Chapter 30: The Wise Jinshi x The Obsessed Emperor 09
Yun Mansion, Main Courtyard.
Mrs. Yun, fanning herself with a round fan, casually looked at the three people in front of her.
“Yun Huai, are you really leaving the mansion?”
Yun Huai stood in the courtyard, with an old woman and a young man behind him.
He said calmly, “I’m leaving. Zhang Mama and Zhang Ping are coming with me.”
“I hope you can let me redeem them and return their indentures to them.”
It sounded absurd, but it was true. Zhang Mama and Zhang Ping were technically his servants, but their indentures were held by the mistress of the house. Even his birth mother, Lan Niang, didn’t have them.
Mrs. Yun stared at Yun Huai in confusion, her fingers curling slightly. “Do you know what this means?”
Yun Huai nodded slightly. “I know.”
“Once I leave the Yun Mansion, it means I’m giving up the family’s support. I’ll no longer enjoy the benefits of being the eldest son of the Yun family. I might even anger my father and be disowned by the family.”
Mrs. Yun stopped fanning herself and frowned, staring at Yun Huai, who was determined to leave.
“Since you know, you should know that leaving now won’t benefit you.”
Although she didn’t want Yun Huai, the eldest illegitimate son, to rise above her, she hadn’t thought of kicking him out of the house.
And his decision not only put him in a difficult position but also made her conflicted. After all, Yun Huai was the eldest illegitimate son of the Yun family, a grown man. How could she easily let him leave?
Yun Huai raised his phoenix eyes and smiled lightly. “Madam, although I am my father’s eldest son, he doesn’t favor me, and my brothers and sisters don’t accept me.”
“Now that I’m voluntarily leaving, it’s a win-win situation for you and my brothers and sisters.”
“I don’t want the Yun family’s connections or wealth.”
He said decisively, “I will earn what I want myself. I don’t need the support or protection of my father or the family.”
Mrs. Yun’s fingers tightened around her fan. She felt an indescribable complexity. It was as if the Yun family had blocked his path to success, or as if he had never cared about the Yun family.
The wealth and prestige she had fought tooth and nail for were just fleeting clouds and shifting sands in Yun Huai’s eyes.
Mrs. Yun remained silent for a while, then finally conceded. She instructed Yang Mama, who stood beside her, “Bring Zhang Mama and Zhang Ping’s indentures.”
After all, the old master didn’t care about Yun Huai. He was just an invisible illegitimate son.
Let him go!
“Yes, Madam.” Yang Mama went to the back room and took two indentures from the box where Mrs. Yun kept her important items.
A moment later, the two indentures, which had been kept hidden, were in Yun Huai’s hands.
Mrs. Yun said in a deep voice, “I’m giving you the indentures, but I hope you never come back.”
She didn’t care how talented Yun Huai was, nor did she care how far he could go. She only knew that once he left, he shouldn’t think about coming back.
Yun Huai nodded slightly. “Of course. The Yun Mansion is no longer my home.”
It couldn’t hold back his future anymore.
He handed the silver and the lease agreement to Yang Mama, who stood beside Mrs. Yun, and left without a backward glance, taking Zhang Mama and Zhang Ping with him.
Mrs. Yun watched him go, sighing lightly. “What a pity. He gave up the family business himself. I can’t be blamed for this.”
She had originally planned to use Yun Shu to ruin him, but she hadn’t expected Yun Shu to be so useless. She had actually let him escape and take the palace exams.
As she was thinking about how to deal with him, he had left on his own. It saved her the trouble of getting her hands dirty and committing sins.
“If he wants to leave, then let him leave cleanly.”
She looked at the maidservant. “Yang Mama, when the old master comes back, have him come to my courtyard. I have something to discuss with him.”
Yang Mama bowed her head. “This servant understands.”
It seemed like Madam wanted to cut off the eldest young master’s last lifeline to the Yun family.
