Chapter 9 – The Playboy Second Young Master × The Domineering Female CEO (Part 9)
The two of them were enjoying a loving and comfortable life. Meanwhile, as Gu Yin’s designs continued to impress, word of his employment at Nanming Corporation eventually reached both families.
Nan’s father was very pleased with Gu Yin’s work. Especially since his designs had brought huge profits to the company, he held his son-in-law in high esteem. He not only proposed arranging the wedding as soon as possible, but also stated that once they were married, he would allocate shares of the Nan Corporation to Gu Yin.
However, Gu Yin’s father suddenly began to have second thoughts. He repeatedly called Gu Yin, demanding to know why he had never told the family about his talent.
Gu Yin felt helpless. Every day, he would complain to Nan Ming, “I mean, wasn’t it that old man who insisted on sending me out to marry into someone else’s family? And now he’s blaming me for it!”
Nan Ming gently stroked his soft, fluffy hair and comforted him, “Your father’s just looking out for you. He wanted you to settle down and live a better life. He’s angry because you kept it from him, which led him to make a decision he now regrets.”
“That wasn’t a wrong decision at all! Hmph, if he regrets it, that’s his problem. I’m not going to care,” Gu Yin said, lifting his head and rubbing against Nan Ming’s collar.
Nan Ming chuckled at his childish tone, but then quickly became serious. She suddenly remembered that her mother’s death anniversary was approaching. Looking solemnly at Gu Yin, she said, “My mother’s death anniversary is coming up. Will you go with me to visit her?”
Gu Yin sat up and kissed her forehead in reassurance, firmly replying, “Of course I will.”
Every year on her mother’s death anniversary, Nan Ming refused to let her father participate. She believed he was unworthy of standing before her mother’s grave. So, on that day every year, Nan’s father would lock himself alone in the villa.
Early in the morning, Nan Ming and Gu Yin bought hibiscus flowers—her mother’s favorite—and the fruits she loved to eat, and made their way to her grave.
Staring at the gentle smile on her mother’s photo, Nan Ming suddenly felt overwhelmed with sadness. She reached out and gently touched the photo. With tears brimming in her eyes but trying her best to smile, she said, “Mom, I’ve come to see you. This year, I’m not alone. I’ve brought your son-in-law. Your daughter has found someone she wants to spend her life with.”
Hearing this, Gu Yin crouched in front of the tombstone and softly said to her mother, “Mom, if I may call you that—please rest assured. I will treat Nan Ming well, take good care of her, and make sure she is happy for the rest of her life.”
Nan Ming glanced at Gu Yin, smiled warmly, and said, “Can you wait in the car for a bit? I want to talk to my mother alone.”
Gu Yin gave her a comforting hug, draped his coat over her shoulders, and nodded. “Alright, I’ll be waiting in the car.”
After Gu Yin left, Nan Ming touched her mother’s photo and sat in front of the grave. She spoke softly about everything that had happened recently. “Mom, you know, ever since I became an adult, I’ve never let Dad come visit you. I don’t know if you blame me for that.”
Her voice trembled slightly. “I still can’t forgive him. If he hadn’t cheated, would the three of us have stayed together as a family? Would I have known what it was like to have a mother’s love in my childhood?”
She wiped away her tears and pointed in the direction Gu Yin had gone.
“You saw that handsome young man just now, right? That’s your son-in-law. He treats me so well. He’s always there when I need him. Honestly, I never believed in love. I always thought I’d never meet someone I’d fall for in this life. But he made me believe it was possible. So I want to try and walk this road with him.”
“Don’t be fooled by how silly he seems…”
Nan Ming talked with her mother for a long time before she finally came out. Gu Yin had been quite worried about her emotional state, but when he saw her walking back looking relieved and at ease, he suddenly felt this trip had been more than worth it.
He handed her the warm water he had prepared earlier. As the heat spread through her body, Nan Ming felt a deep sense of comfort. She smiled and said to Gu Yin, “Let’s get married.”
Gu Yin hadn’t expected such joy to come so suddenly. He was stunned for a moment. Then, realizing what she said, he immediately grabbed her hand and said excitedly, “Yes!”
They each informed their families. Nan’s father was overjoyed, smiling so much that he couldn’t stop. He kept urging the two of them to have children quickly, claiming he was still young and had nothing better to do, so he could help raise the kids.
Nan Ming knew her father was simply too lonely. Perhaps this was his karma.
The Gu family, on the other hand, reacted very differently. Gu’s father, already filled with regret, now found it even harder to accept as his youngest son eagerly rushed off to join another family.
Gu’s mother, who already doted on her youngest son, was furious when she learned that the old man from the Nan family planned to compete with her over the grandchildren. She was so upset she wouldn’t let Gu’s father into the bedroom for days.
Meanwhile, Xixi was ecstatic about her little uncle’s marriage. She absolutely adored her new little aunt, and every time Nan Ming visited the Gu family, Xixi would cling to her, act cute, and even pat her chest to swear she’d protect her future little brother or sister.
“Is there a little brother or sister in your belly now?” Xixi asked, lying on Nan Ming’s lap with her chubby cheeks puffed up like a steamed bun.
“Not that fast,” Gu Yin replied, pinching Xixi’s round cheek.
“Little Uncle, that’s not okay!” Xixi frowned and even nodded firmly to herself.
Gu Yin was stunned. “Where did you even learn that stuff, you little rascal?”
Xixi stood her ground. “I’m not little, and I’m not talking nonsense!”
Gu Yin narrowed his eyes. “Where did you even hear that?”
Xixi counted on her fingers and then whispered into Gu Yin’s ear, “One night I got up to find Mommy, and she was saying, ‘No, you can’t. Are you not capable or what?’ So it must be that Daddy isn’t capable—that’s why I don’t have a little brother or sister!”
Gu Yin was absolutely shocked by this three-year-old’s words. Big brother and sister-in-law really needed to be more careful. He made a mental note to be extremely cautious when he had kids of his own.
The wedding between the Gu and Nan families was grand, with many prominent figures in attendance. Nan Ming chose a traditional Chinese wedding, and both she and Gu Yin designed their wedding outfits themselves, pouring their love and sincerity into every detail.
After the wedding, Nan’s father fulfilled his promise and handed over the Nan Corporation to Nan Ming. Gu Yin became the director of her design department. The two worked in perfect harmony. Gu Yin’s creations became wildly popular among young people both at home and abroad.
Two years later, their daughter, Nan Yu, was born.
