Chapter 39: Punishing the Scumbag and the Slut!
She only remembered that the man had an incredible physique—tall and upright, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. Aside from his firm and tight muscles, there wasn’t a trace of excess fat.
But when she tried to recall his face, the image suddenly vanished. Just as she was struggling to remember, her phone rang again—it was a call from Chen Yang.
Song Qiao stared at the vibrating screen. Thinking about how he had solemnly promised to respect her made her feel incredibly foolish. And when she remembered how Xie Yanli told her about Chen Yang’s cheating, she’d actually defended that scumbag man.
The thought that she had given her true heart to someone so unworthy filled her with rage. She had trusted him so deeply, and he’d played her like a fool. The warmth in her eyes was gone now, replaced by sharpness and disgust.
She angrily answered the call, but before she could say anything, Chen Yang spoke first.
“Qiao Qiao, have you eaten yet? Aunt Bai just called me. She finalized the number of tables we’ll need for our side of the wedding. She also told me you had something very important to discuss with me. Qiao Qiao, what were you going to tell me when you called earlier?”
Hearing his voice, still gentle and warm, made Song Qiao feel sick. If she hadn’t caught him and Lin Shiyu together, she might never have seen through his hypocritical facade.
“Qiao Qiao, why aren’t you saying anything? Are you feeling unwell?” Chen Yang’s concerned voice came again.
Right now, Song Qiao wasn’t thinking clearly. She only wanted to confront him—why did he betray their relationship? She wanted to know when exactly he started sneaking around with Lin Shiyu behind her back.
“Chen Yang, you—”
“Qiao Qiao, I went to Zhou Ji and bought your favorite three-flavor dumplings. Wash up and come downstairs to eat.”
Before she could finish, Bai Shuyu walked in cheerfully to call her down for dinner.
Seeing Bai Shuyu, the words Song Qiao wanted to say were cut off. She couldn’t say it in front of her. To avoid worrying her, she softened her expression.
Bai Shuyu noticed she was on the phone and walked over. “Qiao Qiao, are you talking to Chen Yang? You two have plenty of time to chat, but if you don’t eat dumplings now, they’ll get soggy. Go downstairs and eat first.”
Song Qiao nodded and casually said into the phone, “My mom’s calling me to dinner. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Okay, Qiao Qiao, don’t forget to—”
Before Chen Yang could finish, Song Qiao coldly hung up.
Bai Shuyu was caught up in the joy of her double blessings and didn’t notice the change in Song Qiao’s expression.
Once they sat at the table, Song Qiao picked at her food while Bai Shuyu sat beside her, calling relatives and friends, inviting them to the wedding.
Song Qiao had no appetite to begin with, and hearing Bai Shuyu talk about the wedding only made it worse.
Now that she knew the truth, she could never marry scum like Chen Yang. With the wedding date approaching, she couldn’t drag this out any longer.
After a long hesitation, Song Qiao looked at Bai Shuyu and cautiously said, “Mom, there’s something I need to tell you.”
Bai Shuyu was about to call the next person, but hearing the seriousness in her voice, she looked up. Song Qiao indeed didn’t look well.
She quickly put down her phone and asked with concern, “Qiao Qiao, what’s wrong? You don’t look good. What do you want to tell me?”
Song Qiao stared straight at her, mustered her courage, and said, “Mom, what I’m about to say might be hard for you to accept. But I can’t hide it anymore. I want to cancel the wedding with Chen Yang.”
“Cancel the wedding? Qiao Qiao, why?” Bai Shuyu’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“Because I… he… I just realized we’re not right for each other. So I want to call it off.”
Song Qiao didn’t dare tell her about Chen Yang’s affair, knowing that Bai Shuyu had undergone heart surgery and might not be able to handle the shock.
Even without mentioning the cheating, cancelling a wedding was still a big deal. Song Qiao looked at her with worry, afraid she’d be too upset.
But to her surprise, Bai Shuyu showed no emotional reaction. Instead, she held Song Qiao’s hand and smiled. “Qiao Qiao, you and Chen Yang have been together for so many years. If you two aren’t right for each other, who is? Did you just have a fight over the phone? I know you’re just overwhelmed by the news of the pregnancy and all those pregnancy hormones are making you emotional.”
“Mom, it’s not like that, I—”
Bai Shuyu interrupted, “Then what is it? Qiao Qiao, that’s not what you said before. Back when I opposed you two being together because of his mother, you told me you’d marry no one but him.”
She took her hand gently, speaking earnestly. “Qiao Qiao, you’re already pregnant. I’ve booked the banquet, and all our relatives and friends have been notified. How can you say you’re not getting married now? You’re about to be a mother—you can’t be childish anymore.”
Song Qiao knew that if she didn’t tell Bai Shuyu the truth, she would never agree to cancel the wedding. But if she did tell her, she was afraid it would hurt her physically.
While her mind was a mess and she didn’t know what to do, Song Zhiming came home earlier than usual.
He placed his briefcase by the entrance and walked over to them with a big smile, full of energy. “Shuyu, Qiao Qiao, guess what good news I have for you today?”
Song Qiao pursed her lips but didn’t speak. Bai Shuyu handed him a glass of warm water and said, “Knowing you, workaholic, what else could it be? Did the Lu Corporation deal go through?”
Song Zhiming downed the water in one gulp, then sat down and smiled. “Shuyu, you know me too well. That’s right. In a couple of days, we’ll be signing the contract with Lu Corporation. Chen Yang was the main driver behind this. They even specifically asked for him to sign the contract.”
He turned to Song Qiao and gave her a thumbs-up. “Qiao Qiao, you really picked a good son-in-law for us. When he gave up his future to start from the bottom at our company for you, I knew he truly cared.”
“In the past two years, I haven’t given him any special treatment, but he’s made it all on his own. Chen Yang is young, capable, and reliable. I never expected him to actually land the Lu Corporation deal.”
Just as Song Qiao was about to speak, Bai Shuyu gave Song Zhiming a look and quickly said, “Old Song, come with me—I need to talk to you.”
Seeing her serious expression, Song Zhiming knew it was something important, so he followed her to the bedroom.
Song Qiao sat dazed at the table. After some thought, she called Shen Yao. When she told her everything, Shen Yao exploded, furiously cursing out Chen Yang and Lin Shiyu.
After venting, Shen Yao said through clenched teeth, “Qiao Qiao, you can’t break up with him now. That would be letting those two scumbags off too easy. You need to make them pay.”
Song Qiao, caught in her anger and confusion, blurted out, “How do I make them pay?”
Shen Yao said clearly and firmly:
“Qiao Qiao, act like you don’t know anything for now. Go through with the wedding as planned. Then, expose their disgusting affair right there at the ceremony. Ruin them both. Make it so they can never show their faces in Jing City again.”
