Chapter 10: Forced to Kneel at the Ancestral Hall
Lin Su was startled, stood up abruptly, and while walking out, anxiously asked, “What happened?”
Qin Yao followed, “She ate biscuits after washing her hair, and then she threw up.”
“Weren’t the biscuits all gone?”
“I had some left. Seeing that she was hungry, I gave her some.” Qin Yao felt that the biscuits he gave her were the cause of this, so a guilty expression appeared on his face.
Lin Su, anxious about Qin Ni, didn’t pay attention to his expression and asked again, “She threw up three times. Why are you telling me only now?”
“Isn’t throwing up normal? I used to throw up often, just not three times in a row.”
Lin Su frowned, “Throwing up isn’t normal, especially three times in a row. Next time this happens, you must tell me immediately.”
Seeing that Qin Yao didn’t answer and his face didn’t look good, she added, “I don’t mean to blame you. I’m just afraid that I won’t notice it, and you’re the one who noticed it first, so you reminded me.”
Hearing this, Qin Yao mumbled a low “Mm.”
When the two arrived at the yard, they saw Qin Ni sitting weakly on a chair, her back slumped against the back, her face pale, and her eyes vacant.
Lin Su was even more anxious when she saw this. She rushed over, picked her up, and walked out.
Qin Yao quickly followed.
Qin Keke also wanted to go, but Grandma Lin, who had chased after them, stopped him, “Good boy, don’t go. Your mother is taking your sister to see a doctor and can’t take care of you. Be good, wait at home with Grandma.”
Qin Keke didn’t want to, but they were already gone.
On the other side.
Carrying the somewhat heavy Qin Ni, Lin Su walked quickly for a long time. Lin Su’s body couldn’t take it anymore, sweat covered her forehead, and her steps involuntarily slowed down.
Seeing this, Qin Yao quickly took her over.
The two of them took turns carrying her, and when they finally arrived at the village clinic, they found that the clinic was closed.
Just as the two were flustered and helpless, a voice rang out.
“What’s wrong?”
Village head Lin Daqiang rode his bicycle over and, after seeing them, hurriedly asked.
Lin Su, as if seeing a savior, quickly asked for his help, “Third Uncle, this girl is sick, and the clinic is closed. Can you take us to the town hospital?”
Lin Daqiang saw that Qin Ni’s face was bloodless and quickly gestured for them to get on.
Lin Su held Qin Ni in the back, and Qin Yao sat on the bicycle’s crossbar.
Lin Daqiang often did farm work, so carrying an adult and two children was no pressure. He pedaled so fast that sparks were almost flying.
Half an hour later, they finally arrived at the town hospital. Lin Su quickly thanked Lin Daqiang.
Lin Daqiang knew that Lin Su’s health was poor, and Qin Yao was just a child and couldn’t do much, so he simply stayed behind, took Qin Ni, and ran to the doctor’s office.
After the doctor asked and examined her, he concluded that she needed an IV drip.
Hearing that she needed an IV drip, Qin Ni, who had been holding on, struggled, and Lin Daqiang, an adult man, almost couldn’t hold her.
Lin Su was afraid that she would act violently, so she quickly took her from Lin Daqiang’s arms, and gently comforted her, “Ni Ni, don’t be afraid, the injection is like an ant bite, it’ll be over in a second, be good.”
Lin Su’s voice was gentler than usual. Holding Qin Ni, she swayed gently and kept stroking her head.
Outsiders would definitely think they were mother and daughter, but that wasn’t the case.
Due to the violent struggle, Qin Ni’s nails accidentally scratched Lin Su’s neck, but Lin Su didn’t get impatient or angry, but patiently continued to comfort her.
Unusually gentle.
Sometimes, a biological mother isn’t this patient and gentle with her daughter, let alone a stepmother.
Did Mother ever comfort them like this?
They couldn’t remember.
Qin Yao watched from the side, and for some reason, his eyes felt particularly sore. He bit his lip tightly and turned his head away, refusing to look.
Qin Ni, sweating from struggling, gradually calmed down under Lin Su’s repeated “Ni Ni,” and finally only a slight sob remained.
Qin Ni cherished the warm embrace and forgot to resist Lin Su, while Lin Su, anxious about Qin Ni, also forgot to keep her distance.
After Qin Ni received the IV drip, Lin Su remembered that their distance had been too close, and Qin Ni hadn’t resisted.
