What places is he not familiar with? Where could we blend in? Stay quiet and make no sound. No matter what you see or hear, don’t make noise, and don’t look!” Xiao Muyu didn’t have time to say more. She could only give them this hint.
Then, she raised her hand, signaling for everyone to disperse.
“I… I’m scared.” Tears stained Huang Meng’s face. She spoke while crying. “I don’t dare to be alone.”
“The limit is two people. Make yourselves a bigger target, and it’ll be useless no matter where you hide.” Xiao Muyu understood these students’ fear. However, she was no god, and everything was still confusing.
The four of them had no advantage besides their cards. They didn’t know the school as well as these students. Speaking of cards, Xiao Muyu quickly checked them.
Her heart sank at what she found. “I can’t use most of my cards.”
“It seems we can only play hide-and-seek,” said Shen Qingqiu. She inwardly cursed the system’s ancestors. “Forget about using force, then.”
“Fortunately, we can still use the “Loving Family” card. But what did the system mean by ‘the manner and posture of the dead’?”
They finally glimpsed a glimmer of hope in this instance. The card with little defensive and offensive ability remained available, which relieved them. However, one sentence the system said perplexed them.
“A normal person would have trouble finding someone in such a big school in half an hour. So, Luo Zihao will play the seeker in ghost form. That would give him speed and hearing much better than normal. ‘Posture of the dead’ likely means he’s using his corpse.” Otherwise, he wouldn’t be vomiting blood while speaking.
“Are… you… ready?” The creepy voice came from the broadcast again.
Time was of the essence. “Su Jin, Zuo Tiantian, you two should stay together,” Xiao Muyu said in a rush. “It’s best not to go to the classroom. Luo Zihao knows it well. There’s no hiding place there, either. Use the group chat if you have anything to say. And remember to check for news.”
“You don’t have to be too scared,” Shen Qingqiu whispered before leaving. “He’ll probably look for us first tonight.”
Su Jin’s heart went cold with dread. She wanted to say something, but Shen Qingqiu had already left with Xiao Muyu.
“One, two, three…” Luo Zihao started counting. Despite his fuzzy speech, the group of thirteen could hear him wherever they were through the broadcast.
His voice was like a deadly blade, stabbing them at every turn. It was distracting.
Shen Qingqiu had taken several careful tours of the school earlier. She had a clear understanding of Yuanning High’s layout.
Shen Qingqiu began explaining Yuanning High’s buildings in the “Loving Family” group chat.
“The three school buildings stand parallel to each other. They have the same layout. There’s a basketball court in front of the third-year division and a gymnasium across.
“The gym is massive, with two-story spectator stands and numerous seats. There are two rows of retractable seats as well. It’s a good place to hide.
“There’s an artificial lake behind the school buildings. To the right of the lake is the cafeteria. It’s three stories high, spacious, and only has seating.
“Behind the cafeteria are the dorms. There’s no place to hide there, either.
“In front of the cafeteria, there’s the administrative building, the library, and the physics and chem labs. These have many rooms and bookshelves—plenty of suitable hiding places.”
While listening, Xiao Muyu drew a campus floor plan and posted it in the group. Su Jin and Zuo Tiantian gaped at it.
“Then where should we go?” one of them asked.
Xiao Muyu listened to the ongoing broadcast. Her brows furrowed in thought. She typed a message.
[Start hiding. Luo Zihao isn’t human, so don’t expect him to stay in the broadcast room.]
Su Jin and Zuo Tiantian felt a chill down their spines. They looked around and immediately went to hide in the green belt nearby.
The corners of Shen Qingqiu’s mouth raised in a cold smile. She lifted her gaze and looked at the sycamore tree next to her. There was a pole with a tiny red dot on the tree.
The count reached fifty. Shen Qingqiu pulled out her dagger without hesitation. She approached the tree trunk, climbed up, and kicked the camera to pieces.
“Let’s not forget the surveillance,” Shen Qingqiu said. “We shouldn’t leave any of those intact.”
The computer and microphone in the broadcast room fell to the floor. Luo Zihao, who was counting, watched each image on the screen turning black. The face on his half-smashed head twisted, becoming more horrifying.
“Seventy, seventy-one!”
“He’s pissed. We should find a place to hide.”
It might seem there were many places for thirteen people to hide on campus, but Yuanning High was only so big. How long would a ghost take to find them? Xiao Muyu didn’t know and had no way to find out.
Most chose the gym because of its densely packed seats and eight exits.
But too many people hiding in one place would render it unsafe. Moreover, Luo Zihao would also know that was the best hiding place.
Xiao Muyu saw several people going there right off the bat. So, she and Shen Qingqiu couldn’t go there.
Su Jin and Zuo Tiantian also caught those people entering the gym. After receiving Shen Qingqiu’s explanation, the two chose to go to the library.
“Would that place be okay?” Su Jin asked.
Xiao Muyu considered it before answering, “Yes. But remember to hide down low, not up high.”
Author had something to say:
Xiao Shen is adorable indeed, but also shameless.
When she’s ruthless, she’s genuinely ruthless, and when she’s soft, she’s truly soft. Xiao Xiao never feels lonely with her around. She gets to experience various types of wives. Xiao Shen is both cool and cute, a top and a bottom.
