Even If You Die in Front of Me, I Won’t Look at You
Song Jingchen stared at the thermometer for a few seconds, finally believing that Nan Pei really had a fever.
However, this didn’t mean he felt sorry for Nan Pei.
He put down the thermometer, looked at Nan Pei, and said indifferently, “You chose to go into the water yourself. I didn’t force you.”
Nan Pei was slightly taken aback, not expecting Song Jingchen to say that.
His eyes became a bit moist, and he spoke with suppressed grievance, “Jingchen Gege, I didn’t mean to blame you. Thank you for coming to see me…”
Song Jingchen looked at Nan Pei’s pale and frail face, paused for a few seconds, and cruelly said:
“If it weren’t for your parents forcing me, how could I possibly come to see you? Stop being so self-indulgent.”
Nan Pei’s body trembled, and it took a lot of effort to hold back his tears.
“Jingchen Gege, I just wanted to see you.” He looked at Song Jingchen, trying to control his emotions, but his voice grew softer, “If you didn’t like the roses yesterday, I can give you something else next time…”
The boy’s voice was a bit hoarse, clearly very sad, yet still trying to please Song Jingchen.
The humiliation from Song Jingchen yesterday and the distrust just now didn’t matter to him; he just wanted the person he liked to look at him.
In the morning light, he lowered his eyes, his delicate features as humble as the dust floating in the light.
Song Jingchen was supposed to mock Nan Pei’s words, but for some reason, he looked at Nan Pei’s face and momentarily lost focus.
At this moment, Nan Pei pulled out the black-gold credit card from under his pillow, trembling as he handed it to Song Jingchen: “Jingchen Gege, the flowers from yesterday are ruined, but this card is still here, representing my birthday wishes for you…”
Song Jingchen frowned, “I said, I don’t need money.”
“Jingchen Gege, just take it.” Nan Pei coughed lightly a few times, his eyes slightly red, looking pitiful as he said, “Even if you don’t use the money, just keep the card. The password is your birthday.”
“Nan Pei, do you think using money will make me like you?” Song Jingchen felt Nan Pei’s actions were more outrageous than usual, at least before he wouldn’t blatantly give money, “Did you burn your brain?”
Just then, Nan Pei’s parents, who had been eavesdropping outside, couldn’t hold back their anger and burst in.
“Song Jingchen, I called you here to apologize,” Nan Chengshuo said sternly, “not to bully Peipei.”
Li Ya also looked at Song Jingchen with an unfriendly expression.
Seeing the Nan family parents present, Song Jingchen suppressed his emotions.
He looked at Nan Pei, remained silent for a long time, and finally said in a deep voice:
“Yesterday’s incident… was my fault.”
In the original story, Song Jingchen’s company wasn’t strong initially, often having to listen to the Nan family, which made him resentful, believing it was all Nan Pei’s scheme.
When the main character shou appeared, Song Jingchen’s company had become an industry leader. After breaking free from the Nan family’s control, the first thing he did was suppress the Nan family and completely sever ties with Nan Pei.
Of course, now Song Jingchen’s luck was insufficient, and he needed Nan Pei’s help to succeed.
At this moment, Nan Pei could already see a hint of suppressed hatred in Song Jingchen’s eyes.
“Peipei gave you a black-gold credit card as a birthday gift, and this is your attitude?” Li Ya rolled her eyes, displeased, “If it were someone else, they’d be laughing in their dreams, okay?”
Song Jingchen took a deep breath.
He looked at the credit card, swallowed, and his fingers slowly tightened and then relaxed.
A few seconds later, he reluctantly reached out, took the credit card, and put it in his pocket, saying to Nan Pei:
“Thank you.”
Hearing this, Nan Pei showed a happy smile.
Although his face was pale, the smile added a touch of brightness to him.
Clearly, he was the one giving, but seeing Song Jingchen accept the gift, he smiled happier than anyone else.
His parents looked at Nan Pei with a bit of disappointment, while Song Jingchen was momentarily stunned.
Even though Nan Pei’s demeanor was no different from before, Song Jingchen felt he had changed.
Staring at Nan Pei for a moment, Song Jingchen finally realized—
Nan Pei seemed to love him even more.
Nan Chengshuo saw that Song Jingchen was at least respectful, and although displeased, he didn’t want to make things too ugly, giving him a way out: “You’ve accepted the gift, as long as you sincerely take care of Peipei, this matter will be over.”
This was undoubtedly a humiliation for Song Jingchen.
Song Jingchen pressed his lips tightly, his handsome face expressionless, just coldly looking at Nan Pei.
The plot so far was very much in line with the original, and Nan Pei successfully handed the credit card to Song Jingchen.
Suddenly, Nan Pei’s stomach growled.
He had been busy pretending to be sick all morning and hadn’t eaten breakfast, just to create a sickly illusion, and now he was starving.
Song Jingchen frowned, and Li Ya told the servant at the door, “Go downstairs and bring up a bowl of hot lean meat porridge.”
