An Yi sat in the passenger seat, constantly glancing to the side.
Yan Chen’s profile was extremely superior, with high eyebrows, a straight nose, deep eye sockets, and long, thick eyelashes. Even with sunglasses on, they couldn’t hide the charm of his affectionate peach blossom eyes.
Moreover, Yan Chen deliberately dressed up today, with stylish hair and trendy earrings. If he used to carry a hint of aloofness, today he was just one word: wild.
Daring, unruly, full of wildness.
Just one glance and you could tell he was bad news, not someone to mess with, but you couldn’t help but look again.
An Yi remembered how his sister had teased him more than once, calling him a lovesick fool. As long as Yan Chen smiled at him, he would immediately go weak in the knees.
Although he didn’t want to admit it, it was even more than that. He could even melt his heart.
Lost in thought, Yan Chen suddenly turned his head, lowered his sunglasses, and raised an eyebrow at him.
“You’ve been staring at me the whole way, what are you thinking?”
“…Ahem,” An Yi hastily looked out the window, steadying himself, “Aren’t you having a meeting at the company today? There’s no need to send me to the hospital, it’s out of the way.”
“Canceled.” Yan Chen’s tone was casual as he waited at a red light with one hand on the steering wheel.
An Yi looked at him again.
Yan Chen casually smiled and said, “Just wanted to see your doctor friend, see how many eyebrows and legs he’s got.”
An Yi: “…”
When the light turned green, Yan Chen pushed up his sunglasses, stepped on the gas pedal, and the Porsche 911 roared and accelerated. The strong acceleration made An Yi subconsciously tighten his seatbelt.
After going to the hospital and checking on An Ya, confirming that she was fine, An Yi finally let go of the worry that had been hanging over him all night.
The little girl had always liked Yan Chen. Whenever she saw him, she had endless things to say. Taking advantage of Yan Chen’s distraction, An Yi went to the doctor’s office to find Lin Yuming.
“Just wait for me for a moment.”
Lin Yuming filled out an electronic medical record, then took out a folder from the drawer and led An Yi to the adjacent counseling room.
An Yi’s fingers were numb with nervousness.
“Is my sister not doing well? But she said the chemotherapy this time wasn’t as bad as before.”
“Xiao Ya is doing fine, don’t worry,” Lin Yuming motioned for him to sit down, then brought up the matter from last night, “Why did you block me? I couldn’t send messages or call you. I had to use the office phone to contact you.”
An Yi looked embarrassed.
Lin Yuming asked, “Did Yan Chen have something to do with it?”
He sighed and continued, “I knew it, with your personality, you wouldn’t do something like this. But didn’t you say you two weren’t together? Why does Yan Chen have the right to interfere in your affairs?”
“Because I’m willing.”
A cold, deep voice sounded at the door.
Lin Yuming looked up and unexpectedly met Yan Chen’s indifferent and arrogant gaze, his heart skipping a beat.
An Yi’s temples throbbed.
He didn’t want to turn around to see what expression Yan Chen had, he just wanted to quickly end the conversation and leave.
He asked Lin Yuming, “You said you had something to tell me last night, is this it?”
Lin Yuming withdrew his gaze, suppressed his anger, opened the folder he had brought, and pushed it in front of An Yi, “There’s news from the bone marrow registry. They found a fully matched donor.”
“What!” An Yi’s eyes widened in excitement.
“The donor volunteer has already undergone the physical examination, but it will take a few days for the results to come out. If you don’t mind, we need to start preparing on our end as well,” Lin Yuming pointed to the folder. “An Ya needs to stay in the transplant ward before and after the transplant, probably for about forty to fifty days. There are quite a few things to prepare for her admission to the ward. I’ve listed them out for your convenience, so you can mark them down and take a careful look when you get back.”
“Really?” An Yi still couldn’t believe it, his eyes turning red. “You really found a match?!”
