Chapter 29: Deng Lingling Gets Taken Down
Qin Sui’s face turned completely gloomy.
Deng Lingling, however, was not afraid at all, instead laughing at him, “Comrade Qin Sui, you should thank me. After all, I didn’t use my father’s power to force you to divorce and marry me.”
“I wanted to move you with my sincerity, believing you would turn back from the brink. But don’t make me wait too long.”
“You know, for someone like you who’s about to get married for the third time, only I don’t dislike you. You should be grateful.”
Qin Sui considered it nonsense, but she had one point right.
Besides his position as a deputy regiment commander, Qin Sui really didn’t have much to offer. He came from a rural background with no power or influence. Going up against Deng Lingling’s father was like an egg hitting a stone.
Lin Su and Gu Lin, who had rushed over, also heard this. Lin Su frowned, suddenly feeling a little sympathy for Qin Sui. Being targeted by this kind of person was like being pestered by a dung beetle.
Gu Lin, however, didn’t have many scruples. She spoke up for justice, launching into a verbal attack.
“Deng Lingling, you shameless thing, you think it’s amazing to bully people with your power, don’t you? Then I’ll have to ask Father Deng if he wants to force a promising young man to death!”
“My Brother Qin fights on the front lines to protect our country, but his back is stabbed by a so-called destroyer. Father Deng is unwilling to discipline his daughter, but I think someone has to!”
“Father Deng is just a division commander. Are you sure he can cover everyone’s mouths?”
“If any Tom, Dick, or Harry can come out and destroy a soldier’s marriage, the other military families will be heartbroken. If the families go on strike, even inciting the soldiers, leading to national security unrest, can someone like you, Deng Lingling, who is nothing, bear the responsibility?”
“No, you can’t. You’ll even harm your father. If he falls from power, guess how many people will want you dead?”
Gu Lin spoke more and more seriously, more and more viciously, and Deng Lingling’s face became whiter and whiter.
Lin Su watched from the side, secretly suppressing the upturn of her lips.
She really envied Gu Lin’s sharp tongue, always able to silence Deng Lingling.
If it were her… she probably wouldn’t have the same effect.
Qin Sui also stood idly by with his hands in his pockets, coldly watching Deng Lingling cry.
The nurses and doctors in the clinic were all quiet, pretending to be busy with their work, but actually eavesdropping.
They hadn’t met Deng Lingling, but they had heard rumors, after all, she pursued people enthusiastically and never hid it.
Now, being silenced and made to cry by Gu Lin, it was truly satisfying. They also wanted to have such a sharp tongue.
“Hey, I’m telling the truth. Don’t falsely accuse me because you’re crying. I have many witnesses, and I’ll tell Father Deng too if you do.” Gu Lin said with disgust when she saw Deng Lingling cry.
Deng Lingling cried even louder, “Wah!” As she ran out, she deliberately bumped into Gu Lin’s shoulder, causing her to stumble.
Lin Su quickly steadied her.
But Gu Lin laughed, “It’s okay to bump into someone. I made her cry, hahaha. She was actually made to cry. I’m amazing.”
If it weren’t for the cautious speech of this era, Lin Su would have given her a “bullshit” compliment.
Qin Sui showed a slight smile, his eyes on Lin Su, “How did you two get here?”
Gu Lin snatched the words, “Why else would we come? Of course, to catch an affair.”
Qin Sui suppressed his smile and looked at Gu Lin speechlessly, “What nonsense are you talking about again?”
Gu Lin giggled, “Just kidding.”
Qin Sui didn’t bother with her. As he walked out, he reached out and removed a piece of thread from Lin Su’s hair, hiding it in his palm, “I’m still busy, so I won’t see you back. Be careful on your way back.”
Gu Lin waved at his back, “Okay, brother. I guarantee I’ll safely escort our fragrant and soft sister-in-law home.”
Qin Sui didn’t reply but quickened his pace.
That girl Gu Lin always talked nonsense.
Lin Su’s face also turned slightly red. She touched her head. Had Qin Sui just touched her hair?
…
The incident of Deng Lingling being made to cry spread like wildfire. Gu Lin was also scolded by her father, Gu Jianjun, for it.
Just a scolding, nothing more.
After all, Gu Jianjun also spoiled her.
Because Deng Lingling’s parents weren’t around, no one could control her, and her actions became increasingly erratic over the years.
Many people didn’t like her, but because of Father Deng, they could only turn a blind eye.
Gu Jianjun also had some criticisms of Deng Lingling’s actions. He wanted to teach her a lesson, but considering the relationship between the two families, he could only pretend not to see it.
But this time, Deng Lingling had really gone too far. Who pursues someone like that? And she was pursuing someone who was already married.
Gu Jianjun was very optimistic about Qin Sui and usually took extra care of him. Deng Lingling actually threatened Qin Sui, relying on the fact that he was a poor boy from the countryside with no power or influence?
He still had to tell Father Deng to control his daughter and not ruin a promising young man.
Besides, his daughter was now good friends with Qin Sui’s wife. If she caused them to divorce, where would his daughter find such a like-minded female comrade to play with?
Feeling increasingly urgent, Gu Jianjun simply called Father Deng.
Only the two of them knew the content of the call. However, after that, Deng Lingling no longer pestered Qin Sui, but she hated Gu Lin and Lin Su.
Lin Su didn’t know about this, but even if she did, she wouldn’t care. At this moment, she was looking at the sprouting mung bean sprouts with surprise.
Finally, she could eat some fresh vegetables.
Qin Keke stood beside her, sucking his finger, curiously poking the mung bean sprouts with his chubby hand, “Eat.”
