Chapter 10: The 1960s when Labor was Paramount
It was because the original host’s mother, Liu Ying, had come over and reached out to touch the baby’s face.
“Lin Muqing, I came to see the children. We need to ask for money; Dad has really changed.”
“Oh.” Lin Muqing stood by, watching closely, preventing any unusual incidents.
Unexpectedly, the baby did not like her, and with a direct slap, Liu Ying’s face turned red and swollen.
“Ah! Monster, this is a monster! It hurts! I’m swollen!”
“Smack!”
“Don’t misbehave; or I’ll smash your mouth!” Lin Muqing first threatened Liu Ying with a stern glance and then slapped her.
The precious baby, born after eight months of pregnancy, must not be ruined by rumors.
“The truth is your face was already swollen. I don’t want to hear anything bad outside; don’t let the children be affected.”
Liu Ying’s face turned pale, and she instantly fell silent, realizing that even the village chief could be problematic, and Gu Yu was not an easy person to deal with—she couldn’t act recklessly, knowing that she might not be of help to the situation.
“Muqing, don’t be angry; I didn’t mean to say that” Liu Ying said, but her face was reddened.
“The child is innocent; if you have any malice, why would they hit you?” Lin Muqing stated coldly. “There will be no return from those who hurt us; every time Lin Yaozu struck me, the children were right beside me. If they were given a chance to read, they would remember every word I said.”
Those words left Liu Ying with no rebuttal; the children were the life she held dear.
Normally, she wouldn’t have bothered with this mother. But Liu Ying had realized the gravity of her son’s situation; if it were not for Gu Yu’s power, she knew they would have no idea how to raise their children.
“I’m not messing around. Dad wasn’t messing around either, so please don’t harm your brother.” Liu Ying covered her face, extremely frightened; how could she not understand the consequence of her words?
“Let’s go.”
Liu Ying turned back three times, hoping to call for help, but Lin Muqing continued walking forward without turning back.
The original host had died; every time she hoped to save her child was already a thing of the past.
…
Once the people left, Lin hugged the baby and inspected his chubby face closely.
There was something strange about him.
“System, why does the baby have so much strength?”
[Host, the baby is not experiencing abnormalities. Divine-level pills in the cultivation world are rare; consuming them allows for the awakening of extraordinary talents. It’s normal for him to have more strength than ordinary people, right?]
“Indeed.” Lin Muqing affirmed this, realizing it was true.
Later that evening, Gu Yu returned.
“Does he have particularly strong strength?” Gu Yu asked, holding the chubby Gu Xi, whose long eyelashes fluttered with his bright, expressive eyes.
Gu Xi waved his tiny fist, making cooing sounds.
“Come on, clap your hands!”
Gu Xi followed suit and clapped with Gu Yu.
“Hmm, he really is strong.” Gu Yu chuckled lightly.
Gu Xi responded to his dad’s words about “protecting Mommy” with enthusiastic “mm-hmm” sounds, being very obedient.
“He really understands,” Lin Muqing couldn’t help but laugh upon hearing this.
Her tinkling laughter made all three babies laugh in unison.
“Qingqing is really cute.” Gu Yu could not help himself; he had never dared to smile like this before, lifting the corners of his lips shyly.
“What are the three treasures doing?”
Gu Youyou, lying in a rocking chair, had thick black hair at six months old, cutely blinking and grinning widely.
“Ma, ma, ma!” she called out to Lin Muqing. When she wasn’t satisfied, she scooted over with her short legs, grabbing the armrests of the rocking chair, her back swaying back and forth. “Milk, milk.”
“Hungry.”
Lin Muqing felt her heart melt and quickly scooped her up to feed her.
Gu Song was beside her, blowing bubbles, dancing around, enjoying himself, seemingly unaware of how much fun the others were having, blissfully delighted by the food Grandma prepared or by going for walks into the mountains.
“Let’s go; tonight, Grandma and Grandpa are sleeping over.”
…
After Gu Yu returned, Lin Muqing stood by the door, being pushed into the armchair, her long eyelashes fluttering, biting her lip.
“Ah Yu…”
Once she settled in, the tall man leaned down, enveloping her in his embrace, their breaths mingling.
A kiss.
Passionate and urgent.
Drops fell like rain.