“Really,” Lin Yuming smiled comfortingly at him. “Finding a match this quickly is a good start. There’s still a tough battle ahead, but we’ll work together.”
An Yi choked up, unable to say a complete sentence in his excitement, only nodding in response.
Completely ignoring the presence of another person at the door, Lin Yuming reached out and patted An Yi’s shoulder, softly saying, “Take a deep breath. When you go back to the ward later and tell An Ya, don’t get too excited. You are her backbone, you know?”
An Yi nodded earnestly, sincerely thanking him.
At this moment, there were two not-so-light knocks on the door behind them.
Yan Chen’s face was stern, full of impatience between his brows and eyes. Just as he was about to explode, he suddenly saw An Yi, with tears in his eyes, walking quickly towards him and embracing him tightly.
He kept repeating softly, “It’s great, it’s really great.”
His voice sounded like he was crying.
Yan Chen suppressed his anger, reaching out to embrace him, and disdainfully glanced at Lin Yuming.
Lin Yuming’s face darkened, he coughed, and then walked directly to An Yi with his phone, demanding, “Add me back on WeChat, it’ll be convenient to contact if there’s anything.”
“…”
An Yi’s face showed a hint of embarrassment again.
Just as he was about to take out his phone, his wrist was grasped by Yan Chen.
“No need,” Yan Chen’s tone was indifferent. “I’ll have the hospital assign a new attending physician for An Ya later.”
“Fine,” Lin Yuming gritted his teeth, “but I’m the contact person between the hospital and the bone marrow bank, and I’ll be the transplant doctor for An Ya after she’s admitted. It’s my responsibility.”
Yan Chen raised an eyebrow, “Do you think I can’t do it?”
“Of course you can, who doesn’t know the power and influence of the Yan family? You can easily replace a small doctor like me,” Lin Yuming sneered coldly, “But before that, as long as I’m in charge for a day, I must be able to contact the patient’s family, including contacting An Yi anytime and anywhere.”
After speaking, he handed the phone forward with a rather strong attitude.
An Yi was afraid the situation would get out of control. He hurriedly pushed and shoved Yan Chen out of the door first, then quickly added Lin Yuming back as a friend and called him, apologizing repeatedly, “I’m really sorry, he’s not usually like this, I promise it won’t affect your work, please don’t be angry.”
“It’s not a big deal for me, but it’s not worth it for you,” Lin Yuming sighed softly. “You don’t owe him anything. Why let him control you like this?”
An Yi smiled bitterly and shook his head, not saying anything as he hurried out to coax Yan Chen. After apologizing again, he finally managed to persuade the man not to hold onto the matter with Lin Yuming.
Back in the ward, An Yi told An Ya about the match, and the little girl was so excited that she burst into tears and hugged him tightly.
An Yi held her, tears falling silently from his own eyes.
Yan Chen called Jiang Hai to book a private chef and had lunch delivered directly to the ward. The three of them sat together and had a meal.
Excited as she was, after lunch, An Ya didn’t want to rest and wanted to play games with Yan Chen.
“An Ya, Yan Chen still has work to do at the company,” An Yi said. “He came specifically to see you this morning and canceled all his meetings.”
Just as An Ya pouted, she saw Yan Chen pull over a chair and sit down. “Who wants to attend meetings when there are games to play? Let’s team up.”
An Ya cheered and immediately opened the game.
Since An Yi couldn’t play, he sat aside peeling oranges and apples for the two.
Watching them immerse themselves in the game, charging into battle together and occasionally giving each other tacit high-fives, An Yi couldn’t help but feel a little dazed.
The teenager he met when he was eighteen was cold and aloof, even when he reached out to help him, he still had an indifferent attitude.
And now Yan Chen, still aloof and unapproachable, but his gentleness and patience towards An Ya were genuine and unadulterated.
It was precisely because of this precious tenderness that An Yi was willingly a hopeless moth to the flame.