Lin Su smiled at him, “Want to eat?”
“Yeah.”
“Then we’ll stir-fry this today.” Lin Su carefully cut some, and Grandma Lin saw it and was happy when she took it out.
“They’ve sprouted.”
“Yes.”
“Then stir-fry them later and send some to those two kids.”
“Okay.”
After washing them, Lin Su took them into the kitchen to stir-fry. Qin Keke was now her shadow, following her wherever she went.
There weren’t many seasonings, but the stir-fry was fragrant enough.
With pickled vegetables, an egg drop soup, and steamed bread, this was enough for lunch.
Qin Keke was already proficient with chopsticks and ate without raising his head.
Lin Su felt a sense of accomplishment, “Grandma, doesn’t he seem to have gained some weight?”
Grandma Lin looked over. Because they lived together and saw each other every day, it was difficult to compare, but she still nodded, “He seems to have gotten a little fatter.”
Qin Keke didn’t care how they talked about him; he was focused on eating.
After the meal, Grandma Lin washed the dishes, and Lin Su took Qin Keke to send food to Qin Yao and the others. On the way, they met Gu Lin, who was idle, and she directly took them to school on her bicycle.
“I don’t know what to do after graduating from high school. My dad wants me to work at the supply and marketing cooperative, but I don’t want to go,” Gu Lin muttered.
Lin Su said, “Why don’t you learn to be a teacher? Your high school qualifications are enough.”
“No, no. I don’t have that much patience.”
Gu Lin thought for a moment and said, “I want to work at a state-run restaurant, but my dad won’t let me.”
“Why?”
“He’s afraid I’ll get too fat and no one will marry me.”
“By the way, Deng Lingling got a lesson.” Mentioning this, Gu Lin became excited.
Lin Su thought that she had been saying this, and it wasn’t good for her not to respond, so she asked, “Who taught her a lesson?”
“Her father, hahaha. My father called to complain.”
Lin Su also laughed.
Qin Keke didn’t know what they were laughing about, but he laughed along with them.
The bicycle was fast, and they arrived in a short while. As soon as Lin Su arrived at the school, Li Changjiang walked out of the office. He adjusted his glasses with his fingertip and said to Lin Su,
“Qin Yao’s parent, can we talk?”
Lin Su thought Qin Yao had caused trouble and quickly walked over.
“Qin Yao’s performance is acceptable, but Qin Ni still doesn’t communicate with others. She doesn’t answer the teacher’s questions or read along.” The young man’s voice was gentle, and he stared at Lin Su seriously.
Lin Su didn’t notice. Hearing this, she frowned, “Teacher Li, I’m sorry. Qin Ni has become introverted because of some things. Please take extra care of her.”
Suddenly being stared at by the woman’s gentle eyes, Li Changjiang paused, awkwardly turning his head, “We will.”
“Thank you.”
Because she was in a hurry to deliver the food, and Lin Su didn’t know what to say, she pulled Qin Keke to deliver the food to the two children.
Li Changjiang sighed as he looked at Lin Su’s back.
What a pity.
Gu Lin glanced at Li Changjiang and asked Lin Su, who was walking over, “Who was that?”
Lin Su: “Qin Yao’s homeroom teacher.”
Seeing Gu Lin staring, Lin Su thought she liked him and laughed, “Should I ask him if he’s married?”
Gu Lin shook her head, “You misunderstood. I think he doesn’t look like a good person.”
“How so?”
Gu Lin shook her head and didn’t say anything.
She mainly felt that Li Changjiang might be interested in Lin Su, after all, the look in his eyes just now wasn’t simple.
Brother Qin, that blockhead, didn’t know how to cherish such a beautiful wife. Don’t let someone else get there first, and then he’ll regret it.
Gu Lin thought she would find a chance to mention this to Qin Sui later.
…
When Qin Sui returned, he saw Lin Su sewing and thought she was making dresses again, so he didn’t pay attention until Lin Su finished and handed it to him. He realized it was his pants.
Lin Su had mended the torn part of his pants. You couldn’t tell unless you looked closely.
Were her mending skills so amazing?
Qin Sui wanted to thank her, but he felt it was too formal to say it out loud. While he hesitated, Lin Su had already gone back to her dresses.
Qin Sui had to swallow his thanks.
He caught sight of something moving furtively outside the yard. He went over to take a look, but saw no one.
It was already dark. Maybe he had seen wrong?
Qin Sui didn’t bother with it.
On the other hand, Zhao Cuifeng hid behind a rock, only daring to breathe when Qin Sui had gone inside.
Goodness, Qin Sui’s gaze scared her to death. It was a good thing she ran fast.
Thinking this, she hugged the thing in her arms tighter. After looking around and seeing no one, she quickly ran away.
Zhao Cuifeng was the most stingy person. The last time she was forced to give an expensive can of fruit to Lin Su’s family, it made her heartbroken.
The more she thought about it, the more she couldn’t swallow her anger. Whenever she had free time, she would wander around Lin Su’s house, thinking about how to get something back.
And now, she had finally found an opportunity.
Lin Su’s old hen wasn’t locked up, and the yard gate wasn’t closed. It was almost dark, and it was still foolishly outside, not going home, but wandering around, not knowing what to eat.
Zhao Cuifeng decisively lured it over with steamed bread. The hen was unprepared and came over to peck at it. She took this opportunity to cover the hen with her coat, tightly pinching its neck for fear that it would squawk.
Only when she was far away did she dare to take off her coat. The hen was lying on its side with its eyes closed, already dead.
It was fine if it was dead; she could make chicken soup to nourish her son. Zhao Cuifeng smiled happily and ran home with the dead hen.