This made Lin Su very happy. She wanted to touch Qin Ni’s head, but she was afraid that she would react and resist, affecting the infusion.
However, she tentatively sat by the bed. Seeing that Qin Ni didn’t react, she secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Qin Yao had been watching. Seeing Lin Su’s cautious appearance, his heart was filled with complexity.
Was she really a wicked stepmother?
Or was she just acting? But her acting was too realistic.
“Qin Yao, you stay with your sister. I’ll see your Third Grandpa off.” Lin Su saw that Lin Daqiang was about to leave, so she hurried out to thank him.
Lin Daqiang waved his hand and whispered, “What’s there to thank among family? But don’t be too good to them. You might encounter an ungrateful person.”
Lin Su smiled and didn’t refute, only saying, “They are all good children.”
Lin Daqiang knew what she meant and sighed helplessly before turning to leave.
Lin Su was afraid that Qin Ni would be thirsty, so she borrowed a cup from the nurse’s station to get hot water and put the three drops of spiritual spring water from her space into the cup.
After she left, Qin Yao, behind the door, hung his head with a complicated expression.
Are there really people who are so kind and beautiful?
Nurse’s station.
A middle-aged woman squinted her eyes and asked the nurse, “Hey, girl, Auntie wants to ask you something.”
The nurse looked at her impatiently, “Can’t you see I’m busy!”
The woman said good-naturedly, “I see, I’m just asking something. Is the girl you just admitted to the ward named Qin Ni?”
The nurse was very busy and wanted to get rid of her, so she said anxiously, “Yes, yes, yes, hurry up and go, don’t delay my work.”
After getting the answer she wanted, the woman immediately changed her face. With a “bang,” she slammed on the table in front of the nurse, “What’s your attitude? Is the slogan of serving the people written in vain? Believe it or not, I’ll report you!”
The woman’s fickle attitude angered the nurse. She was about to argue with her when she was stopped by her colleague.
Her colleagues advised her not to bother with this kind of person, and some were persuading the woman to leave quickly.
The woman glared at the nurse and left arrogantly, making the nurse quite angry.
The woman’s name was Chen Zhaodi. Because her daughter-in-law, who played well with her in the village, had given birth to a child, she had originally come to visit, but unexpectedly, she met Lin Su and the others, and even more unexpectedly, she saw Qin Ni hospitalized.
Because she had a good relationship with Qin’s mother, she didn’t even look at the people, and quickened her pace towards Qinjia Village.
When she arrived at Qinjia Village, Chen Zhaodi saw a group of villagers gathered at the entrance of the village, gossiping about Qin’s mother. After listening for a while, she frowned and continued to walk forward.
When she arrived at Qin Sui’s house, she entered the yard and saw Qin’s mother still eating raw sweet potatoes without a care in the world. She said indignantly, “Still eating? The villagers’ saliva is almost drowning you.”
Qin’s mother looked surprised, “Why are you here?”
After moving a stool for Chen Zhaodi, Qin’s mother replied, “Let them say what they want. Just don’t say it in my ear.”
Seeing her indifferent expression, Chen Zhaodi said speechlessly, “They’re saying that you’re heartless, saying that you can’t tolerate people and drove your daughter-in-law and grandsons out.”
“You have to take this seriously. Otherwise, what if Qin Sui hears it and believes it? Then it will be difficult for you to repair your relationship with him.”
Because of their good relationship, Qin’s mother had often told Chen Zhaodi about the messy things in her family, including this matter.
“Then what should I do?” Qin’s mother anxiously asked.
Chen Zhaodi: “Before I came, I saw your new daughter-in-law at the town hospital. She took Qin Ni to see a doctor. You didn’t see it. Qin Ni’s face was so pale, she must have been abused badly.”
“Before Qin Sui comes back, I think you should strike first. Don’t feel sorry for the phone call. Call him directly and say that your daughter-in-law deliberately took his three children away to abuse them.”
“There are witnesses and Qin Ni’s injuries. Your daughter-in-law won’t be able to argue.”
Qin’s mother frowned, “Is this method reliable? Also, was Qin Ni really sent to the hospital by my new daughter-in-law? What if Qin Ni doesn’t have any injuries…”
Chen Zhaodi didn’t ask in detail. Qin Ni being hospitalized due to abuse was just her guess. But seeing Qin’s mother doubting her, she felt that her kindness was treated with disdain. She said with a gloomy face, “If you don’t believe me, go see for yourself.”