In the afternoon, the weather outside turned overcast, and the light in the ward dimmed, and An Ya’s drowsiness set in.
Yan Chen promised her they would team up again when he had time, and only then did the little girl reluctantly put down her phone.
An Yi tucked her in and went outside to find Yan Chen.
The man stood in the corridor by the window, one hand in his pocket, making a phone call to delegate work.
Rationally, he should have let Yan Chen return to the company to handle the backlog of work for the day, but today he was just too happy. He wanted to be selfish for once and let Yan Chen spend a little more time with him.
“I’ll cook tonight, what would you like to eat? Let’s celebrate together.”
“What can you cook?” Yan Chen glanced at the time, draped his arm around him, and started walking out, “If we’re celebrating, let’s eat something good.”
The two of them went to a French restaurant.
During the meal, snowflakes began to fall outside the glass window, and the dazzling lights of the entire city fell into a blanket of white.
In his ears were the melodious sounds of violins and the flickering candlelight before him, as well as the person he had liked for a long time.
An Yi felt truly content.
During the meal, he had a few more drinks and planned to return home with Yan Chen after it ended to spend a romantic evening.
Yan Chen didn’t want to go back so early and took him to a nightclub to continue celebrating.
Wave after wave of strong music assaulted them, making An Yi’s heart race.
Other than a part-time job a few years ago, An Yi hadn’t been to such a place before. Dragged into the dance floor by Yan Chen, he felt awkward and uncomfortable all over.
Yan Chen took his hand and placed it on his waist, leaning close to his ear and said with a smile, “Silly, are you made of wood?”
An Yi pursed his lips awkwardly.
The colorful lights swirled around the dance floor, sweeping over Yan Chen’s handsome and charming face, and his lazy, sexy body, making An Yi’s face flush.
So he leaned closer to Yan Chen, trying awkwardly to keep up with his rhythm.
But he didn’t succeed; several times he stepped on Yan Chen’s feet.
Perhaps finding him boring, after the DJ changed the song, Yan Chen pulled him to a private booth.
Five or six people were drinking and chatting. When they saw the two of them, all their eyes fell on An Yi’s unfamiliar face.
“Yo, Young Master Yan has changed his companion again?”
One of them whistled and looked An Yi up and down lasciviously.
Yan Chen gave the man a cold glance without saying a word, then hugged An Yi and sat down in the middle of the booth.
Everyone present was from wealthy families. Rather than friends, they were more like “business partners.” Because of their similar ages and intricate business relationships, they often gathered to have fun. The Yan family was the most powerful in the circle, naturally the most sought after, and everyone had to consider his face.
Except for Qi Wenxing and Qin Muye.
The Yan and Qi families had a long-standing friendship. Qi Wenxing had been hanging out with Yan Chen since kindergarten, and their relationship was like brothers.
As for Qin Muye, he was Yan Chen’s cousin. Even if they didn’t get along temperamentally, they were still family.
Qi Wenxing leaned over with a smile, intending to sit closer to tease them, but when he saw An Yi’s features, his expression suddenly became surprised. “You… are you An Yi?!”
His tone was full of surprise, making An Yi inexplicably nervous.
An Yi hesitated and nodded, asking, “Who are you?”
“I’m Qi Wenxing. We met a few times on the rooftop during high school, remember?” Qi Wenxing was very friendly, chatting with anyone, “You haven’t changed much these years. It’s a good thing I have a good memory and recognized you right away. I didn’t expect Yan Chen to actually bring you out!”
Everyone in the circle knew that there was someone who had been with Yan Chen for five-years, but Yan Chen kept him hidden tightly, and no one had ever seen the real him.
Only a few close friends knew An Yi’s name.
“Speaking of which, me and a few buddies used to fight for you with Yan Chen. I was the one at the forefront. Do you remember me?”
An Yi smiled awkwardly.
Qi Wenxing lightly bumped his shoulder and joked, “I get it, you only have eyes for Yan Chen, you definitely can’t see the rest of us. Yan Chen, did you already have your eyes on him back then?”
