Chapter 205
“In the first week after receiving his ‘new identity’, Tianshu began living a life he had never imagined.
His activities were mostly confined to Mo Yin’s room. Meals were delivered to him at fixed times, almost indistinguishable from those during his confinement. One evening, Mo Yin returned and had dinner with him. The meal Mo Yin received was the same as his—overcooked rice and potatoes, lacking in flavor.
In District Nine, no one had any privileges, and Tianshu was experiencing this firsthand. Another thing he was experiencing firsthand was the commanding officer’s vigorous energy.
The first time they did this, Tianshu underwent a long mental preparation. The steamy atmosphere of the communal bathhouse was greatly supportive.
Perhaps that was the commander’s only remaining kindness.
Their second time together was much more direct and rough compared to the first.
The commander returned to the room, took off his cap, unbuckled his belt and grabbed his usual whip, unbuttoning his clothes and told Tianshu, who was sitting at the desk reading, ‘Undress.’
On the desk lay books about weapons production with a large number of annotations, with Mo Yin’s presence on the desk as well. There was nothing else to pass the time in the room, so Tianshu naturally began to turn the pages.
Tianshu cupped the book in his palm and looked up quietly at the commander.
The commander didn’t look like he was seeking pleasure at all; his expression was calm, his fingers undid one button after another, and the corners of his eyes looked over to urge him on as if to rush.
Tianshu sat as if petrified, motionless in his chair, and slowly lowered his gaze.
Mo Yin had already taken off his shirt.
His direct gaze fell on the line of abdominal muscles.
Mo Yin reached out and touched Tianshu’s head, his tone gentle, ‘What are you stalling for?’ The hand that stroked his head, however, pushed him forward with no gentleness.
His forehead collided with the slightly cool skin, and the intense metallic scent washed over him. His lips brushed against the metal button, the taste of blood. Tianshu raised his head, and Mo Yin, who still hadn’t taken off his upper body, was only wearing a pair of gloves. The leather gloves were tightly joined with the rough and scarred hands, which Charlie considered a sign of lower class, but were actually the proof of numerous adventures.
Mo Yin bore the gaze that Tianshu lifted up.
With a ‘smack,’ Tianshu closed the book in his hands.
Mo Yin looked down at Tianshu with interest, wondering what kind of reaction he would get from him.
He knew that he was not a person who would blindly obey, and confrontations in various worlds had proven that.
In this situation, resistance was actually a childish choice, and powerless struggles only increased the enjoyment of those in power. If he were smart enough, he should have chosen to compromise temporarily in order to wait for a later move.
Just like in the first world, Mo Yin was in a weak position where he could only rely on his intelligence, his calculations, and his understanding and utilization of relationships between people.
What choice would Tianshu make?
Mo Yin watched as Tianshu stood up.
The two were of similar height and build, standing face to face, and they were so close that it was hard to say whether the next second would be an intimate kiss or a violent fight.
Mo Yin would willingly accept either scenario.
Tianshu chose the latter.
Neither side used their mental abilities, instead fighting like primitive men.
For Mo Yin, this was also very appetizing.
The narrow room was clearly not the ideal place to fight. After a few exchanges, it was hard to say who would fall first — in any case, after the fight moved to the bed, everything became natural.
Compared to the last time, this time there was a strong sense of competition between the two sides, making as much noise as a physical fight.
Mo Yin was fierce, and Tianshu frowned tightly. Both of them seemed to have some deep-seated resentment, but in terms of action, they were perfectly coordinated.
Gradually, Mo Yin’s waist softened, and he kissed Tianshu’s lips, his expression and eyes showing tenderness. In the gentle kiss that Mo Yin had no malice in, Tianshu gradually became confused, moving his hands from the waist that had been tightly locked on Mo Yin up, and then realized afterward that he had completely let the other side lead in this matter.
Afterward, when he regained his senses, he saw Tianshu leaning against the wall and looking at Mo Yin’s back, and there were deep and shallow palm prints on Mo Yin’s back. Was he that excited just now?”
Mo Yin, wearing a shirt draped over his shoulders, turned to look at Tianshu. Tianshu’s shoulders were crisscrossed with scratches, all from Mo Yin. Mo Yin smiled satisfactorily, leaned over, and kissed Tianshu on the forehead. “Perform well. There will be rewards.”
Tianshu’s expression was far from pleased, showing no interest in the so-called rewards. He openly scrutinized Mo Yin, curiosity and desire to explore evident on his face.
He felt a strong urge to unravel Mo Yin’s mysteries, unable to comprehend what Mo Yin was thinking or what experiences had shaped him into the person Tianshu now saw.
These questions troubled him, leaving him perplexed and conflicted.
Mo Yin found satisfaction in Tianshu’s expression. “Get to know me,” Mo Yin had urged, playing the enigmatic figure, waiting for others to explore. Such behavior didn’t please Mo Yin; curiosity and confusion should be mutual. “He” must have experienced everything Mo Yin had gone through.
The reward Mo Yin promised was Tianshu’s chance to visit Charlie in prison.
Tianshu felt guilty towards his partner. Inside the prison, the corridors were eerily quiet as always. When they reached the end, Tianshu realized the cell now housed three people.
The commander from District Five stood up behind the bars, his expression one of utter shock.
