“Re-Fall” Chapter 27

Chapter 27 : The Iron Rooster Sheds Its Feathers

Lin Ran sensibly walked a little farther away, until she could no longer hear any sounds.

Bored, she sat on a stone stool, but her mind couldn’t help but wonder about the relationship between Fu Xingjian and Yao Ning at this moment.

Are they just dating, or are they married?

If they are married, it doesn’t seem right. What’s wrong?

It wasn’t until Fu Xingjian stood in front of her again that she realized Liang Meiqi had once said that if they were already married, Fu Xingjian shouldn’t be holding his bare hand.

Yao Ning is the kind of girl who values ceremony. If they were engaged or married, Fu Xingjian would definitely be wearing a wedding ring.

But if the two of them hadn’t gotten together, Lin Ran didn’t believe it. They had grown up together, spent many years in a foreign land; how could they not be together?

“I’ll leave the umbrella with you for now, I have several in my office,” Fu Xingjian said.

Lin Ran was stunned. “Uh, actually, I can get down in just two minutes.”

Fu Xingjian’s deep eyes gazed at her, as if disapproving of her stubbornness.

After that look, Lin Ran felt a little embarrassed to insist. It was just an umbrella, and if she kept insisting, it would seem petty.

“Then, tomorrow. I’ll bring it to you tomorrow.”

Fu Xingjian glanced at his watch. “I’m going to have dinner now. Have you eaten? Want to join me?”

“No, I’ve already eaten.”

“Alright then, I’ll head off first.”

“Okay, goodbye.”

Lin Ran waved, and they both walked in opposite directions.

On Monday morning, Lin Ran sat at her desk on the 25th floor of the Yutou Building, occasionally glancing at the various chat messages in the Yutou Fund project group.

Finally, by 9:30, the project team members had all arrived.

After confirming the number of people, Lin Ran walked directly to the front desk of Yutou Fund and smiled as she handed a cup of coffee to the receptionist.

“Sorry to bother you. We’re all here now. Could you please help us with the access card? Thanks so much~”

From Lin Ran’s past on-site experience, she knew that on the client’s territory, not just the receptionist, even the janitors could make things difficult for them. So, she was used to first making sure the front desk, cleaning staff, and security were taken care of whenever she went to a client’s office.

As expected, the receptionist’s eyes lit up when she saw the high-quality coffee on the desk. She quickly handed Lin Ran the access card and said, “This card will only work for the first-floor lobby and the 23rd floor. It won’t work anywhere else.”

Lin Ran nodded, “Got it. We won’t be going anywhere else.”

With Lin Ran’s assistance, the on-site procedure went smoothly, and the project team members joined seamlessly. On the first day at the site, the atmosphere was quite cheerful. Everyone chatted and laughed, and before they knew it, it was already 8 p.m. Seeing the time, Lin Ran decided to order some late-night snacks for everyone.

Liang Meiqi laughed at her, “Wow, the iron rooster is shedding its feathers?”

The way she said it made it seem like Lin Ran was usually very stingy and never treated others. In reality, as a project manager, Lin Ran often paid for meals or afternoon tea for her colleagues. While her motives weren’t entirely pure, hoping to get work delivered sooner for a bonus, it still meant spending real money, money she had earned bit by bit.

“Yes, shedding feathers. Eat more later; it’s rare that you get the chance to ‘pluck’ me.” Lin Ran didn’t mind, smiling as she went downstairs to pick up the delivery.

Unexpectedly, the elevator was crowded at this time, with wave after wave of people pushing in. Lin Ran was forced to squeeze into a corner.

Sigh, looks like there’s pressure everywhere, she thought helplessly.

There were so many people, and someone wearing leather shoes accidentally stepped on her foot, causing Lin Ran to wince in pain.

“Sorry, sorry…”

Lin Ran waved her hand, not even seeing the person’s face who stepped on her, “It’s fine, it’s fine.” No one could be blamed for this; if there was any blame, it should fall on the damn capitalists who made them work so late.

When the elevator reached the first floor, the crowded people scattered, but the person in front of her didn’t move. Lin Ran looked up and realized that the face in front of her looked somewhat familiar.

He Bing, with a hint of bitterness, smiled and asked, “What, you don’t recognize me after just three years?”