Yan Chen smiled casually, “I’ve long forgotten.”
“Don’t pretend. If you hadn’t been interested in him early on, could you have cherished and kept him hidden like this, refusing to bring him out to play?” Qi Wenxing shouted to Yan Chen across An Yi, “Tell me, besides our Yi ge, who have you been with for such a long time? Forget years, have you even lasted for two months?”
Yan Chen still smiled, “Are you any better than me? All you do is talk nonsense.”
An Yi’s chest tightened, and he lowered his head.
For these young masters, changing lovers was as common as changing clothes, and they could easily use it as a joke to tease each other.
And he wouldn’t be fundamentally different from those people just because he had been sleeping with Yan Chen for a few years.
Suddenly, a glass of wine was handed to him.
Qi Wenxing enthusiastically said, “Ye ge, because of our fate in high school, let’s have a drink together.”
The glass was almost full, and without taking a breath, An Yi downed it all.
Qi Wenxing didn’t expect him to look so refined but drink so boldly, couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration, and followed suit with another glass.
Seeing this, others also came over with glasses, wanting to drink with An Yi.
An Yi felt bitter in his heart. After drinking two glasses, when he was about to drink the third, Yan Chen reached out and took the glass, drinking it for him.
“Tsk tsk tsk, are you feeling sorry for him now, blocking the wine for him?” Amidst the teasing, Yan Chen placed the empty glass back on the table.
He lifted his eyelids, and his dark eyes scanned the few people who were making a fuss. “Are you guys done?”
The few were stunned for a moment, then returned to their seats reluctantly, continuing to drink and joke, no longer paying attention to An Yi.
After three rounds of drinks, most of the people in the booth went to the dance floor or left in pairs.
An Yi was alone, huddled in a corner of the booth, staring blankly at the dance floor not far away.
Suddenly, an unopened bottle of honey pomelo tea was handed to him. Following the arm upward, An Yi saw the face of a young and handsome stranger.
“You drank a little too fast just now,” the man handed him the drink, “This can help with the alcohol.”
An Yi hesitated before taking it and said, “Thank you.”
The man smiled and reached out his hand, introducing himself, “I’m Qin Muye, I also went to the same hight school as you, I’m your junior.”
“Ah, hello,” An Yi vaguely remembered the name and shook his hand awkwardly.
Qin Muye sat down next to him and asked concernedly, “Your fingers are so hot, are you feeling unwell?”
An Yi shook his head, “I always get like this when I drink.”
Qin Muye smiled, “Is that so? No wonder your face looks a bit flushed.” He looked around and asked, “Where’s Yan Chen? He brought you here, why isn’t he with you?”
An Yi smiled bitterly, “I’m used to being alone, I don’t need him to accompany me.”
Qin Muye nodded, “Indeed, Yan Chen doesn’t have that patience.”
He changed the topic and asked about An Yi’s work.
The two chatted casually in the noisy bar, and for a while, An Yi didn’t have time to think about Yan Chen anymore, feeling a lot lighter in his heart.
Yan Chen came back from smoking with Qi Wenxing outside and saw the two of them sitting in the booth chatting and laughing, their shoulders touching, their heads almost close together.
“What are you talking about that makes you so happy?”
The conversation of the two was interrupted, and they both looked up. Qin Muye remained calm, but An Yi’s smile visibly stiffened for a moment.
Yan Chen’s face tightened, and he said coldly, “An Yi, I thought you were quite reserved, but I didn’t expect you to make new friends in just a cigarette’s time.”
An Yi lowered his eyelids and didn’t respond.
The matter with Lin Yuming already had Yan Chen irritated, and now anything he said would just add fuel to the fire.
But Qin Muye spoke gently, “Well, that’s just how it is.”
“Oh, it seems you like him too,” Yan Chen smirked, “How about I give him to you after I’m done with him?”
