Chapter 36: Blind Date
“Xingjian? What are you looking at?” Yao Ning tapped his shoulder and followed his gaze to the opposite side, only to see an ordinary private room door with nothing unusual.
Fu Xingjian retracted his gaze and replied lightly: “Nothing.” Then he wiped his hands and found an excuse to go out, “I’m going to the bathroom.”
As he passed by the opposite private room, he paused for a moment and overheard the voices of two mothers inside.
“This is my son, He Bing, he studies computer science and currently works at Yutou Group. You’ve all heard of this company, right? It’s one of Xicheng’s top financial companies, listed and in the world’s top 500. My son is highly valued by the leaders there. Last week, the CEO specifically invited him for a chat!”
He Bing’s mother spoke with pride. If not for He Bing telling her that the company had a confidentiality agreement prohibiting her from discussing salaries, she would have definitely shared how much her son earns.
The girl and her mother, sitting across from them, smiled with joy. “Yutou is a great company, we’ve heard of it. When our Yuxin graduated, she wanted to join, but we heard they have strict requirements for education.”
“Exactly! Fortunately, He Bing’s education is solid!” He Bing’s mother secretly rejoiced. Her son had really made her proud today.
However, the conversation quickly shifted. “Fortunately, later Yuxin changed her approach. Since she couldn’t get into a big company, she decided to take the civil servant exam. The work is easy and stable. After all, she’s a girl, and our family doesn’t expect her to earn much.”
The remark, although framed as humble, subtly elevated the daughter’s value.
He Bing’s mother forced a smile, saying “Yes, yes,” but inside, she felt uncomfortable. Private company employees, no matter how good the benefits, could never compare to the stable, prestigious position of a civil servant.
This was why He Bing’s mother insisted on bringing her son for the blind date today.
In Xicheng, there were very few girls with such conditions still unmarried. Miss this chance, and it would be gone.
She nudged her son’s hand and raised her eyebrows, signaling him to perform well.
Fu Xingjian curled his lips in a mocking smile, then silently entered the private room.
Inside, Xu Huanran’s loud voice was like a trumpet. “Ningning, are you back alone this time? Where’s your foreign boyfriend?”
Yao Ning smiled, glancing at Fu Xingjian, who had just sat down, trying to catch a sign of something unusual from his face but found nothing.
Feigning anger, she said, “What boyfriend? We broke up long ago. I’ve been single for more than half a year now, okay?”
Across from her, the face remained calm, but Yao Ning felt an indescribable sense of frustration in her chest.
Only Xu Huanran, the silly one, grinned and winked at Yao Ning. “Do you want me to set you up with someone?”
Unable to sit still, Yao Ning moved a few seats away and leaned into Fu Xingjian’s arm, acting spoiled. “Xingjian, look at him! He just came back from abroad and now he wants to set me up with a boyfriend. Isn’t that too much? Hmph!”
“Mm?” Fu Xingjian seemed to wake up from a dream and rubbed his brow.
Yao Ning was angry at his inattentiveness. Today was supposed to be a welcome for her, but he seemed so unconcerned.
He used to center everything around her, didn’t he?
“Xingjian, what’s wrong?”
Fu Xingjian’s unusual behavior even made Yao Qian feel something was off. “Is it too much work pressure? I heard Yutou Group is preparing to acquire Huaqin Fund?”
“Mm, a bit.” Fu Xingjian responded absentmindedly. In fact, he had been thinking about whether he should tell Lin Ran about He Bing’s blind date.
He was pursuing her while also going on a blind date. She would probably dislike such a man, right?
What would she do if he told her? Thank him?
Not necessarily. She might scold him, considering how unpredictable her current personality was.
Fu Xingjian shook his head. Forget it. He decided not to tell her for now.
