Chapter 104: Gentle Human x Fierce Wolf Beast 16
Jian Tong looked at Xi Jing with a complicated expression, his long, curled eyelashes fluttering slightly.
He sighed helplessly, pressing his hand to his forehead. “Ning Si, if we leave Xi Jing alone, he’ll end up as an experimental subject on the operating table, won’t he?”
Ning Si fell silent for a moment. Being as clever as he was, he could deduce from Jian Tong’s earlier words that Xi Jing’s situation wasn’t as carefree as it seemed on the surface.
Pursing his lips, he said softly, “Being a pureblood human will draw countless eyes on him, and there will inevitably be some extreme researchers among them.”
Xi Jing grew more and more confused as he listened, trembling as he asked, “What are you two talking about? What experiments? What operating table?” Since he had crossed over, he had been under Luo Yi’s protection and had no idea what humans meant to the beast world.
All he knew was that pureblood humans were extremely rare and that all beastmen adored them. He had been thoroughly enjoying this life of stardom, basking in the limelight.
He had been desperate for fame and fortune, almost to the point of madness. Now that he had finally gotten his wish in this era, why would he care about anything else?
“I can’t tell if you’re truly stupid or just pretending to be,” Ning Si sneered, his gaze sharp as a blade, cutting straight into Xi Jing’s heart.
“Have you even looked at the history of this era? Beastmen evolved from humans. Human experimentation isn’t exactly a secret here.”
Jian Tong twirled his fingers lightly. “Do you know who Luo Yi really is? In the business world, he’s known for never lifting a finger unless there’s something in it for him.”
“Do you think he loves you? Or is it the commercial value you bring him that he truly loves?”
A pureblood human like Xi Jing—stupid, easily satisfied, and easily manipulated—was a rare find. Luo Yi had stumbled upon him, so how could he not take advantage?
Xi Jing’s face turned pale as he clenched his fists in disbelief.
He thought back to everything Luo Yi had done to him: forbidding him from wandering off, constantly questioning him about his past, and drawing blood under the guise of medical checkups…
All done under the pretense of love.
He looked up at his former friends, now dressed as beastmen, and felt his blood run cold. His expression grew increasingly stiff, teetering on the edge of collapse.
“No, it can’t be… You’re lying to me!”
Neither Jian Tong nor Ning Si paid him any mind. In fact, they even took a couple of steps back, as if he were some kind of nuisance.
“Crazy. Absolutely insane.”
Ning Si tilted his head, looking at Jian Tong. “So, what now? Do we stick to the original plan and leave him here, or do we show him the true nature of the beastmen’s world?”
Jian Tong raised an eyebrow. “He’s still a fellow human after all. Of course, he should know the harsh reality of this world.”
Life wasn’t a fairy tale, and it was time for Xi Jing to wake up.
Ning Si’s lips curved into a slight smile. “We really are on the same wavelength, aren’t we?”
Jian Tong stood in front of the nearly broken Xi Jing, his slender fingers brushing over his cuff, his posture casual yet exuding an inexplicable elegance.
“I’ll give you a chance to face reality. After that, you’ll need to make a choice.”
“Either you leave the way you came and face the beasts of this world on your own,” he said, his lips curling into a smirk as he looked at Xi Jing’s pale face. “Or you abandon your identity as a pureblood human and live in this world as Xi Jing the beastman.”
He would only give Xi Jing one chance to choose. If he missed it, there wouldn’t be a second.
As for Xi Jing’s mess, Jian Tong couldn’t care less.
Ning Si fiddled with the badminton racket in his hand, his expressionon his face.
“Are you really going to help him avoid being manipulated?”
Jian Tong glanced sideways at him. “Ning Si, do you understand the concept of ‘when the lips are gone, the teeth will be cold’?”
“If he becomes a madman’s experiment, who’s to say we won’t be next?” He looked deeply at Ning Si. “I don’t like Xi Jing. In fact, I despise him. But in the end, he’s still a human.”
A human, not a beastman!
Ning Si’s face twisted for a moment. “Calling Xi Jing stupid is an understatement.”
“He revealed his identity as soon as he arrived, without even trying to understand the situation first.”
He truly had no sense of survival instinct. Calling him stupid was an insult to the word “stupid.”
If Xi Jing died, it wouldn’t be a big loss. But if it affected them, it would be beyond foolish.
“…” Xi Jing shrunk back, regretting his earlier impulsive actions.
He had been so consumed by love and ambition that he had forgotten the dangers of this different world and overlooked many details in his life.
“I… I didn’t know it would be like this…”
He stammered out an explanation, but Ning Si’s eyes only grew fiercer.
“You didn’t know? I think you were too busy indulging in your own delusions!” Ning Si didn’t hold back. “Are you new to this world? Did you think those big bosses were idiots? With your lousy acting skills and lack of talent, you thought you could fool everyone and manipulate them at will?”
Every boss had their own schemes. Did Xi Jing really think beastmen were mindless brutes who could be easily tricked?
Arrogant and self-important.
Both he and Jian Tong had faced life-and-death trials as soon as they arrived. Even after being saved, they remained vigilant, trying to blend in rather than flaunting their identities.
No matter how rare and precious pureblood humans were, they were no match for the greed and selfishness of some beastmen.
One misstep, and it would be the end.
No one wanted to be a lamb to the slaughter. Everyone wanted to live.
Xi Jing broke down in tears, his entire being radiating sadness and despair.
“I was wrong… I’m sorry…”
Ning Si had no sympathy for Xi Jing, the fool who had nearly gotten them all killed. He turned his head away, refusing to even look at him.
Jian Tong didn’t accept Xi Jing’s apology either. This whole act of crocodile tears was as fake as it could be. If Xi Jing hadn’t felt his life was in danger, he wouldn’t have apologized to them.
While Luo Yi and the others might have had ulterior motives, Xi Jing wasn’t entirely innocent either.
A fool paired with a venomous beastman—what a perfect match!
Xi Jing lowered his head, his eyes red. “I want to live. I want to live as a beastman.”
Jian Tong glanced at him. “Are you sure? You don’t want to think about it some more?”
Xi Jing clenched his fists. “No, I believe you don’t want me dead.”
Jian Tong studied him for a moment.
“Fine. You’ll come with me for now.” He turned to Ning Si. “Ning Si, help him change into beastman attire and have him read up on the history of the past few hundred years.”
If he’s stupid, he should at least read more.
Ning Si nodded. “Got it.”
No matter how much he disliked Xi Jing, if the guy really ended up as a lab rat for dissection, his morally sound heart couldn’t bear it.
After all, he was still human. He couldn’t just stand by and watch a fellow human become an experiment.
But the thought of having to continue dealing with Xi Jing left a sour taste in his mouth.
Ning Si glared at Xi Jing with disdain. “Jian Tong and I will only protect you for a while, not forever. You’ll need to stand on your own eventually.”
With that, he walked away, unwilling to spend another second looking at the infuriating Xi Jing.
Jian Tong watched Ning Si board the aircraft, then looked at the battered Xi Jing. Sighing, he dragged Xi Jing along with him as they left.
