Professor Qi, Let’s Fake a Marriage Chapter 39

Chapter 39: Boss Wen, You Are the Second Owner of This Ring

Wen Zhixian accompanied Qi Yanjing for a nap. When it was almost one o’clock, she quietly lifted the corner of the blanket, got out of bed, and prepared to head to the store.

Just as she got out of bed, Qi Yanjing suddenly opened his eyes.

She leaned over and tilted her head. “Did you have a bad dream?”

Qi Yanjing slowly sat up, looking at her face, which was now so close. Without hesitation, he kissed her lips, his right hand holding the side of her neck and forcing her to tilt her head back.

It was only when her breath became erratic that he released her, and she felt incredibly uneasy.

She cleared her throat. “I’ll head to the store in a bit.”

Qi Yanjing looked meaningfully at her lips, which had been slightly smudged by his kiss.

He reached out and beckoned her closer. Wen Zhixian stood still, unable to resist the urge to swallow. Qi Yanjing was very skilled, and those teasing little gestures made her lose herself.

She was supposed to go to the store, but if he kissed her again, she might not be able to leave.

Seeing that she wasn’t moving, Qi Yanjing leaned in closer, rubbing his thumb along her lips. “It’s smudged.”

Wen Zhixian watched the faint red mark on his thumb. Hmm… it was from him licking it.

She smiled. “I’m going to the store.”

Qi Yanjing got out of bed and followed her. “I’ll drive you.”

He drove her to the coffee shop. “Call me ten minutes before you finish work.”

“Okay.” She unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.

Qi Yanjing watched her enter safely before leaving.

Wen Zhixian went to the back to check the goods that had arrived earlier. After working for more than two hours, she finally took a break and sat down in a corner by the window in the front.

Aside from a few people she didn’t want to see recently, nothing had been bothering her.

Her rushed marriage was actually going well.

She turned the wedding ring on her ring finger a few times and smiled.

Suddenly, a shadow fell over her, and she looked up to see the woman from yesterday, the one in office wear.

“What a coincidence, we meet again,” the woman smiled at her.

Today, she was wearing a black skirt, looking elegant and poised. She sat down across from Wen Zhixian with a cup of coffee.

Wen Zhixian smiled politely but didn’t pay much attention.

“Don’t you have work to do today?” the woman started a conversation.

“Just finished,” Wen Zhixian replied.

The woman, curious, asked, “Are you a relative of the boss?”

“I am the boss.”

The woman was stunned for a couple of seconds before smiling. “Oh, you’re the boss.”

Since the woman was a customer, Wen Zhixian answered her questions politely.

“Boss, may I ask your last name?”

It was just a question about her surname, nothing special. “My last name is Wen.”

The woman nodded. “My last name is Shen.”

“Miss Shen.”

Miss Shen stared at Wen Zhixian’s face, trying to read something from it, but there wasn’t a hint of unusual emotion there, which made her feel slightly displeased, though she also found it amusing.

She then looked at the ring on Wen Zhixian’s ring finger. “Boss Wen, is this ring for sale?”

“Sorry, this is my wedding ring from my husband, so it’s not for sale.”

After all the conversation, it seemed she was just trying to buy her ring.

Yesterday, the woman had mentioned that the ring looked similar to the one her ex-boyfriend had given her, and maybe she wanted to buy it as a memento. But unfortunately, she wasn’t going to sell it.

“What if I offer seven figures?” Miss Shen smiled at her.

Wen Zhixian lowered her gaze and chuckled softly. “Miss Shen, do you think I could afford to open a store in this location if I needed money?”

Miss Shen’s smile froze for a moment, and her gaze shifted to the window. Indeed, the location was prime real estate—if money were tight, it would be impossible to open a shop here.

“I must have underestimated the relationship between you and your husband,” she said, taking a sip of her coffee. “This ring just reminds me of my ex.”

When Wen Zhixian heard her speak so sentimentally about her ex, she felt a wave of irritation. She hated when people brought up their exes in public after a breakup, especially when they did it with a tone of longing or admiration.

“Back then, I was ambitious. After all these years since the breakup, I still find myself missing the times when we were together.”

Wen Zhixian silently rolled her eyes. Missing him? If you’ve been apart for so long, and he’s probably married with children by now, what’s the point of holding on?

Just like Gu Yuchen, talking about the past but never really bringing up his ex. He only secretly thought about it—mental infidelity!

Wen Zhixian chuckled softly, still maintaining her politeness. “Don’t dwell on it. Maybe he’s already forgotten you.”

Miss Shen, who had been lost in nostalgia, felt her lips slowly droop at Wen Zhixian’s words.

She wanted to retort, but seeing the polite smile on Wen Zhixian’s face, it didn’t seem like a mockery—more like something said without thinking.

With nowhere to vent her frustration, she forced a smile and nodded. “You and your husband must have a great relationship.”

“I don’t like talking about my marriage with strangers. Please understand,” Wen Zhixian replied, making it clear she wasn’t interested in continuing the conversation.

Forget about Qi Yanjing; Wen Zhixian didn’t want to talk to her about anything besides coffee.

“Boss Wen, you’re really not selling it to me?” Miss Shen asked again.

Wen Zhixian repeated her answer. “No.”

“I just want to get back what’s mine. Since you’re not bothered by it and are willing to accept it, I’ll leave it to you. You’re its second owner.”

She grabbed her bag and stood up. Noticing Wen Zhixian’s expression darken, Miss Shen felt a flicker of pleasure. “Oh, by the way, maybe Qi Yanjing didn’t mention me, but I’m Shen Zhi.”

Miss Shen smiled provocatively at her, then confidently walked out of the coffee shop, her high heels clicking on the floor.

Wen Zhixian felt a chill run through her, looking down at the wedding ring on her finger. She wasn’t sure what she was feeling—there was a sense of disgust, as if she had swallowed a fly.

But she knew that her relationship with Qi Yanjing wasn’t built on deep emotional foundations. Whether he gave her a ring meant for someone else didn’t matter.

However, he had told her he was serious, that he wanted to spend his life with her. Why, then, would he give her something that had once belonged to his ex?

She had believed him, and was slowly letting herself be a part of his world.

Yet reality was proving her wrong—everything was a lie, another man holding on to old mementos of his ex.

She slapped her forehead and took several deep breaths to calm herself.

This was just her overthinking. She couldn’t condemn Qi Yanjing based on a few words from someone else.

If she misunderstood him, then hadn’t she just fallen into her own trap, allowing it to sever her relationship with him?

She couldn’t do that; it would hurt the bond between them.

A wound didn’t form overnight. Too much suspicion between them would lead to failure.

She needed to hear it from Qi Yanjing himself.

Once Qi Yanjing finished a phase of work, he came to the store early to find her.

He waited until she was done so they could go home together.

“Zhixian.” He stepped forward and took her hand, smiling faintly.

The staff members couldn’t help but smile when they saw Qi Yanjing. Their usually calm brother-in-law had completely changed the moment he saw the boss. His gentle demeanor was undeniable.

Wen Zhixian looked up at him and said, “Let’s go home.”
