Chapter 21 Ye Wuyou Wants to Kill Someone
“Little Aunt, I’ve already made myself clear. I married her because I had no choice, but now that she’s my wife, how can I just send her back? Aren’t you afraid she might go to the police and accuse me of being a hooligan? Besides, we’ve already registered our marriage—she’s on the same household register as me now. When my father was alive, he taught us to live upright and honorable. There’s no way I would ever abandon my wife.”
He paused then, his eyes filled with disappointment as he looked at Ling Xiaohui.
“Little Aunt, are you saying you want me to become the kind of heartless man who abandons his wife?”
“I—” Ling Xiaohui was left speechless. Was that what she meant? Did she really want Ling Yu to abandon his wife? She only wanted him to send that little tramp back, reclaim the 200 yuan, and then marry her in-law’s niece. Hadn’t Ling Yu always listened to her before? Why was today different?
Then she thought of something serious: she had been beaten today. There was no way she could let that go, even if it meant falling out with Ling Yu. She had to vent her anger. So she played the rogue and said,
“Anyway, I don’t care. Your wife beat me today—what are you going to do about it? If you can’t satisfy me, I’ll spread the word. I’m still an elder in this family, and she dared to hit me. Let’s see what happens to her reputation then.”
Ling Yu felt helpless. It was true that Ye Wuyou had hit his little aunt.
“Then what does Little Aunt want? But let’s be clear—abandoning my wife is not an option.” He set down his condition first, hoping she’d back off.
Hearing this, Ling Xiaohui’s eyes shifted. She now understood that Ling Yu would never send the woman back or retrieve the 200 yuan. Still, she didn’t believe her nephew would hand over all his money so easily. Ling Yu had always been clever, not someone easily manipulated. She was sure he still had money on him. Since that was the case, she would squeeze some “interest” out of him for being beaten today. As for Ye Wuyou, there would be plenty of opportunities to deal with her later.
“You said it yourself—she’s your wife. But she’s beaten me so badly I hurt all over. You can’t just ignore that. How about this—we’re all family, so why don’t you give me a bit of money for medical expenses? I’ll go to the hospital myself.”
Ling Yu had known all along—his little aunt was only here today for money. Just as he expected.
“My wife did beat you, so I should give you some compensation. But, Little Aunt, how much do you think is appropriate?”
Ling Xiaohui thought she had a chance and said after some consideration,
“Give me 50 yuan. My stomach and chest hurt badly, and I need to get checked out. Whatever’s left can be considered emotional damages. After all, you know that if word gets out that your wife hit her elder, it’ll ruin her reputation.”
She dared to ask so much because she was sure—if Ling Yu could pay 200 yuan to “buy” Ye Wuyou, then 50 yuan was nothing. This was not only for the hospital but also hush money. Surely her nephew wouldn’t let his wife become notorious.
Inside her room, Ye Wuyou had been listening all along. When she heard Ling Xiaohui demand 50 yuan outright, she sneered. So much money, and she wasn’t afraid she’d choke on it? Strangely, whether from anger or something else, her injured hand suddenly felt much better. She flexed her fingers, then walked straight to the woodshed, grabbed a hatchet, and strode outside.
Seeing Ye Wuyou’s fierce appearance, Ling Xiaohui jumped in fright.
“You, you, you—what are you doing? I’m telling you, killing is against the law! And I’m still your elder—you better not do anything rash~~”
She spoke while hiding behind Ling Yu, terrified that this lunatic would swing the hatchet at her the next second.
“Hmph. Didn’t you want money? Let me tell you, today you’ll get nothing. Didn’t you say I hit you? Fine—how about I give you my life as compensation? Do you even dare take it?”
Ye Wuyou had already been irritated over the 200 yuan debt to Ling Yu. Now this woman wanted another 50 yuan by threatening her reputation? She must be dreaming.
“Wh-why would I want your life? You hit me, so what’s wrong with me asking for some compensation?”
Her voice lacked conviction. After a few sentences, she ducked behind Ling Yu again. Seeing her nephew unmoved, she grew angrier.
“Ling Yu, are you dead or what? Can’t you see your little aunt being threatened like this? Aren’t you going to stop your wife? What, are you just going to let her kill me?”
But Ling Yu was secretly enjoying the scene.
“Little Aunt, ever since I married my wife, she runs the household. I don’t have a say. Maybe it’s best if you don’t provoke her anymore.”
“Pah! Ling Yu, what kind of man are you? You’re a soldier, yet you’re afraid of your wife? Don’t you have any shame? If people hear about this, what will they think of our Ling family?”
Ye Wuyou had lost all patience. Seeing Ling Xiaohui still rambling, she slammed the hatchet into the doorframe with a sharp crack and said coldly,
“So, you’re Little Aunt? Do you still want money? If you do, I’ll give you this head of mine. If not, then get lost. I’m in no mood. I’ve got this bad habit—when I’m extremely upset, I can’t control myself. If I really hurt you, that won’t be my problem.”
The hatchet was sharp, and she had swung with force. It lodged deeply into the wood.
Ling Xiaohui was utterly terrified. She could see clearly—this Ye Wuyou really was a madwoman. The murderous look in her eyes seemed to say she truly didn’t care about anything, not even killing. Ling Xiaohui, who valued her life above all, finally realized she couldn’t keep pushing. Who knew if this lunatic might really strike?
And this house was on the mountain. If they killed her and dumped her body in the woods, no one would ever know.
