Chapter 4: Space Beast – Youyou
After Ye Wuyou finished wailing in her heart, she started digging through the original host’s memories. In the end, she summed up the girl’s entire life with one word: tragic. Truly, what else could it be?
Heaven must have gotten sick of her always relying on her superior strength to rob others. Finally, it decided enough was enough—sent a timed bomb to take her out. And not only that, it even stuck her in this shriveled little body as punishment.
“Are you alright?” A deep, magnetic male voice suddenly sounded.
Only then did Ye Wuyou remember there was another person in the room. She lifted her head to look at him. Wasn’t this the retired soldier who had saved the original host?
That straight nose, those deep eyes, thick brows, strong build… and those solid arms probably carried great strength. This was a real-life handsome man! If it had been in her previous life, she definitely would’ve gone up and flirted with him a little. But now? Forget it. She was afraid acting seductive in this body would just make him puke.
Ling Yu had been observing her the whole time. In her eyes he caught flashes of anger, then regret, then admiration—and even a hint of excitement when looking at him. He had no idea what was going through her head.
Soon, Ling Yu left and came back with another bowl of medicine. He handed it to her and said:
“Drink this. Your whole body’s covered in wounds—this will help you heal faster.”
Ye Wuyou stared at the pitch-black concoction, its nauseating smell making her grimace. She asked, a little hesitant:
“Can I not drink it?”
“No.” Ling Yu refused outright.
She pouted, about to reach for the bowl, but then noticed her hands were wrapped in bandages. Just as she was about to say something, Ling Yu lifted the bowl directly to her lips, signaling her to drink.
Grinding her teeth, Ye Wuyou thought: Fine. Worst case, eighteen years later I’ll be a hero again.
Then she took a deep breath and downed the vile medicine like it was a cup of execution wine.
When she finished, Ling Yu placed a candied fruit in her mouth and carried the bowl out. Watching him leave, Ye Wuyou thought to herself that this man was actually pretty thoughtful.
After that, she tried to activate her wood-element power to heal the wound on her forehead. But to her shock, nothing happened. In her previous life she had cultivated her powers to level 8—yet now she was back to level 0.
Her eyes widened. Her entire reputation as a bandit had been built on her strong abilities. And now? Apart from sensing that her elemental roots still existed, she had nothing. The words that summed it all up: start over again.
She was a wielder of wood, fire, water, lightning, and space abilities! Reaching level 8 last time had taken countless resources she had plundered and a huge dose of luck. To get there again now? She might as well be dreaming.
“You just stay home and rest. I’m going to work. Tomorrow I’ll take leave and bring you to the county to check your head injury,” Ling Yu said from the doorway.
“Mm,” Ye Wuyou answered casually.
After he left, she released her spiritual sense to check her current condition. From five kilometers in her past life, it had now shrunk to only 500 meters. The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.
Damn Heaven is just playing with me!
She had lost her proud, enviable figure, her powerful abilities had reset to zero. The only comfort was that she still had her space—and all the supplies she’d hoarded in her past life.
Fine. Then I’ll just lay low for now. Train my abilities back up first.
Her spiritual sense swept over her space, and she suddenly spotted a familiar figure: Yoyo, her space beast, lazily sprawled in the corner asleep.
This creature was as shameless as she was. Its former master had been injured saving it, but the beast had dismissed its savior as too weak and unworthy of owning a space beast with infinite storage. In the end, when Ye Wuyou looted that master’s supplies, Yoyo had crawled out on its own and declared it wanted to follow her—just because she was stronger. She, tempted by its infinite space, had agreed to the bond. As for its former master, well… they’d long since been forgotten.
Ye Wuyou summoned it out with her mind, lifted it high with her spiritual power, and slammed it onto the ground.
“Who—who the hell dares throw me!?” Yoyo’s voice rang out in her head.
Ye Wuyou was about to kick it, but quickly realized that in this weak body even her foot hurt.
“Hiss…” Yoyo turned its head to look at her.
“My god, so ugly,” it said in her mind.
“You bastard! I dare you to say that again!” Ye Wuyou glared down at it, sending her thoughts into its mind, her tone dripping with threat.
