Chapter 47 – That Was When His Worldview Truly Shattered

After the call ended, Lu Zeyuan stood frozen, stunned, staring at the girl in front of him with the exploded hair.

He swallowed hard.

Just moments ago, he had personally witnessed something utterly absurd—something that looked straight out of a sci-fi movie. He was so shocked he nearly dropped his phone.

After a rumble of thunder, a bolt of lightning struck the ground.

But it didn’t make sense—anyone with basic knowledge knew that you see lightning before you hear thunder.

Something was clearly off, so his eyes shifted to where the lightning had hit.

And then… he saw something shocking.

Right next to a water-sprinkling truck stood a girl, charred black by the lightning strike—yet she stood perfectly upright, completely still.

But that wasn’t even the most shocking part.

The girl casually clapped her hands together like nothing had happened.

Then—light blue-silver arcs of electricity began crackling in her palm. She raised her hand toward a certain direction and fired the electricity out.

It slithered like a silver snake through the air at an incredible speed.

BOOM! Another bolt of lightning struck in that direction.

The water from the nearby sprinkler truck continued flowing toward her feet. When the next bolt landed, her whole body twitched twice.

Now her hair had gone from frizzy to full-on smoking.

Yet despite being hit by lightning again, she didn’t even flinch. Her gaze remained locked on the point where the lightning had struck.

Two or three seconds later, the girl finally moved. She tapped the earpiece in her ear, looked up—startled—to see him.

And when their eyes met through the windshield, she rolled her eyes at him like he was being a nuisance.

Lu Zeyuan got the distinct impression that she was extremely cocky.

Without caring about her current charred appearance, Lin Xiu’er walked up and knocked on the window of his G-Class Benz.

Lu Zeyuan gulped again. His heart was practically leaping out of his throat.

He didn’t dare roll down the window—but he also feared getting zapped by the lightning in her hand.

After a moment’s hesitation, he cautiously rolled it down just a tiny crack. Nervously, he stammered:

“Y-You… what do you want? I—I swear, I didn’t see anything. Really! My eyesight’s terrible! Yeah! I’m nearsighted—like a thousand degrees! And I forgot my glasses today!”

Lin Xiu’er was speechless.

She had just been in a heated battle with a vengeful ghost and completely forgot Tu Shanju’s warning.

Just as she was about to finish things off with a lightning seal and a palm strike, a sprinkler truck rolled in from the southwest.

Perfect timing.

Apparently the driver had been so terrified by the scene that he instinctively sprayed water in her direction.

And there it was—one palm lightning, one heavenly thunder. Not only did she fry the ghost, but she got herself zapped too.

Fortunately, she’d reacted fast enough to throw a defense talisman to protect the truck driver.

Now she finally understood why Tu Shanju had warned her about a vehicle coming from the southwest.

It was simple physics: water conducts electricity.

Still, it was her fault—she’d been fooled by the ghost. It had pretended to surrender, escaped the barrier when her guard was down, and exposed her in front of both the sprinkler truck and this G-Class Benz.

Internally, Lin Xiu’er howled:
“Ahhh! Everything’s going wrong this year! I swear I’m putting on those red socks Mom bought me the moment I get home!”

Of course, none of this showed on her face. Outwardly, she was dead serious.

She pulled out her credentials and spoke rapidly:

“Hello, South City Office business. Everything you just saw is classified. Please provide your name and address. You’ll be contacted later to sign a non-disclosure agreement.”

Her phone had been fried by the lightning—likely destroyed in the battle. The NDA would have to be signed after the fact.

Worried this flaky-looking guy would treat it like a joke, she added solemnly:

“Remember—don’t speak a word of this to anyone. You wouldn’t be able to handle the consequences. You may go now.”

With that, she didn’t wait for Lu Zeyuan’s reply and turned to check on the sprinkler truck driver.

Lu Zeyuan was dumbfounded.

He understood every word individually, but together… it made no sense.

And what was that black little booklet she’d shown him?

South City Office?

Was that some new government agency?

But the things she just did—those weren’t something any normal person could do!

His head swam with questions, but he kept them all to himself. Right now, nothing was more important than getting out of here.

This whole scene was terrifying!

He had no idea that when he read the non-disclosure agreement later that evening, that would be the moment his worldview truly shattered.

Li Kai sat in the rest area, glancing over at Tu Shanju and Xie Shiyu as the latter corrected her golf stance.

Then he looked up at the sky.

He had to admit—Tu Shanju really might have something going on.

She said not to switch venues, said the storm clouds would disperse—and sure enough, just as they arrived, the clouds vanished. The sky was now so sunny it was like that earlier storm had never happened.

Li Kai had been with Xie Shiyu since he first entered the Xie Group, so he’d known about Tu Shanju for a long time.
