Professor Qi, Let’s Fake a Marriage Chapter 55

Chapter 55: Go Meet My Godparents When You Have Time

Perhaps it will lead to business, completely unrelated to the life I have now.

But things have already happened, and now all I feel is that the simplest, most peaceful life is the best.

Life is life, no matter how it goes. A steady, uneventful life is already a blessing.

Wen Zhixian used a tissue to wipe the tombstone, and there wasn’t a speck of dust on it.

It seemed that Qi Yanjing must have cleaned it when he came yesterday. There were also LEGO figures placed in front of the tomb, and the flowers from yesterday were starting to wilt.

After staying at the top of the mountain for a while, they finally left the cemetery.

In the car.

“Zhixian.”

Qi Yanjing called her name, and Wen Zhixian turned to look at him.

His voice was low and hoarse, but with a gentle tone. “When we have some time, let’s go meet my godfather and godmother.”

Wen Zhixian was momentarily surprised. She hadn’t known he had godparents.

“Okay, just let me know when you pick a time.”

She thought about it for a moment, and after visiting the cemetery, the mention of godparents might… mean they were Xie Daoran’s parents.

Qi Yanjing continued to explain, “My godfather and godmother are Daoran’s parents. Daoran and I grew up together, and after the kidnapping incident, they had just experienced the loss of their son. I took the initiative to become their godchild.”

Wen Zhixian understood the reason. After such an event, it was natural for them to be afraid of anything else happening to him, especially after the loss of a child. They would be even more fearful of that.

He parked the car, and they entered the mall.

Qi Yanjing pushed the shopping cart beside her. “What do you want for lunch? I’ll cook for you.”

“Wow, I get to order?” Wen Zhixian teased with a smile.

He placed his hand on the shopping cart, reaching out to touch her cheek. “I can’t treat anyone badly, especially not you.”

“I want some sour soup with beef and tomato fish slices.” She had just had his sweet and sour ribs a couple of days ago, so she didn’t need that today.

Qi Yanjing nodded. “Alright, let’s go buy the ingredients.”

Although he didn’t know how to make the tomato fish slices, there would definitely be a recipe for it.

They also added some crispy fried pork and two vegetable dishes, ensuring a balanced and perfect meal.

They bought the fish and asked the shopkeeper to clean it for them.

His phone, tucked inside his coat, vibrated a few times. He took it out and glanced at the contact name.

He leaned toward Wen Zhixian and whispered, “I’ll take a call.”

“Okay,” she replied.

She took over the shopping cart while waiting for the shopkeeper to clean the fish.

It was too noisy here, so Qi Yanjing walked to a quieter spot to answer the call.

“Sis.”

The woman on the other end of the line replied, “Yanjing, did you go to see Daoran again this morning?”

“Yeah, I went with Zhixian.”

She was silent for a moment before lightly laughing. “I thought you weren’t feeling well again. Glad to hear you’re fine.”

She had heard from her brother that his sleep had improved a lot lately.

“We’re all good.” He looked over at Wen Zhixian, his gaze originally deep and unemotional, but when he looked at her, it became incredibly tender.

His sister continued, “Find a time to let Zhixian meet us and have a meal together. We should all meet.”

“We’re planning to, meet my godfather and godmother.”

She chuckled on the other end of the line. “Didn’t you tell my parents about the marriage? We were discussing how to meet that night. It feels like a secret meeting.”

She sighed, “I know, everyone’s scared, afraid something might happen again. Even though we’re all adults now, those kinds of shadows can last a lifetime.”

“Alright, let me know when you’re coming back. I’ve got a meeting to attend. Talk later.”

Qi Yanjing ended the call, putting his phone back in his pocket, and walked towards Zhixian.

Wen Zhixian took the fish from the shopkeeper and placed it into the shopping cart by holding the top of the bag with her fingers.

Qi Yanjing came over, taking the shopping cart from her hands.

He noticed that she had placed her hand delicately in front of her nose and sniffed. Her brows furrowed slightly, and she seemed a bit nauseous, so she quickly lowered her hand. She rubbed her fingertips a few times, as if trying to get rid of the smell.

She looked up at him with her bright, sparkling eyes. “Did you finish the call?”

Qi Yanjing nodded slightly. “Yes, I’m done.”

She walked beside him, saying, “I prefer to buy pre-marinated fish slices.”

“But fresh fish is healthier.”

“My mom says the same. That’s why I rarely buy fish. My parents usually clean it and bring it to me, or they cook it for me. Unless I really crave fish, then I’ll buy it myself.”

Like that time she suddenly wanted fish head tofu soup, so she went to buy fish.

Wen Zhixian hooked her arm around his and spoke in a sweet voice, “Actually… I just want to eat tomato fish, but I don’t want to cook it myself. I really can’t stand the fishy smell. It makes me want to vomit.”

Qi Yanjing leaned slightly, whispering in her ear, “I’ll make it for you in the future.”

As he leaned in, Wen Zhixian stood on tiptoe and kissed his face quickly. In the middle of the crowd, it was just a brief touch, as if nothing had happened.

Qi Yanjing raised an eyebrow slightly. “No rush. We’ll continue at home.”

Wen Zhixian hummed lightly. “You’re being naughty.”

They walked ahead toward the fresh produce section.

The whole scene was witnessed by Gu Yuchen.

He clenched his fist, his eyes cold as ice. How could he not hate, how could he not be jealous?

It should be him walking beside her, not some other man.

“Yuchen, thank you for coming shopping with me today. Everything’s changed so much in the past few years. Otherwise, I wouldn’t even know who’s with whom.” Li Chaomu pushed the cart, filled with food and daily necessities, giving off a very domestic vibe.

Not hearing Gu Yuchen respond, she called out, “Yuchen?”

She followed his gaze and froze.

The figure she saw was Wen Zhixian.

She was back, but Gu Yuchen’s focus wasn’t completely on her anymore. Li Chaomu felt extremely dissatisfied, but she dared not act out in front of him after what she had done earlier.

But she was certain that Gu Yuchen still liked her—it was just a matter of time.

She still wanted to know how much of a place she had in his heart, considering she had been gone for several years and he had dated Wen Zhixian.

She wanted to know who mattered more to him—her or Wen Zhixian…

Gu Yuchen heard her and turned to look at her.

Li Chaomu was startled by his gaze. He had never looked at her like that before…

He lowered his eyes and coldly spoke, “Let’s go.”

He turned and walked away without following her. If he looked any longer, he felt like he might run over and fight the other man.

But he also didn’t want to see himself on the trending news tomorrow, as the Huayi executive fighting someone.

Yet his mind couldn’t stop replaying the image of Zhixian tiptoeing to kiss that man. She had once done that to him too, wrapped her arm around his and kissed his face, but he didn’t respond. She knew he didn’t like it, and that was the end of it…

But what about just now? Zhixian kissed that man, and that man must have whispered something dirty in her ear. The way she responded to him, her delicate demeanor, stung his eyes like a sharp knife.

Everything was supposed to be his.

He let out a heavy sigh, and his heart ached.
