Chapter 30 : Unwilling to Accept
When Lin Ran just got to her seat, she received a WeChat message from He Bing. Last night, He Bing had added her on WeChat again, and she had accepted.
In his message, He Bing indirectly blamed Lin Ran for deleting his WeChat account.
Lin Ran helplessly explained, “There wasn’t enough space on my phone, so I had to delete some contacts.”
Given her usual thrifty image, this explanation was quite convincing.
In reality, Lin Ran simply didn’t feel the need to keep WeChat contacts for people she no longer planned to stay in touch with, especially since she wasn’t planning to run a business through WeChat.
He Bing replied: “I won’t be able to take you around at lunchtime. My boss suddenly asked me to give a report, and I’m busy making the PPT.”
He even sent her a screenshot of the PPT, probably fearing she wouldn’t believe him.
In fact, there was no need for him to justify himself. Even if he hadn’t offered any excuse and just said that they wouldn’t meet for lunch, Lin Ran would have felt relieved.
She typed a short reply: “Okay.” At the same time, she silently prayed that he would stay busy so that he wouldn’t have time to bother her.
However, He Bing was persistent. For the next few days, he waited for her in the staff canteen. Fortunately, Lin Ran was often accompanied by Liang Meiqi, and Lin Ran would apologize and say it wasn’t convenient, causing He Bing to leave.
During meals, Liang Meiqi gossiped about Lin Ran’s relationship with He Bing, and Lin Ran only mentioned that he was a former colleague.
One more lunch, Lin Ran invited Liang Meiqi to the downstairs canteen, but Liang Meiqi shook her head, saying, “I’m going to the café on the first floor for a light meal.”
Lin Ran looked her up and down and asked, “Are you dieting again?”
“No,” Liang Meiqi said mysteriously, leaning closer to her, “I’ve been observing, and I noticed that Fu Xingjian often goes to the café on the first floor. I’m planning to go there every day and try my luck.”
Lin Ran smiled but didn’t say anything. She took the elevator down to B1 to get takeout and eat it back in her office.
…
Liang Meiqi waited until nearly one o’clock, and Fu Xingjian still hadn’t shown up. Just as she was about to give up, she suddenly spotted him at the door.
Today, Fu Xingjian was wearing a well-known brand’s latest suit. His broad shoulders, narrow waist, and long legs made him look striking in the formal wear. Liang Meiqi stood up, pretending to “coincidentally” run into him.
“Ah, Mr. Fu, what a coincidence! We meet again!” She covered her mouth in surprise, looking innocent, pure, and sweet.
Fu Xingjian raised an eyebrow. He remembered her, but not in a good way.
“Mm,” he casually nodded, not wanting to continue the conversation.
But Liang Meiqi thought the opportunity was fleeting and she had to seize it. She followed Fu Xingjian and sat down opposite him.
“Mr. Fu, do you also like this restaurant? I think their Spanish latte is amazing, just like the one I had abroad!”
Fu Xingjian simply mumbled a “Mm” without responding further. Liang Meiqi’s face showed some embarrassment, but she wasn’t planning to give up. After all, a high-profile man like him had to be wooed slowly; that’s the satisfaction she would get. If she had been as eager as Mao Quanan, who added her on WeChat that same evening, she wouldn’t have even bothered.
An idea crossed Liang Meiqi’s mind and she decided to change her strategy.
“Mr. Fu, our development is going smoothly, and I’ve already set up the overall framework for the demand planning. If you need, I can report to you anytime.”
Fu Xingjian rubbed his forehead, not really wanting to entertain her. However, hearing her mention a report, he straightened up, as if something occurred to him. He calmly said, “Okay. Next week, have Lin Ran find me for a report.”
What? Liang Meiqi was stunned. She had clearly said she would report to him, so why did he suddenly mention Lin Ran?
She was about to explain when Fu Xingjian gave her a cold glance. “It’s one o’clock. Aren’t you going back to work?”
Oh. Liang Meiqi reluctantly stood up and headed upstairs.
As she stepped out of the elevator on the 23rd floor, she saw Lin Ran and Mao Quanan arguing.
“Mao, this demand is not within our planning scope, so we can’t do it.”
Mao Quanan snapped, “Your product manager said it was fine, and it was included in the product requirements. How can you suddenly back out?!”
Lin Ran, momentarily speechless, noticed Liang Meiqi walking over and immediately called out, “Meiqi, come here. Do you think this demand can be done?”
Liang Meiqi, who was already upset about not being able to report to Fu Xingjian alone, became even more frustrated when she heard Lin Ran’s questioning tone.
She grabbed the form from Lin Ran’s hand and glanced at it. This demand had been added by her, initially intended to impress Fu Xingjian when she reported to him, hoping to gain recognition and catch his attention. But Fu Xingjian had rejected her.
Why?
Clearly, it was her achievement, so why should Lin Ran benefit from it? She was unwilling to accept this!
In terms of looks, ability, and family background, she was no worse than Lin Ran.
So, in a huff, she blurted out, “Lin Ran, this demand was approved by you!”