Seeing her angry and about to leave, Qin’s mother quickly grabbed her, “I believe, I believe. Should I call Qin Sui now?”
“Of course, as soon as possible.”
So, without consulting Qin’s father, Qin’s mother decided to go with Chen Zhaodi to make a phone call.
Neither of them thought about the logic carefully. Since Lin Su abused Qin Ni, why would she send her to the hospital? Their minds were only filled with scheming against Lin Su.
There were only phones in town. Qin’s mother and Chen Zhaodi hurried there. She remembered Qin Sui’s military area phone number. After nervously dialing, the other side didn’t answer for a long time.
On the second call, the other side finally answered, but it wasn’t Qin Sui.
Qin’s mother wanted to hang up, but Chen Zhaodi whispered beside her, “It’s also good to let others tell Qin Sui. This way, more people will know and spread it. Then your daughter-in-law won’t be welcome when she goes to the military area, and you’ll feel relieved, right?”
Thinking about it, it was indeed a good idea. So, Qin’s mother added fuel to the fire and told the operator Lin Su’s bad things, and asked the operator to tell Qin Sui.
The operator was an upright soldier. Hearing that the deputy commander’s daughter was abused, he hung up the phone and went to tell Qin Sui.
He hurried out but was stopped by an enthusiastic aunt, “Ni Niu, the girl I told you about…”
“Auntie, I really don’t have time to date. Don’t stop me, I have urgent business to inform Deputy Commander Qin.”
“What’s the matter?”
Ni Niu anxiously blurted out, “Deputy Commander Qin’s daughter was abused by his new wife and sent to the hospital!”
The aunt widened her eyes in surprise and was about to ask further, but Ni Niu broke free from her hand and ran away.
The aunt was left alone, gossiping in place, wanting to know the follow-up but unable to hear it.
Feeling anxious, she thought that such shocking news should be known to others. Her eyes turned, and she walked towards the family quarters.
…
When Qin Sui heard this news from Ni Niu, his eyebrows were tightly furrowed.
“Deputy Commander Qin, are you going home?” Ni Niu cautiously asked.
Qin Sui nodded.
He had originally planned to go back after the marriage report came out, but now he had to go back earlier.
Ni Niu had said it was serious, so he was naturally worried about Ni Ni’s health.
Although Qin Sui didn’t believe that Lin Su was the kind of person who would abuse her stepdaughter, what if?
“If you move, the saline won’t go in, and you’ll have to get another injection. Be good, don’t move, I’ll feed you.”
In the hospital, Lin Su fed Qin Ni porridge, completely unaware that a storm was about to hit her.
Qin Ni had eaten too much and vomited, so Lin Su had to keep a close eye on her and control the amount she ate.
What was pleasing was that Qin Ni no longer resisted her as usual. What was worrying was that Qin Ni really loved to eat.
Lin Su thought that she could only drink porridge because she was sick, which would make her lose her appetite. But Qin Ni ate even the porridge with relish and still felt it wasn’t enough.
Lin Su didn’t dare to feed her more, afraid that she would throw up again.
After feeding her, Lin Su was about to take the bowl to wash it when she suddenly saw Qin Yao running in with a grim face.
“Grandma is here, and she brought several people!”
Before Lin Su could react, several people rushed into the ward. Qin’s mother, at the head, was furious. As soon as she saw Qin Ni with an IV drip, she started crying and wailing.
“Oh, my poor granddaughter, she was actually hospitalized by her wicked stepmother. Oh, God, why don’t you strike this poisonous woman with lightning!”
“Lin Su, you cruel and vicious bitch! Didn’t you say you would treat my granddaughter well? This is how you treat her?”
“Qin Sui is blind to marry such a heartless thing. I, her grandmother, can’t watch my granddaughter being abused like this. I’ll take my granddaughter back. As for you, kneel at the ancestral hall!”
Without giving Lin Su a chance to retort, Qin’s mother spoke sentence after sentence, and finally gestured for the aunts who came with her to restrain her.
She obviously wanted to forcibly drag her to the ancestral hall to kneel.
Everyone was against Lin Su. Even if she was healthy, she wouldn’t have any room to resist.
Lin Su was dragged and pulled away with her mouth covered.
