Chapter 32: Go After Lin Ran
Lin Ran took just a few minutes to go from the 23rd floor to the café, and in that time, she had already drafted several plans to deal with the situation. She quickly laid out her ideas.
Zhou Xu was initially surprised, then remained silent for two minutes before giving instructions: “I think Plan One is feasible, but I’m currently at the hospital. Can you go communicate with Xing Jian?”
Lin Ran hesitated: “It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to communicate with Mr. Fu directly, I’m afraid he might think I’m not qualified.”
In fact, she didn’t want to meet Fu Xingjian alone at all. A few days ago, she had been caught in a lie while pretending to be miserable in front of him, and she felt embarrassed. Since their reunion, awkward situations like this had occurred several times, and even with her strong demeanor, it was a bit hard for her to handle.
Zhou Xu quickly reassured her, “It’s fine. Fu Xingjian isn’t that type of person. Besides, you’re his classmate, and perhaps as his classmate, your approach might be more effective than mine.”
Lin Ran stayed silent in resistance, and after a few seconds of quiet on the other end of the line, Zhou Xu spoke again: “I’ve sent him a message saying that you’ll be going to meet him soon to discuss something. He said he’s available, so you can go directly.”
… Well, now Lin Ran couldn’t avoid it, she sighed.
After hanging up the phone, Old Zhou, who was lying in a hospital bed, asked what had happened. Zhou Xu smiled and replied, “Nothing, just small stuff. Lin Ran can handle it.”
Old Zhou asked again, “She’s a classmate of Mr. Fu from Yutou Group? I haven’t heard of this before.”
“Yeah, Lin Ran is quite low-key. I only found out recently.”
Old Zhou nodded in satisfaction, “Lin Ran is a good girl. Don’t worry, she won’t let you down.”
Zhou Xu agreed, and after months of working together, he had complete trust in Lin Ran. The tasks he gave her never worried him about progress, potential problems, or solutions—she had everything planned out ahead of time. Her capabilities were evident.
“By the way,” Old Zhou suddenly remembered, “I heard Lin Ran has been single for a while. You should check into that. If she really is single, you should pursue her. With her by your side, both your mother and I would be at ease.”
Old Zhou knew his son well—he was capable, but not ambitious, and had no great business drive. Putting the company in his hands was a gamble. But there was nothing to be done—he only had this one son.
That’s why he knew his son couldn’t marry a delicate flower. He needed a capable woman.
Lin Ran was a good kid. He liked her character and personality, and even though her family background wasn’t great, that didn’t matter. The Zhou family had risen from humble beginnings too.
“Dad, what are you talking about?” Zhou Xu was amused when his father suddenly brought up this topic.
Him and Lin Ran? That was absurd!
Old Zhou scowled, “What’s wrong? Do you think Lin Ran isn’t good-looking? Young people these days only care about looks and figures. Can that be eaten? Personality and capability are what matter most!”
Zhou Xu was speechless. “I don’t think she’s unattractive. In fact, she’s not a top beauty, but she’s a clean and pretty girl. Why would I have a problem with her looks?”
“Then what do you dislike about her? Her family background?”
Zhou Xu: …
“I don’t dislike her.”
“Alright, then go after Lin Ran.”
Zhou Xu: …
At that moment, Zhou’s mother walked in holding some freshly washed fruit, and Zhou Xu immediately saw his chance to escape. He thought of a perfect excuse: “The blind date Mom introduced me to last time—haven’t met yet. I can’t turn down her friend’s request.”
Zhou’s mother beamed with delight—had the sun risen from the west? Her son was actually asking to meet a blind date!
“Alright, I’ll arrange it for you tomorrow.”
Zhou Xu: …
