Chapter 49: Postponed Financial Department Lecture
Zhou Chuyu leaned in front of him: “Aren’t you curious about why she’s looking for you?”
Qi Yanjing answered simply, “Not curious.”
Zhou Chuyu was sure of it!
Qi Yanjing wasn’t curious, but Zhou Chuyu sure was.
“I asked, but she wouldn’t say, so I didn’t give her your contact details.”
Qi Yanjing put down the spray bottle and glanced at him. “Aren’t you the one who doesn’t like Shen Zhi? Why are you so interested now?”
Zhou Chuyu clicked his tongue. “That’s a different matter.”
“She’s not going to bring anything good my way.” He just wanted her to leave his world and stop spreading rumors.
“True,” Zhou Chuyu said. Originally, Shen Zhi had nothing but ill intentions toward Qi Yanjing, trying to use him to get what she wanted.
Her thoughts were rather naive.
After a long pause, Qi Yanjing spoke in a low voice, “If she dares to spread lies in front of Zhixian again, I won’t let her live as comfortably as she does now.”
If she was looking for trouble, then it seemed she was tired of an easy life and was seeking some excitement. Fine, he could provide that.
Let her experience a hard reset—hell mode.
Zhou Chuyu looked at him, and while Qi Yanjing’s tone wasn’t exactly cold, it still made one shiver. His words were the kind that carried weight, with the pressure of someone in a higher position.
It was no wonder Qi Yanjing would say this—spreading lies in front of his wife was truly despicable.
Zhou Chuyu leaned against his desk, crossing his arms and continuing to chat with him.
He always liked to talk to Qi Yanjing, especially since their school days. If Qi Yanjing had a good night’s sleep, he would exchange a few words with him, but if he hadn’t slept well, he wouldn’t say a word and would keep a gloomy expression. But Zhou Chuyu would still keep talking.
Qi Yanjing was blessed with good looks, and many people pursued him in school. Later, when he became a teacher, even more students chased after him—all thanks to his appearance.
Of course, Zhou Chuyu also had admirers.
But they really didn’t want to be liked by the school’s students… some of them were too fanatical, and the things they did actually scared both him and Qi Yanjing.
“Remember that lecture next Monday from the Financial Department? They invited our school’s excellent graduate from the finance department. I’ve heard they’ve tried to invite him multiple times, but he’s never come. But this time, they actually managed to get him.”
Zhou Chuyu glanced at Qi Yanjing, who was trimming the dead leaves from his plants, and continued, “The current chairman of Huayi Group is Gu Yuchen.”
Suddenly, Qi Yanjing paused, his gaze darkening.
Gu Yuchen.
That despicable bastard!
“But I heard yesterday that it’s been postponed. Apparently, President Gu is sick, so it’s been delayed by a few days.”
Qi Yanjing remembered seeing Gu Yuchen laughing and talking with his ex, and he sneered. “He’s perfectly fine, isn’t he?”
Zhou Chuyu was confused by his vague response. “Who’s fine?”
“Nothing.”
Zhou Chuyu: “…” Damn, do you think I’m deaf?
Of course, Zhou Chuyu had learned to smile through it all. Qi Yanjing was always like this—irritating.
“My dad mentioned him too. He said Gu Yuchen is really skilled, one of the best of the younger generation.”
Zhou Chuyu’s family had some business background and was well-versed in the business world.
“Speaking of the Gu family of Huayi, we can’t forget the Qi family of Yunheng International. The current head of Yunheng, Qi Yaochuan, rarely appears in public. He took over Yunheng more than a decade ago, but it’s a bit strange. He was supposed to take over the family business, but instead, he founded his own new group, Honghe, which is now just as successful as Yunheng. Is he trying to juggle both?”
Qi Yanjing pretended not to hear the rest, but unusually responded to the gossip, “Gu Yuchen isn’t worthy.”
“Do you have some kind of issue with Gu Yuchen?” Zhou Chuyu asked, puzzled. “But that doesn’t make sense. You’re the kind of person who hates getting involved in others’ business. How could you have a conflict with him?”
It seemed like an unlikely scenario.
Qi Yanjing didn’t respond. He knew that Gu Yuchen’s purpose in coming to this lecture was quite clear. His motives were too obvious.
“Boss, I won’t be coming tomorrow,” Xiao Bai said as she changed her clothes and addressed Wen Zhixian.
Wen Zhixian, who had been busy in the back, clapped her hands when she heard the voice. “Alright, I understand.”
She then took a small gift box from her bag and handed it to Xiao Bai. “You’ve been here for two years. I want to give you a little gift.”
Xiao Bai froze for a moment, staring at the gift box for several seconds.
Wen Zhixian gently pressed the gift box into her hands. “Take it. See if you like it.”
Xiao Bai opened the box but immediately closed it again and handed it back to Wen Zhixian, looking a bit anxious. “Boss, this is too much. I can’t accept it.”
“When you give a gift, you can’t take it back,” Wen Zhixian replied. “I don’t know your situation, but I hope you’ll be able to do what you want in the future. The road may be dark now, but light will come. I wish you a bright future.”
She was a few years older than them, and she felt she had to give them some hope.
Xiao Bai suddenly began to cry, holding the box in her hands.
She wiped her tears away and smiled at Wen Zhixian. “Thank you, boss. I’ll definitely do that.”
After sending Xiao Bai off, Wen Zhixian rewrote the job posting and closed her computer. She stretched her back and picked up her phone. There were several friend request notifications.
She knew immediately that it was from Gu Yuchen. The verification message read:
【I want to see you.】
【Chaomu wasn’t sent by me. She just happened to bump into me at the hospital. Please don’t misunderstand. Can you come see me? It hurts so much. I really miss you.】
She had blocked Gu Yuchen’s personal number, but now he was using his work account to send friend requests.
How dare he? Yesterday, she had gone to see him because Aunt Zhao begged her, but he ate and drank happily and then targeted Qi Yanjing.
He was so used to being on top that he didn’t care about anyone else’s feelings.
He didn’t understand.
She chose to ignore him. She didn’t block this number. Gu Yuchen was persistent, and if she blocked him again, he’d find another way to send messages. She didn’t want him looking for her.
Now that Li Chaomu had returned, she just hoped they’d make up quickly and lock it down.
She would swallow the key herself!
She was just thinking about what to have for dinner when Qin Zhaoli called her. He said he had just finished his work and would join her for a meal.
The restaurant wasn’t far away, so she arrived first, ordered, and waited for Qin Zhaoli.
Suddenly, she saw a familiar figure—Li Chaomu.
She had just been thinking about her a few minutes ago, and she hadn’t expected to run into her.
Li Chaomu saw her too and walked straight over to sit down across from her.
She smiled at Wen Zhixian. “Zhixian, it’s been a long time. I barely got to talk to you yesterday before you left.”
Wen Zhixian took a quick look at her. The current Li Chaomu really did seem like someone you’d want to protect.
But for some reason, Wen Zhixian didn’t feel a bit of goodwill toward her.
In the past, Gu Yuchen always brought Li Chaomu around her. Did he enjoy seeing her try so hard to pretend to be happy for them, even though she was clearly upset?
Gu Yuchen would show up with her in front of Wen Zhixian, while Li Chaomu wasn’t shy about being intimate with Gu Yuchen in public.
Wen Zhixian used to think of Li Chaomu as straightforward, but now, she wasn’t so sure.