The servant quickly brought up the porridge.
Song Jingchen glanced at the porridge, and after a moment, he suppressed all kinds of emotions in his heart and calmly said to Nan Pei:
“I’ll feed you.”
His annoyance with Nan Pei and hatred for the Nan family were well hidden at this moment, and this gesture was just to give Nan Chengshuo and Li Ya an explanation.
In the original book, Song Jingchen only peeled an apple, but now he chose to feed porridge.
It wasn’t considered deviating from the plot.
“Really? Jingchen Gege, you’re so nice.” Nan Pei looked at Song Jingchen with eyes full of surprise and expectation, unable to hide his anticipation.
Seeing their son looking so infatuated, Nan Pei’s parents were a bit helpless but still chose to leave them some space alone, so they exited the room.
The door closed.
Song Jingchen, with a cold face, sat by the bed, picked up the bowl of porridge, and lifted his eyes to look at Nan Pei, who was blushing and staring at him with anticipation.
Song Jingchen suppressed his inner displeasure, his fingers pausing for a long time before using a spoon to scoop up some porridge and awkwardly bringing it to Nan Pei.
Nan Pei looked at the hand in front of him, the arm muscles tense, the veins on the back of the hand bulging from exertion.
It was clear that Song Jingchen was using a lot of effort to control his disgust.
“Thank you, Jingchen Gege.”
Nan Pei’s tone was soft, his sickly face as pale as paper, but his eyes were as bright as stars in the night sky.
His heart and eyes were full of Song Jingchen, as if this wasn’t feeding porridge but handing him the most precious diamond in the world.
In the sunlight, Song Jingchen’s gaze lingered on Nan Pei’s face for a few seconds, his arm muscles relaxing a bit.
He thought to himself, Nan Pei really did love him more.
Although Song Jingchen knew he would surely be troubled by this in the future, for someone as charming as him, it was inevitable that Nan Pei would fall deeper.
“Hurry up and eat.” Song Jingchen saw Nan Pei staring at him with a silly smile, frowned, and brought the spoon to his lips, “Don’t waste time.”
Nan Pei nodded, obediently taking a sip of the lean meat porridge, savoring it slowly, his expression full of enjoyment.
He was genuinely hungry, and the porridge was genuinely delicious.
Song Jingchen fed Nan Pei a few more spoonfuls, but his movements gradually slowed down.
Immersed in the delicious porridge, Nan Pei didn’t notice that the man feeding him was staring at his lips.
Song Jingchen stared intently at Nan Pei’s lips as they moved.
Halfway through the porridge, Nan Pei felt the intense gaze.
He paused, only to see Song Jingchen staring at his lips, his expression unreadable.
Feeling uncomfortable under the scrutiny, Nan Pei subconsciously licked his lips and asked the system in confusion, “System, is there something dirty on my mouth?”
The system remained silent.
Nan Pei asked in a panic, “Why aren’t you saying anything? Is there something wrong with this scene? Should I not have drunk this porridge?”
The system finally spoke, “We seem to have forgotten something.”
Nan Pei was puzzled, “What is it?”
System: “You put powder on your lips.”
Nan Pei: “…”
System: “And now it’s gone.”
Nan Pei: “…………”
After a while, he finally asked with difficulty, “When did it come off?”
System: “When you took the first sip of porridge.”
Nan Pei glanced at Song Jingchen’s icy gaze and fell into deep thought: Is this plot going off the rails?
“I didn’t know your lean meat porridge was medicinal.” Song Jingchen looked at Nan Pei, suddenly sneering, his words filled with suppressed anger, “Your complexion improved immediately.”
Not only was Song Jingchen forced by the Nan family, but he was also played by Nan Pei, and for a moment, his disgust for Nan Pei reached its peak.
He recalled how he had believed in Nan Pei’s illness earlier and couldn’t help but curse, “Nan Pei, you’re not feverish, you’re brain-sick!”
After saying this, Song Jingchen placed the bowl heavily on the bedside table and got up to leave.
Nan Pei hurriedly sat up, grabbing the corner of Song Jingchen’s suit, “Jingchen Gege, I was wrong, please listen to my explanation…”
Unfortunately, this wasn’t a film set, and Nan Pei had no chance for a retake.
Song Jingchen, furious, shook off Nan Pei’s hand forcefully, “What else is there to explain?!”
After shaking off Nan Pei’s hand, Song Jingchen realized he was holding something.
He looked down to see an IV needle and tape stuck to his palm.
Song Jingchen’s actions paused.
The air was filled with awkward silence.
Nan Pei looked at the IV tube in Song Jingchen’s hand, unsure of what to explain, so he coughed twice to cover his embarrassment and said softly, “…Don’t worry.”
Song Jingchen turned back to look at him, his expression dark.
“The needle wasn’t unsealed, it won’t hurt you.” Nan Pei tried to salvage the situation a bit.
