The children, still smiling, stopped talking. Instead, they approached Ji Chenai, carefully righted his wheelchair, and gently helped him back into it. Throughout the process, none of them spoke; they remained silent, their smiles unwavering.
Once they had finished, the children bowed to Ji Chenai and hurried away.
Now, the once-bustling street was deserted except for Ji Chenai and a small girl who had been barely noticeable among the group.
The girl looked at Ji Chenai with a mixture of surprise and fear. Clearly, she didn’t understand why the previously unruly boys had suddenly changed their behavior.
Ji Chenai asked, “Why isn’t she affected?”
Xiao Qi replied, “Only those who harbor malice toward you are punished. She doesn’t have any ill will, so she isn’t affected by the punishment.”
Before Ji Chenai could ask anything further, the little girl let out a terrified scream and ran away. She stumbled and fell on the flat ground, then scrambled up in a panic and continued to flee, her fear evident in her frantic, erratic movements.
Ji Chenai asked, “What will happen to those kids?”
Xiao Qi huffed, “They will be filled with love for the world.”
Hearing Xiao Qi’s response, Ji Chenai couldn’t help but smile. It was a rare, radiant smile, almost as bright as those of the children from earlier. He thought to himself that calling Xiao Qi a “Positive Energy System” was far less fitting than calling it a “Negative Energy System.”
“Well, let’s head home,” Ji Chenai said.
His injuries were quite visible, and he had planned to take care of them once he got home. But when he arrived, he found that Zhou Yaoyun was already back.
As he opened the door, he saw Zhou Yaoyun sitting in the living room, smiling contentedly as he watched TV.
When Zhou Yaoyun saw Ji Chenai return, he immediately stood up and walked over. The scrapes on Ji Chenai’s arms were visible through his short sleeves.
Her expression changed instantly. “Brother, what happened to your arms?”
“It’s nothing. I just fell and got a bit hurt,” Ji Chenai replied.
Zhou Yaoyun pressed his lips together, not saying anything. He turned and went into the bedroom, returning with saline solution and cotton swabs.
Ji Chenai’s arms were covered in abrasions, and against his pale skin, they looked even more severe. Zhou Yaoyun knelt beside him, silently tending to his wounds with a focused and gentle demeanor.
Ji Chenai sensed Zhou Yaoyun’s anger but didn’t know how to comfort him, making the atmosphere between them somewhat tense. When Zhou Yaoyun finished treating his wounds, Ji Chenai finally said. “I’ll take you to get a tetanus shot tomorrow.”
