Chapter 30: You’ve Already Shown You Care
Yue Qi gestured toward a table in the back. “It’s her. Boss, I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”
Following Yue Qi’s direction, Wen Zhixian spotted a strikingly beautiful woman with a cold demeanor.
Wen Zhixian walked over. “Hello, may I ask why you’re looking for me?”
The woman removed her sunglasses and sized Wen Zhixian up with a sharp gaze. “You’re quite pretty.”
Wen Zhixian blinked in confusion. “…What?” What was this woman trying to do?
The woman spoke coolly. “I won’t make things difficult for you now. I’ll wait until he gets here to ask everything.”
“Miss, I’m not sure what you’re talking about,” Wen Zhixian replied, thoroughly puzzled.
The woman fixed her gaze on Wen Zhixian. “If there’s really something going on, don’t think this shop of yours will stay open.”
Just as Wen Zhixian was about to respond, she saw the polished man who had ordered 3,000 cups of coffee the other day walk in.
He strode over, grabbed the woman by the arm, and dragged her outside, all the while apologizing profusely to Wen Zhixian. “Sorry, so sorry about this.”
The woman protested angrily, “What are you doing? You haven’t even asked her yet! Let go of me!”
Wen Zhixian watched them leave, a realization dawning on her—this woman thought her boyfriend was cheating on her.
The woman was ushered into the car, and as the door shut, the window was tapped twice.
Both occupants turned to see who it was and immediately greeted, “Mom.”
“What are you two doing here?” Tan Ruigu asked, curious.
Xie Anru, her expression composed, turned to Qi Yaochuan and asked, “Who was that just now? Don’t tell me you have nothing to do with her. You traveled all this way to order 3,000 cups of coffee, spread over six days? Qi Yaochuan, this level of generosity doesn’t seem like you.”
Hearing this, Tan Ruigu chuckled. Xie Anru turned to her. “Mom, what are you doing here?”
Tan Ruigu pointed toward the café. “I thought someone was causing trouble, so I came to check. Turns out it’s you.”
Xie Anru paused, startled.
“She’s Yanjing’s newlywed wife—your sister-in-law.”
Xie Anru froze for a moment before regaining her senses. “Yanjing got married?”
She had just returned from a business trip, but it felt like stepping into a completely different era.
“Yes, very sudden.”
Xie Anru swallowed hard. “Was I too abrupt in coming here? Will he be mad?”
Qi Yaochuan nodded. “He will. Expect a call from him tonight.”
Wen Zhixian, thinking they wouldn’t return, was surprised when the pair came back about five minutes later.
Xie Anru walked up to her and apologized sincerely, “I’m sorry. I misunderstood.”
Wen Zhixian sighed quietly and nodded. “It’s alright.”
This woman, Wen Zhixian thought, was at least reasonable. She hadn’t immediately accused her but waited for her boyfriend to clarify things.
“How about I order another 3,000 cups of coffee?” Xie Anru offered.
Wen Zhixian was speechless. “…”
“No need. Please shop rationally and avoid impulse purchases.” There was no need for such excessive transactions.
Qi Yaochuan smirked and tugged at Xie Anru.
In the end, Xie Anru bought two cups of coffee, which Qi Yaochuan carried.
As she waved goodbye, Xie Anru said, “See you next time.”
“Goodbye.”
After seeing the pair off, Wen Zhixian finally got to work.
She finished early that day and decided to visit a nearby supermarket to pick up groceries.
After buying vegetables, fish, and shrimp, she pushed her cart toward the checkout.
Passing the section with mugs, she paused to browse, chuckled softly at something, and then proceeded to pay and head home.
Just as she left the supermarket, she spotted Qi Yanjing parking his car and stepping out.
She waved at him, and Qi Yanjing, noticing her, paused momentarily before walking over to take the shopping bags from her hands.
“I bought some ingredients. If there’s anything else we need, we can go back inside,” she said.
Qi Yanjing glanced at the bags in his hands. “No need. Let’s go home.”
He had originally planned to buy some groceries to take home, but it worked out perfectly that they both thought the same.
They drove home in their own cars.
Wen Zhixian noticed that besides the shopping bag she had handed him, Qi Yanjing was also holding two bottles of red wine. She walked over. “Let me carry one of those.”
Without hesitation, Qi Yanjing handed her the two bottles of wine, which felt light.
“You bought wine?” she asked as she carried the bags and walked alongside him into the elevator.
Qi Yanjing replied, “No, it was a gift from a colleague in my office.”
Since he had announced his marriage on social media the night before, many colleagues had sent their congratulations. This morning, Zhou Chuyu had brought him two bottles of wine.
Wen Zhixian was curious. “Do you have other colleagues in your office?”
He explained, “Last year, we could’ve moved to separate offices, but I didn’t want to deal with the hassle, so I stayed in the same office as him.”
“He also mentioned wanting to have a meal with you,” Qi Yanjing added.
Wen Zhixian smiled. “Sure, that sounds good.”
Since Qi Yanjing had mentioned it, she would agree to it.
Once they got home, they changed clothes and began preparing dinner. Wen Zhixian casually mentioned, “It’s been so strange lately. Random people have been looking for me.”
After putting the dishes on the table and washing his hands, Qi Yanjing, listening intently, asked casually, “Who came to see you today?”
“A woman. She was very beautiful. I think she might be the girlfriend of the person who ordered the 3,000 cups of coffee. I had a feeling she came to confront me because she thought her boyfriend was cheating.”
Wen Zhixian laughed as she spoke, then looked at Qi Yanjing. “It turned out to be a misunderstanding. She even offered to buy another 3,000 cups of coffee, but I turned her down.”
Some business was just not worth pursuing.
Qi Yanjing gave a faint, emotionless smile. “That’s pretty strange.”
He quietly clenched his fist.
He then asked Wen Zhixian, “Do we have wine glasses at home?”
“I’ll go get them,” she said, going to the wine cabinet to retrieve two glasses, wiping them clean before placing them on the table.
Qi Yanjing opened one of the bottles of wine that Zhou Chuyu had gifted him. The rich red liquid flowed down the side of the glass.
“These two bottles of wine actually belong to Zhou Chuyu’s father.”
Wen Zhixian paused, then asked, “Won’t his father mind?”
She glanced at the bottles, which appeared to be collector’s items.
Qi Yanjing’s voice was light, tinged with a hint of amusement as he glanced at her. “Why would he mind? It’s not like he’s coming after me.”
Wen Zhixian couldn’t help but smile.
Qi Yanjing handed her a wine glass. She took a small sip—it was good.
“Mom had lunch with me today.”
Qi Yanjing’s expression grew more serious. “What did she say to you?”
She shook her head. “She didn’t say much, just mentioned your quiet nature and hoped I’d take more care of you.”
“You’ve already been very caring,” he said softly.
Wen Zhixian didn’t quite understand. It felt like she hadn’t done much lately—just lived with him, eating, sleeping, and spending time together.
After dinner, Qi Yanjing sat alone on the lounge chair, enjoying the evening breeze, with his wine glass beside him.
Wen Zhixian finished drying her hair and came outside. She saw him standing on the balcony, exposed to the cold wind, his back showing a sense of loneliness. She grabbed a thin blanket and brought it over to him. “It’s chilly tonight. Don’t catch a cold.”
“Do you have something on your mind?” Wen Zhixian asked, bending slightly, her curiosity piqued as she looked at him.
