Professor Qi, Let’s Fake a Marriage Chapter 28

Chapter 28: Wen Zhixian, Are You Getting Back at Me?

He finally understood why the boss had gone to such great lengths to place the coffee order here.

“Then please carry it yourself,” Qi Yanjing said in an even tone.

The assistant smiled. “You’re too kind.”

With the box in hand, the assistant said to Wen Zhixian, “Goodbye, Boss Wen.”

After speaking, he gave Qi Yanjing a slight nod before turning and leaving.

Wen Zhixian watched the door close and said, “It’ll take another four days to finish this 3,000-cup order.”

“You’re working hard,” Qi Yanjing said, rubbing her head gently.

The employees in the back quietly murmured among themselves.
“Isn’t this sweeter than being with President Gu?”
“Now that you mention it, the way President Gu acted yesterday, it was like he was about to blow up.”

Wen Zhixian walked to the front desk and said, “I have some plans tonight, so I’m leaving early.”

“Are you going on a date with your husband?” they teased.

Wen Zhixian chuckled. “Alright, I’m off.”

She pulled Qi Yanjing along and left the store.

Wen Zhixian drove home and switched to the passenger seat of Qi Yanjing’s car.

On the way, she asked, “Did you make the restaurant reservation?”

“I made it during lunch, at the East Palace,” he replied.

She couldn’t help but admire how thorough Mr. Qi always was.

At 5:30 p.m., they arrived at the hotel. The East Palace, a landmark luxury hotel, exuded opulence everywhere.

As they got out of the car, they coincidentally saw Wen Zhixian’s parents at the entrance.

“Mom, Dad, over here!” Wen Zhixian waved and ran toward them.

Qi Yanjing stood before them and greeted, “Mom, Dad.”

Wen Xingzhi and Shen Ling’s smiles widened as they saw their daughter and son-in-law. “Yanjing, are your parents here yet?”

“They’ve arrived and are waiting for us in the private room,” Qi Yanjing replied.

“Let’s hurry then. We can’t keep the in-laws waiting,” they said.

Qi Yanjing held Wen Zhixian’s hand as they walked beside her parents. “My parents came early on purpose to wait for us,” he explained.

Wen Xingzhi and Shen Ling had yet to find any fault with Qi Yanjing. He was exceptional, and even his unseen parents had demonstrated impeccable manners so far.

Wen Zhixian glanced up at Mr. Qi, noticing how naturally he interacted with her parents.

Qi Yanjing sensed her gaze and pulled her closer to his side.

In the private room, Qi Yusheng and Tan Ruigu greeted them warmly. The parents exchanged pleasantries, and their first impressions of each other were quite positive.

Once everyone was seated, the server politely asked, “May I start serving the dishes?”

With the go-ahead, they quickly began preparing the courses.

Qi Yusheng was the first to speak. “In-laws, we owe you an apology. What our son did this time was indeed too abrupt.”

After all, Qi Yanjing had proposed marriage to Wen Zhixian without involving his parents beforehand. It was practically deceiving her family, and they felt they had to apologize.

Wen Xingzhi chuckled. “Not at all. It was their decision. Even though they haven’t known each other long, we recognize Yanjing as a good child.”

Not recognizing him wasn’t an option—they were already married, after all. For now, their approval was wholehearted.

As the parents began chatting, their conversation flowed effortlessly. Meanwhile, Wen Zhixian and Qi Yanjing quietly enjoyed their meal, occasionally whispering to each other.

The dinner stretched on until 8:30 p.m., and both families parted ways with smiles on their faces. Before leaving, each set of parents gave their children a few parting words, wrapping up the evening.

After seeing their parents off, Wen Zhixian turned to Qi Yanjing and asked, “Did you pay the bill in advance?”

Qi Yanjing glanced at the Aston Martin parked across the street and internally scoffed before quickly turning to Wen Zhixian with a smile. “It might be my parents.”

Wen Zhixian blinked at him. “I was planning to pay for dinner since you booked the restaurant, but I didn’t succeed.”

“This just means my parents like you.”

The two stood by the roadside as the night breeze picked up, gently lifting Wen Zhixian’s long hair. Qi Yanjing reached out to tuck it behind her ear.

So far, he hadn’t regretted his impulsive decision to marry her. On the contrary, he felt he had gained much more than he’d expected.

The psychologist had been right: having someone who resonated with you emotionally was better than endless counseling.

Both of them had drunk a little but not excessively, so they called for a designated driver.

Once seated in the back, Qi Yanjing lowered the car window and looked at the Aston Martin across the street. Coincidentally, the rear window of that car also rolled down. Though the dim interior obscured the person’s face, someone in the backseat extended a hand out of the window, waving goodbye.

Qi Yanjing retracted his gaze, adjusted his position, and leaned against Wen Zhixian.

The night air was slightly chilly, prompting the driver to roll the window up halfway.

It took about 30 minutes to get home.

After arriving, Qi Yanjing checked his social media feed and found that his father-in-law had posted a photo of their marriage certificate along with pictures from dinner.

Was this his official announcement?

Without hesitation, he dug out their marriage certificate, stacked it together, snapped a photo, and posted it with the caption: “Newlyweds.”

Now everyone should know he was married.

As expected, the well-wishes came pouring in.

While basking in the joy of the congratulatory messages, the incessant ringing of Wen Zhixian’s phone on the table caught his attention. The caller ID was just a string of numbers with no name, and the calls came one after another, nonstop.

The relentless ringing gave him a headache.

Fortunately, his sleep quality had improved lately. Otherwise, with his previous condition, the phone wouldn’t have stayed intact on the table after such noise.

When Wen Zhixian came out of the shower and heard the phone ringing, she asked, “Who is it?”

“No name, just a number. They’ve called four times already,” Qi Yanjing replied.

A name surfaced in Wen Zhixian’s mind. “Answer it.”

Qi Yanjing seemed to have an idea of who it was. Calling incessantly at this hour, especially after her father’s social media post, left little doubt.

He picked up the phone and answered. Before he could speak, an angry voice erupted from the other end:
“Wen Zhixian, what the hell is wrong with you? Who did you marry? How long has it even been since we broke up? And now you’ve already moved on? Is this what you call love? You must’ve been with someone else while you were still with me, right?”

Gu Yuchen’s voice was loud enough for Wen Zhixian, seated beside Qi Yanjing, to hear every word clearly. Unable to hold back, she took the phone from him.
“Are you comforting yourself by slandering me? Since you’re aware we broke up, what does my marriage have to do with you? My life is now on the track I want—a marriage of mutual respect and effort.”

Gu Yuchen gritted his teeth. “I’ll say it again: we didn’t break up.”

“Dating isn’t legally binding. If you insist, then I can say we were never together.”

“Wen Zhixian! You’re doing this to get back at me.”

“When I liked you, you didn’t care. You were stuck in the past, drowning in your own world. It didn’t feel like we were in a relationship. Honestly, I’m beginning to wonder if you were with me because you saw me as Li Chaomu.”

Her words carried a hint of mockery.

She hadn’t meant to say anything serious, but her offhand remark hit the mark.

Gu Yuchen’s pupils contracted sharply. His fingertips, gripping the edge of the phone, turned pale.