Song Jingchen’s face was as cold as an Antarctic ice lake.
He threw the IV tube to the ground harshly, leaving with one last sentence:
“Nan Pei, even if you die in front of me, I won’t look at you!”
After saying this, Song Jingchen left the Nan family without looking back.
Nan Pei stared blankly at his retreating figure, incredulously asking the system, “Did you hear what he just said?”
“I heard it, he said he wouldn’t look at you even if you died.” The system calmly replied.
“That line was in the original plot.” Nan Pei said in surprise, “So I succeeded this time?”
The system answered seriously, “The credit card has been given, and the fake illness scene is complete. So the task is successful.”
As the system’s words fell, Nan Pei saw that Song Jingchen’s career line had reached 3%.
Nan Pei’s smile almost reached his ears, “I’m such a genius.”
At this moment, Nan Chengshuo and Li Ya rushed over, both asking if Song Jingchen had bullied Nan Pei again.
“Jingchen Gege is very nice,” Nan Pei immediately put away his smile, entering a melancholic state, his eyes red, “I’m the one who’s not worthy of him…”
The system wondered if it was seeing things, how could someone change their expression so quickly?
Nan Chengshuo and Li Ya were disappointed.
“I’ve told you before, that kid is no good, can’t you stop being obsessed with him?”
“There are so many noble sons and rich heirs in Lujin City, can’t you look at someone else? Why do you keep giving him money?”
While the Nan family parents were earnestly advising Nan Pei, on the other side, Song Jingchen sat in his car, taking a deep breath, closing his eyes to suppress the anger surging in his chest.
In fact, after seeing the number on the thermometer, looking at Nan Pei’s delicate and pale face, he had a momentary illusion: this boy in front of him seemed to really need his care.
“Nan Pei…” Song Jingchen gritted his teeth, saying irritably, “I must be out of my mind to think this guy would learn his lesson.”
Nan Pei wasn’t doing this for the first time, but this time it was the most infuriating for Song Jingchen.
Or it could be said, this was Nan Pei’s best “acting” yet, so natural and flawless that it made Song Jingchen lower his guard.
The previous Nan Pei definitely didn’t have such emotional intelligence and acting skills.
Song Jingchen didn’t have time to ponder Nan Pei’s changes.
He was so angry that he even forgot to return the credit card to Nan Pei.
His mind was filled with thoughts of how to make the Nan family pay a heavy price in the future.
After suppressing his anger, Song Jingchen started the sports car, ready to leave the Nan family villa that annoyed him.
Just then, he saw through the rearview mirror that Nan Pei, having changed clothes, was running out of the villa with an anxious expression.
This was within Song Jingchen’s expectations.
In the past, whenever Nan Pei did something wrong, he would anxiously apologize to Song Jingchen, afraid of being ignored.
However, Song Jingchen had already made up his mind that even if Nan Pei knelt before him this time, he wouldn’t forgive him.
Song Jingchen stepped on the gas and left directly.
He glanced at the rearview mirror, and sure enough, saw Nan Pei running a few steps but unable to catch up, his figure growing smaller in the mirror.
Seeing Nan Pei’s regretful look, Song Jingchen curled his lips into a cold smile, feeling a bit more satisfied.
He guessed Nan Pei would catch up.
Half a minute later.
A silver-gray luxury sports car appeared in the rearview mirror.
Song Jingchen recognized the car as Nan Pei’s, his guess was entirely correct.
He thought, Nan Pei must be panicking now, using such a good car to chase after him.
Song Jingchen’s eyes flashed with mockery, sneering as he increased his speed, wanting to make Nan Pei even more embarrassed.
However, Nan Pei’s car’s performance was simply crushing Song Jingchen’s car, and it didn’t take long for him to catch up effortlessly.
Song Jingchen frowned, preparing to pull over and tell Nan Pei to stop bothering him, while also enjoying his helpless, tearful appearance.
But when Song Jingchen slowed down.
Nan Pei’s car overtook his without any intention of slowing down, leaving only exhaust fumes behind.
Song Jingchen was stunned, his hand on the door froze, and the next second, his face turned ashen.
In the silver-gray sports car, Nan Pei saw the familiar car by the roadside and asked the system in confusion, “That car looks like Song Jingchen’s, why did he stop halfway?”
“Maybe he’s waiting for you to apologize.” The system guessed.
“He already took the credit card, what else do I need to apologize for?” Nan Pei glanced at the red sports car in the rearview mirror, saying indifferently, “Besides, I’m in a hurry to get to the next film crew, I don’t have time for him.”
Just ten minutes ago, Nan Pei had just finished playing the overbearing CEO novel role when the system suddenly reminded him that the exclamation mark for the e-sports novel had turned red.
This indicated that the e-sports novel’s main character’s career needed Nan Pei’s help.
So Nan Pei hurriedly changed clothes, rushed out, and went to the garage to pick the best car to drive out.
Now, he was on his way to meet the second main character.
