Chapter 125
Mo Yin sat in the corridor, eating bread while working on problems.
In fact, upon careful consideration, living in dorms seemed much better than renting a house. No matter how troublesome Mo Yufan and the others were, could they really be more troublesome than Mo Xuemin?
Nothing in the world was perfect; he shouldn’t be so distressed about it.
People like Li Xiu were simply not worth expecting anything from, just amusing to tease from the start.
The pen scratched heavily across the draft paper. Mo Yin felt terrible; a strong sense of resentment surged within him. Was he really that laughable? Everything he did seemed like a joke to Li Xiu, whether it was skipping tickets or conflicts with roommates. To Li Xiu, it was just amusement, but to him, it was so important.
Mo Yin tried to console himself with the usual reasoning.
It wasn’t worth it. He shouldn’t let anything besides himself affect his emotions.
Fingers tightly gripped the pen, Mo Yin took several deep breaths, finally calming down enough to focus on his problems.
Returning to the dormitory, Mo Yufan started complaining again about Mo Yin making too much noise. Annoyed, Mo Yin dropped the basin he was carrying, causing a loud noise.
Mo Yufan sat up directly from his bed. “What are you doing?!”
Ignoring him, Mo Yin pushed the basin back onto the shelf forcefully.
Mo Yin started to fight back.
In the morning, the whole room 508 was awakened by the alarm clock before 6 o’clock.
The mobile alarm was the simplest kind of “ding ding”, Mo Yufan woke up, muddled and angrily shouted, “Who is it?”
Mo Yin took his phone and went to the shelf to get the basin. When he passed Mo Yufan’s bed, he pressed the volume key up two notches.
“Are you sick?”
Mo Yufan was completely awake, sitting up from the bed, yelling at Mo Yin’s back.
Mo Yin washed up at the empty water tower, then returned to the dormitory and began to manipulate everything in the dormitory.
The three of them all got up from the bed.
“What do you mean?”
Mo Yufan pushed Mo Yin’s shoulder, Mo Yin turned his head, staring at him with black eyes, “You push me?”
Mo Yufan was about as tall as Mo Yin, but Mo Yin was thinner than him. He stared at Mo Yin and thought of his bad guesses about Mo Yin. He raised his voice, “Don’t be bad first. It’s only a few points now. You’re noisy. How can we sleep?”
The other two also had some grievances and echoed. The three of them have always been like this. Mo Yufan takes the lead, and the other two echo.
So Mo Yin just stared at Mo Yufan, the leader, and said word by word, “If you can’t sleep in the dormitory, you can sleep in the corridor.”
Mo Yufan almost fought Mo Yin, and the other two stopped him in time.
Mo Yin stood still with the basin in his hand and said to Mo Yufan, “There are many pimples on your face, and your temper is too strong.”
Mo Yufan roared, “Don’t stop me, I have to fight him today!”
“Fine, don’t stop him,” Mo Yin said. “I’ve heard that only tethered dogs are particularly aggressive. Don’t play around anymore. Let him go. Let’s see if he dares to hit me.”
Mo Yin had endured quietly for so long that both of them thought he was the kind of sinister person who schemed in secret. They hadn’t expected him to suddenly be so sharp-tongued, leaving them both stunned.
“Go ahead, hit me. If you dare touch me, I won’t stop until you drop out. Consider it a free lesson.”
Mo Yin gave Mo Yufan a cold glance, who was equally stunned. He forcefully pushed the basin back onto the shelf, making a loud clang.
The war was officially on.
Since there was no other way to resolve this, it had come to this. They had pushed him to it.
Mo Yin returned to his desk and took out his vocabulary book to study. He wore headphones and read aloud.
Mo Yufan’s face turned pale and red again. “You deliberately disturb our sleep like this. Have you no sense of reason?”
Mo Yin continued reading, ignoring him completely.
“This is outrageous!” Mo Yufan’s lips trembled with anger. He grabbed his phone from the bed and started recording Mo Yin, saying, “It’s normal to chat when we return to the dorm after evening self-study. But you deliberately made noise early in the morning, making us unable to sleep at all. You’re really unreasonable!”
Mo Yin squeezed the vocabulary book tighter, refusing to acknowledge anything he said or did.