Charlie, sitting on the ground, said, “I told you he’s here too. Do you believe me now?”
Tianshu remained composed.
From the moment the commander from District Eight was arrested, Tianshu had an inkling of what would happen.
Charlie stood up and approached the bars, gripping them. “How is it?”
Tianshu responded with a stern expression.
There were no surveillance devices in this section, and mental powers were shielded. Charlie’s face contorted; now he wasn’t concerned with why Tianshu had brought him to negotiate in District Nine. The increasing number of commanders in prison indicated that the lunatic aimed to eliminate all commanders from District Thirteen. The order of their capture was becoming irrelevant. Charlie worried about what Mo Yin was planning.
“He let only you out. Did you negotiate?” Charlie pressed for details.
Tianshu didn’t know how to respond, vaguely stating, “He wasn’t friendly towards me.”
Charlie urged, “Use your charm!”
Tianshu’s expression grew subtle.
Charlie hurried, “Hey, friend, I believe you’re not one to hesitate. In this situation, try to win the enemy’s favor. It would greatly help us. Oh, wait, if you can return here to see us, it means he has given you some freedom. Please tell me, things might not be as bad as we think. You’ve almost convinced that lunatic to cooperate with us, right?”
Commanders from Districts Five and Eight flanked Charlie, their faces serious and eager.
Given the independent nature of enforcement Districts, commanders rarely met privately. After the commanders from Districts Eight and Five were thrown into prison, Charlie engaged in deep exchanges they hadn’t had since becoming commanders. They exchanged some information while withholding certain details from each other, mutual awareness of this mutual withholding, forming a temporary and reserved alliance under these circumstances.
Facing pressure from the three, Tianshu said, “District Nine has developed weapons that can harm mental powers. Based on my speculation, the ultimate effect might be to destroy mental powers, reducing people to primitives.”
This statement stunned the commanders, all adept in mental powers, across the alliance.
For naturals, mental powers were more crucial than life. As evolution had progressed to this day, losing mental powers was unimaginable for naturals and didn’t fit into any kind of concept.
“So…” Charlie’s facial muscles twitched involuntarily. “Is that lunatic trying to regress the entire world to ancient civilizations? Isn’t he afraid of the Judges?”
Tianshu countered, “What are the Judges?”
Charlie opened his mouth to answer but froze in place.
The Judges were a collective of mental powers sacrificed by past predecessors, gathering the lingering spiritual strength of those unwillingly left behind, forming a powerful, monstrous entity that all enforcement Districts regarded as the Supreme Court.
Now, however, there was a madman attempting to directly eradicate mental powers…
So the Judges might cease to exist as well.
Once Charlie realized this, a chill ran down his spine.
Could an entity that everyone assumed was unshakeable really disappear?!
At this rate, he dared not fathom the limits of the lunatic’s madness.
What did he really intend to do?!
“Charlie,” Tianshu’s voice snapped Charlie out of his spiraling thoughts, bringing a semblance of reason back to him. Tianshu’s gaze was steady, offering significant support to Charlie and the other two commanders. “Things aren’t that dire yet.”
“At least coming to District Nine was the right choice, wouldn’t you agree?”
Entering the heart of danger was a mission commanders were obliged to undertake.
During this visit, Tianshu reassured the three imprisoned commanders, reaffirming his own beliefs.
As he left the prison, a young soldier named Wu Zhong was waiting for him. When Tianshu emerged, Wu Zhong said, “The commander is waiting for you at the outpost.”
The outpost in District Nine faced the Judges.
The appearance of the Judges varied across Districts; in District Nine, it manifested as a dark structure, seemingly blending into the entirety of the District.
Tianshu ascended to the outpost, where Mo Yin was gazing at the Judges.
The shadow of the Judges completely enveloped the outpost in District Nine, Mo Yin’s figure disappearing into the darkness, with only his strikingly white long hair visible.
“Finished talking?” Mo Yin asked without turning back.
His tone shifted back to its familiar casualness as if chatting with an old friend.
Tianshu immediately felt uncomfortable.
He didn’t approach, standing not far behind Mo Yin. “Are you trying to gather all the commanders in District Nine?”
Mo Yin chuckled softly. “Gather? That’s a good word.”
“There’s a succession principle in enforcement Districts. You should know that when a commander disappears for too long, their authority in that District naturally diminishes. There are always replacements ready to take over, so even if you manage to capture all current commanders, what difference would it make?”
Mo Yin smiled again, his hands crossed behind his back, moving slowly.
“You’ve seen my notes. Do you still not know what I intend to do?”
He had deliberately left those notes for Tianshu to see.
A sense of foreboding crept over Tianshu.
“To ensure District Nine can sustain itself, I often lead expeditions to explore outer space for resources. Every find results in sacrifices, but that’s necessary for survival.”
Mo Yin turned his head, his calm expression conveying sincerity to Tianshu.
“District Nine is barren,” Mo Yin continued. “I don’t like that.”
This “Mo Yin” had zero interest in becoming an enforcer.
He had no intention of climbing to the top within a framework already set in stone; his true goal was to shatter this world’s rules and rewrite them entirely.
“I’m not interested in the authority you commanders hold in the enforcement Districts,” Mo Yin’s lips curled slightly, his purple eyes subtly hinting at a tendency toward transformation into red. “You’re just experiments to me.”
