Your Acting Skills Are Impressive
When Nan Pei heard what the “college student” said, it felt like a taut string in his brain was about to snap. Duan Heng, standing nearby, looked at Nan Pei and then at Huo Yao, filled with confusion.
Changed more than just clothes? What did that mean?
Nan Pei noticed Duan Heng’s attention and felt his heart pounding like a drum, his throat dry. But he was playing a reserved character and couldn’t show too much emotion.
The “college student” looked at Nan Pei, raising an eyebrow with a slight smirk, like he was pleased with his little prank. His narrow, handsome eyes seemed to say—
Who told you to pretend not to know me?
Nan Pei knew if he kept pretending, this “college student” might say something crazy. If he exposed what happened in the entertainment storyline…
He’d be doomed.
“Oh, I remember now—” Nan Pei quickly adjusted, feigning realization, pointing at the “college student,” “It’s you!”
Huo Yao watched him leisurely and asked, “Remember now?”
“We met at that drinking party, President Wang,” Nan Pei said, walking towards Huo Yao with a smile, “How could I forget you so quickly…”
Huo Yao immediately understood that Nan Pei was acting, trying to bluff his way through.
So, Huo Yao continued, “Right, you gave me so much money, hard to forget.” His tone carried a hint of mockery.
Nan Pei’s mind buzzed, almost losing his balance, but luckily he was facing away from Duan Heng, avoiding exposure.
He quickly controlled his expression.
“Xiao Duan, this is President Wang from the company next door, we have many business dealings,” Nan Pei turned and calmly explained, “I’ll chat with him for a bit, you go ahead.”
Duan Heng looked at Nan Pei skeptically, thinking, does Nan Pei not even remember what his business partners look like?
But he couldn’t think of a better explanation. After a moment, he nodded slightly and said to Nan Pei, “I’ll head to the car then.”
As Duan Heng walked away, Nan Pei watched his back nervously.
Just then, the “college student” leaned in and whispered, “Your acting is impressive. When did I become your neighbor Wang?”
Startled, Nan Pei quickly turned and covered the “college student’s” mouth.
“Are you crazy?” Nan Pei glared, whispering, “Don’t you have any professional ethics? How can you spill a client’s privacy?”
The “college student” said nothing.
Nan Pei, still covering his mouth, asked, “Say something, are you feeling guilty?”
The “college student” glanced at his covered mouth, looking at Nan Pei like he was an idiot.
Only then did Nan Pei realize how close they were, close enough to see each other’s eyes and count each other’s thick eyelashes.
His palm was pressed against the cool lips, the lower part touching the stubble on the chin, slightly pricking his fingers.
The “college student’s” breath fell on the back of his hand.
Nan Pei felt like his hand was burning and quickly pulled it back.
But even after pulling away, the warmth of those lips lingered in his palm.
Unconsciously, Nan Pei clenched his fingers, then relaxed them.
The “college student” remained calm, merely glancing at his hand, and said, “I didn’t expose you, but you’re acting all nervous.”
“I thought…” Nan Pei swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbing, “I thought you were going to spill what you saw that day. Didn’t you say I changed more than just clothes?”
“Oh, I meant you changed your hairstyle too,” the “college student” said sincerely, looking him over, “Looks much better, not like a little nouveau riche anymore.”
Nan Pei was taken aback, “Is that what you meant?”
“What else could it mean?” The “college student” raised an eyebrow, his tone playful.
Nan Pei felt like he was being toyed with.
“Just keep quiet, don’t spread it around,” Nan Pei said seriously, looking at his handsome face, “I won’t mention your hosting job either.”
The “college student” chuckled softly, “Thanks, little nouveau riche.”
Nan Pei couldn’t tell if the laugh was mocking or something else.
“Are you here for a check-up?” Nan Pei looked him over, muttering, “Your clothes look expensive today.”
“Accompanying someone,” the “college student” thought for a moment and said honestly, “Actually, this outfit is…” a pre-sale from a major international brand, hardly anyone in the world could buy it yet.
Nan Pei comforted, “You worked hard to buy a high-quality replica, right? I understand.”
Working-class Huo Yao: “…”
Nan Pei patted his shoulder, “You didn’t spill my secret today, I appreciate it. If you ever need help, come to me.”
Huo Yao smirked, “So you want my contact info?”
“Ah…” Nan Pei seemed to understand, “Oh right, in your line of work, you can’t contact clients on your own, right? I get it. Next time I visit the club, I’ll ask the manager to give you a raise.”
With that, Nan Pei remembered Duan Heng was waiting and said to Huo Yao, “I have to go, see you, Xiao Wang.”
Huo Yao: “…”
How did he become Xiao Wang?
Did this guy start believing his own act?
Watching Nan Pei leave, Huo Yao didn’t know what to say.
Even after handling Cheng Man’s paperwork and sitting in the VIP room, he couldn’t stop thinking about what happened.
“High-quality replica?” Huo Yao glanced at his clothes, laughing in disbelief, “What kind of eyes does he have?”
After her IV, Cheng Man recovered quickly.
Sitting on the hospital bed, working on her laptop, she looked up at Huo Yao’s voice and was stunned.
President Huo… laughing at his own clothes?
What’s so funny?
“President Huo, you…” Cheng Man hesitated, “What’s going on?”
Huo Yao composed himself, taking a sip of water, “Nothing, just found someone interesting.”
Thinking about not exchanging contact info, Huo Yao felt a bit down.
Just then, Cheng Man said, “President Huo, Xingyao Entertainment has decided to invest in ‘Love Meteor Shower.’ Since filming is about to start, we need to follow up quickly, and we’re planning to promote a new actor…”
“I know, just rest for now,” Huo Yao nodded, “Don’t work while you’re sick.”
“Since you value it, I have to handle it well,” Cheng Man replied, “Oh, and about the investors for ‘Love Meteor Shower,’ I found there’s only one, and…”
Huo Yao paused, waiting for her to continue.
“Coincidentally, the investor is the young master of the Nan Family,” Cheng Man continued, “Nan Pei.”
Huo Yao was slightly surprised, “The Nan Family’s young master?”
At the club, many called the little nouveau riche “Nan Ge,” but he thought it was just part of his name, not his surname.
And he was the Nan Family’s young master.
“Yes, it’s him,” Cheng Man stopped typing, looking at President Huo, “He’s the one who called a few days ago asking if your house was for sale.”
Huo Yao fell silent.
The person wanting to buy his house…
Was him?
Seeing Huo Yao’s silence, Cheng Man hesitated, “President Huo, is there a problem?”
Huo Yao half-smiled, his tone light, “So he wants to live in my house.”
Cheng Man was surprised, “What?”
“I’ve changed my mind,” Huo Yao crossed his legs, a hint of interest in his eyes, “If he wants to live there, it’s not impossible.”
Cheng Man was shocked, looking at Huo Yao, “You’ve changed your mind? Should I tell him now?”
“No need,” Huo Yao said calmly, “I want him to come to me.”
His tone suggested he was in a very good mood.
