Chapter 32: I Like Yan Man
The night was deep, and the three of them had been at “Lu Yuan” for several hours.
He Cheng didn’t want to go home. Since Luo Xi mentioned divorce in the morning, he hadn’t given her a clear response yet.
He was afraid to face Luo Xi.
He didn’t want a divorce.
Tan Qishen and Jiang Linjin were considerate enough to stay with him until late at night.
It wasn’t until they couldn’t drink anymore.
In front of them was a pile of empty bottles, with Tan Qishen having the most bottles in front of him.
Tan Qishen never used to get drunk when drinking. His alcohol tolerance was quite good, but he didn’t know where his limit was. At drinking events, he was always the one being toasted, and he could choose whether or not to drink, and how much. He had never been drunk before.
But now, he felt drunk.
The alcohol spread from his throat to his stomach, a burning sensation, uncomfortable in waves.
Tan Qishen placed the last empty bottle on the table. When he got up, he staggered, holding onto the bar to steady himself.
His eyes were red from the alcohol, and his eyes had several bloodshot veins, yet he appeared very clear-headed, with deep, calculating eyes.
Jiang Linjin, who was next to him, supported him a bit, but Tan Qishen immediately pushed him away.
He snorted, looking at Tan Qishen, who could barely stand, and chose not to argue, though he was puzzled as to why Tan Qishen was drinking more than the two people who were actually down on their luck.
Jiang Linjin casually suggested, “Should we have Yan Man come pick you up?”
Tan Qishen suddenly looked up, his cold, sharp gaze fixed on Jiang Linjin, as though it could cut him.
“Why are you staring at me?”
Jiang Linjin, already sluggish from drinking, only reacted a moment later. He slapped his thigh and said, “Could it be that you and Yan Man had another fight?”
Tan Qishen leaned back on the sofa, his hands crossed on his lap, his eyes closing.
He didn’t respond, and Jiang Linjin immediately knew he had guessed correctly.
“Didn’t we talk about this last time? What did I tell you? Have you forgotten?”
Jiang Linjin looked at him in frustration. He had spent so much time trying to persuade him to stop being difficult and to treat Yan Man better. It had barely been half a month, and now he was back to being stubborn again.
“What’s this time about?”
Jiang Linjin asked, feeling a bit of déjà vu, as if he’d already asked this dozens of times.
Tan Qishen kept his eyes closed, his brows furrowed, and his face darkened, giving off a strong sense of distance.
Jiang Linjin, more anxious than him, maybe because he was also having relationship issues, didn’t want to see his friend so down.
Tan Qishen didn’t answer, so Jiang Linjin took the initiative to guess. “Did she reply late to your message?”
“Is she too busy with work to spend time with you?”
“Did she cooperate with some male celebrity and you got jealous?”
“…”
Jiang Linjin searched his mind for all the reasons Tan Qishen and Yan Man had fought recently. He came up with nothing, and casually added, “Did you cheat?”
Upon hearing the word “cheat,” Tan Qishen immediately tightened his grip on the glass, his gaze turning cold and fierce, like a beast ready to pounce.
“Shut up.”
He Cheng, hearing this, kicked Jiang Linjin and cursed, “Is that all you think about—cheating or betrayal?”
“It’s her cheating,” Tan Qishen’s voice was low, rough, and overlapped with He Cheng’s voice.
“Huh?”
Both He Cheng and Jiang Linjin were shocked and confused, looking at him.
“Are you kidding?”
“Are you out of your mind?”
“You’re drunk, talking nonsense.”
“She can’t cheat on me.”
Tan Qishen’s voice was calm, but there was no hesitation in his words.
Would she?
Would she really cheat on him?
He couldn’t understand it.
He Cheng, rubbing his forehead, said, “You guys are guessing blindly. You should just ask Yan Man directly.”
Tan Qishen’s situation was much better than He Cheng’s. His wife actually wanted a divorce, but whether Yan Man cheated or not was still unclear.
He Cheng didn’t care for Tan Qishen’s objections and directly called for South Uncle to come in.
“Take Young Master Tan to find Yan Man now and clear things up.”
Poor South Uncle, much older, was still waiting outside in the middle of the night. These past few days, Tan Qishen’s emotions had been off, and that’s why he had been there.
A few days ago, he heard about the situation and had people investigate Yan Man’s relationship with Fang Hexun.
But they found nothing. It was completely blank.
With the Tan family’s connections, they could trace every branch and side branch of their family tree.
So the fact that there was nothing found was the most suspicious part.
“Okay.” South Uncle nodded, he had wanted to do this for a while but hadn’t dared to act without Tan Qishen’s order.
“Wait—”
Tan Qishen stopped him.
“Wait for what? If you don’t ask now, you’ll miss your chance.”
Jiang Linjin was more anxious than Tan Qishen.
“Yan Man must already be resting by now. We’ll go tomorrow.”
“…”