The situation inevitably reached the teachers, just as Mo Yin had expected. The teacher called him for a conversation.
“Everyone has different living habits, and you need to adapt to each other,” the teacher said.
Mo Yin lowered his head, hands behind his back. After a moment, he lifted his face. “Teacher, can I apply to live alone?”
The homeroom teacher paused. “Is your conflict so deep?”
Mo Yin replied, “Teacher, I just want to focus on studying well in the dorm.”
The homeroom teacher sighed slowly. “Studying isn’t the only thing… Alright, I’ll try to arrange something for you. Let’s see if I can place you with students from other classes who excel in their studies. Maybe you’ll get along better.”
It was already a good measure.
Mo Yin hoped for a quieter dormitory that would isolate him from others.
The homeroom teacher was concerned about Mo Yin’s situation and immediately contacted other homeroom teachers from different classes to discuss. Since it was still early in the senior year, there was time to adjust dormitory arrangements.
After discussing several seemingly good dormitories, the homeroom teachers called the students to the office to hear their opinions. They asked if anyone was willing to share a dormitory with Mo Yin or if anyone would be willing to switch dormitories with him.
To the surprise of the homeroom teacher from Class 2, they unanimously refused to room with Mo Yin.
“Teacher, we’re fine with our group of four.”
“Well, I’m worried about how it might affect his studies.”
“Teacher, he’s too good academically. I would feel pressured living with him.”
“…Various reasons for refusal,” exchanged glances among the teachers, who then dismissed the students.
“Your class treasure doesn’t seem to have good popularity,” remarked another teacher.
Mo Yin’s homeroom teacher frowned. “He’s more straightforward, solely focused on studying. He isn’t good at socializing.”
“He’s smart but lacks social skills. It’s difficult. Kids these days are quite individualistic, and as teachers, our ability to intervene is limited. No one wants to room with him. I think you should help him identify his own issues.”
The homeroom teacher glanced silently at her colleague, thinking about Mo Yin’s family situation. She had never dared to be harsh with him. How could his personality change easily?
Dealing with dormitory issues was indeed tricky. The homeroom teacher decided to temporarily postpone handling this matter and focus on other tasks at hand.
During the day, there was supposed to be physical education class, but the physics teacher was away for a seminar today. Li Xiu, who was passing on the physics test papers, informed everyone that PE class would proceed as usual today and that occasional exercise was necessary.
Li Xiu first informed the two students in his class, then asked Zhang Qiyuan to inform the students from Grades 10 and 11, and went to the door of Class 2.
During break time, the classroom was relatively quiet. Most students sat in their seats, some chatting in groups of three or four. Li Xiu spotted Mo Yin, seated in the center of the front row, known as the spot for diligent students. Li Xiu, being tall himself, preferred not to sit at the front row despite the homeroom teacher’s suggestion.
Mo Yin’s desk was exceptionally neat, with all books aligned neatly. His exercise books were stacked from light to dark, without any overlapping corners like others, probably to avoid others accidentally touching his books. Mo Yin’s sitting posture was very standard, like an example in an elementary school textbook on how to hold a pen properly for younger children to emulate. Even his expression was focused.
Li Xiu smiled to himself, thinking that if he told Mo Yin that he found him quite cute, it wouldn’t just be bread hitting his face.
Li Xiu, who excelled academically from a young age and couldn’t find any faults in himself, naturally surrounded himself with similar “friends,” all from good family backgrounds with well-planned lives. Even their personalities were similar, mostly cheerful and obedient.
Standing at the door for a while, someone asked if he was looking for Mo Yin. Li Xiu smiled and confirmed.
The student hesitated visibly, asking reluctantly, seeming reluctant to help with Li Xiu’s request to approach Mo Yin, who was quite a distinctive figure in their class, making him feel a bit awkward.
However, Li Xiu didn’t press him further and entered Class 2’s classroom on his own.
Although it was break time, the unspoken rule against crossing class boundaries was treated as absolute by everyone. When Li Xiu entered, the students from Class 2 looked at him in surprise.
