Chapter 15 : On-Site Assignment

The project with Yutou quickly moved forward, with everything well-organized. By Friday, all personnel and development schedules were arranged, and Lin Ran finally had a moment to relax. She made plans with Zhuo Ting to help her over the weekend.

Zhuo Ting had already heard that Lin Ran was busy with a project for Fu Xingjian’s company, and her curious heart couldn’t help but leap.

“Come to my house tonight!!! I want to hear all the gossip!!! I won’t sleep until I hear everything!!!”

Nine exclamation marks seemed to hang over Lin Ran’s head like a sword, and her temples throbbed.

“What gossip? Just the complaints of the working class.”

Zhuo Ting seemed to live on WeChat, replying instantly, “I’ll join in the complaints too!!! You must come!!!”

Lin Ran gave up, “Alright, as long as your little boyfriend isn’t at home.”

Zhuo Ting was dating a younger boyfriend who was still in college and occasionally stayed over at her house.

“Don’t worry, we broke up.”

Ah, well, it seemed like she had to go and hear the gossip.

After hanging up, Lin Ran returned to her work. Shortly after, a message came through the communication group with the client.

She clicked on it and read carefully, surprised.

“Considering the project development schedule, it is now required that your team send personnel on-site for development, with accommodations provided by our company. The on-site work will begin next Monday.”

Lin Ran immediately raised an objection, “This wasn’t discussed in the initial communications. This sudden request is difficult to coordinate internally.”

Mao Quanan replied: “It’s the company’s decision, and we can’t do anything about it. Please help us coordinate, Manager Lin.”

Lin Ran, feeling helpless, went to find Zhou Xu.

Zhou Xu, after hearing the situation, asked her, “What do you think of this?”

Lin Ran thought for a moment before answering, “It feels odd. It doesn’t align with the communication from yesterday. I’m not sure if this is a requirement from the group company or the fund company.”

The group company—could it be Fu Xingjian’s request?

It seemed Zhou Xu had thought of something too. His gaze lingered on Lin Ran for a moment before he calmly instructed, “The on-site employees will receive a monthly subsidy of 2,000 yuan. Please ask the team about their willingness to go on-site.”

Ah, there’s a subsidy! Lin Ran silently complained, “If I’d known, the willingness would’ve been much higher with the subsidy.”

As expected, when Lin Ran asked everyone, they all nodded enthusiastically at the mention of the extra 2,000 yuan subsidy.

She then remembered to ask Mao Quanan, “What are the conditions for accommodation?”

A few minutes later, images appeared in the group.

Wow, it was a four-star hotel right next to Yutou.

Lin Ran was completely exasperated, “Okay, we’ll report on-site next Monday.”

She then began preparing the materials for the on-site assignment, mainly contracts and personal ID cards for the project members. It wasn’t difficult but was quite tedious, and by the time she finished, most of the office workers had left for the day.

Seeing her still at her desk, Zhou Xu reminded her, “Go home early and rest. Your health is important.”

Lin Ran arrived at Zhuo Ting’s apartment complex, bought two bags of fruit, and took the elevator. As soon as the door opened, Zhuo Ting was there to greet her.

Zhuo Ting muttered, “Wasting money again.”

Lin Ran smiled, “It’s not a waste. It’ll all be in our stomachs soon.”

Although Lin Ran had grown up without parents, her grandmother’s love and education were just as nurturing as that of any child with two parents.

Her grandmother always said that whenever visiting anyone, it was important to bring something as a gesture. It was the most basic principle of maintaining good relationships.

For dinner, they had a small hotpot, which felt perfect in the chilly early days of April.

The hot steam rose from the pot, and Zhuo Ting’s curiosity couldn’t be contained any longer. “So, how are things with him?”

Lin Ran gave a helpless smile. “What’s there to say? It’s just a typical client-vendor relationship.”

“Ah?” Zhuo Ting was surprised. “You managed to get the Yutou project. I thought that was his way of compensating you.”

Lin Ran shook her head, taking a sip of her drink. “You’re overthinking it. Getting the Yutou project was thanks to my boss’s connections. It has nothing to do with me.”

Zhuo Ting rolled up her sleeves, fuming. “That jerk! He hasn’t even said ‘sorry’ to you yet! I’ll make sure you get justice!”