Mo Yin was focusing on solving problems with his head bowed. The classroom during the break was quieter than their dormitory and more suitable for studying, although he did feel a bit tired from waking up early in the morning. When his attention was fully on the problems, he felt better. After solving a problem, he checked his answer and found it completely correct. He smiled to himself. In that moment of smiling, he noticed a curved finger tapping on his book.
Mo Yin looked up.
Seeing Li Xiu, Mo Yin wondered if he was hallucinating due to his fatigue. But how could he see Li Xiu in a self-induced hallucination?
Li Xiu said, “Mr. Qian will be out for a research meeting this afternoon. Training is canceled, but PE class will proceed as usual.”
Mo Yin nodded. “Got it.”
Li Xiu waved to Zhang Jiaming, who was looking in their direction. Zhang Jiaming was originally talking with Liang Jianhao. After Li Xiu entered, they both stopped and looked towards Li Xiu and Mo Yin. In fact, almost half of the class was watching them.
After hesitating for a moment, Zhang Jiaming stood up and walked over.
Li Xiu said, “Training is canceled this afternoon.”
Zhang Jiaming replied with an “Oh,” glanced at Mo Yin, who had already lowered his head and was working on the next problem.
During PE class, Mo Yin thought about secretly staying in the classroom. However, the PE teacher was strict and today wasn’t a day for ball sports, making it difficult to escape. He resigned himself to participating in the physical activities.
Mo Yin’s performance in PE was average. He struggled hard during the middle school physical exams to avoid deduction points and rarely focused on physical education after passing.
Today’s class was held not in the gym but outdoors on the playground, which was good news for Mo Yin as he could at least enjoy the sunlight.
After basic warm-ups, the PE teacher instructed them to run two laps around the field to warm up their legs.
The students groaned, but the teacher seemed satisfied. “Hurry up! If you dawdle, it’ll be three laps.”
Everyone reluctantly lined up in a somewhat disorganized manner to run.
There were two other classes on the playground having PE class as well.
Classes 1 and 3 were grouped together, and the three PE teachers seemed to have coordinated to make their classes “run together.”
Mo Yin gradually fell behind and soon found himself at the end of Class 2’s line. The sunlight overhead was intense, and Mo Yin’s neck was sweating. He panted lightly.
The teacher blew the whistle loudly from the platform at the front, urging them not to slow down, specifically targeting Mo Yin.
Mo Yin took a deep breath and pushed forward with a strong step. Suddenly, he was bumped from behind. Because he was about to accelerate, the inertia combined with the force nearly knocked him down. Stumbling forward a few steps, he even collided with a girl in front of him, causing a scream. Mo Yin abruptly stopped, turned around, and saw Mo Yufan smiling cheekily.
“Sorry, you’re too slow. Couldn’t stop in time,” Mo Yufan said.
Even the PE teachers who were chatting didn’t expect the running group to suddenly start fighting.
Even Mo Yufan himself didn’t expect Mo Yin to immediately grab his collar and punch him to the ground without hesitation.
Once the fight started, it had to be resolved decisively. That was Mo Yin’s resolve.
Surrounding students stopped running and watched in astonishment at this rare scene in Ko Fu.
Zhang Jiaming was completely stunned when he saw the two fighters. He instinctively took a step closer, then hesitated and stopped. Liang Jianhao grabbed his shoulder and exclaimed loudly, “Damn, it’s really happening!”
The one who strikes first has no advantage other than seizing the initiative. Mo Yufan quickly gained the upper hand. A surge of inexplicable adrenaline rushed to his brain. Although there was no deep-seated hatred, his blows were heavy. He punched Mo Yin hard in the stomach, causing Mo Yin to retch. Seizing the opportunity, Mo Yin grabbed Mo Yufan’s arm with force, opened his mouth, and bit down hard. Mo Yufan screamed in pain.
Teachers had already run over from the other end of the playground. Students shouted, “Step aside! Stop fighting!”
The students quickly cleared a path, but attempts to break up the fight were ineffective. As students stepped back, Li Xiu, who was leading the pack, came over, grabbed Mo Yin by the back of his neck, and pulled him away from biting Mo Yufan. Mo Yufan held his arm, tears streaming down from the pain. He instinctively tried to kick Mo Yin again, but Li Xiu anticipated his move and kicked Mo Yufan away first.
