Chapter 40: Coffee Isn’t Worth Much, Please Have a Meal
The car stopped downstairs from Zhuo Ting’s apartment.
Zhuo Ting quickly unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car, hurrying to support Lin Ran, whose feet were still floating above the ground. Lin Ran clung to her like an octopus.
“Thank you, Mr. Fu.”
Although Zhuo Ting didn’t have a good impression of Fu Xingjian, she was a reasonable person. She knew that this time, it was thanks to his help, so she should thank him.
“Mm, here, take this.” He handed her a plastic bag, which emitted a stronger fragrance.
Noticing Zhuo Ting’s curious look, Fu Xingjian casually said, “This is a hangover soup. It works really well.”
Zhuo Ting understood immediately and politely said, “Thank you.” She hadn’t expected Fu Xingjian, a rich young man, to be so thoughtful. He had even bought a hangover soup for Lin Ran, something she hadn’t thought of herself.
After their brief interaction, Zhuo Ting mused, could it really be true, as Lin Ran said, that Fu Xingjian wasn’t as bad as they had thought?
The hangover soup was very effective. After drinking it, Lin Ran’s headache disappeared in two hours. After washing up, she felt much more energetic.
Seeing Zhuo Ting lying exhausted on the sofa, she felt a little guilty and offered, “Let me give you a massage? You must be worn out from taking me home today.”
Zhuo Ting flipped over, disinterested, scrolling through short videos. “It’s fine. I’m not really tired. I think Fu Xingjian’s probably the one who’s tired.”
???
Lin Ran was confused. What did Fu Xingjian have to do with this?
She tried to recall the events of the afternoon. She remembered that she and Zhuo Ting were drinking, then saw Fu Xingjian, and the next thing she knew, they were leaving together.
“Lin Ran, don’t tell me you’ve forgotten everything you did to Fu Xingjian?” Zhuo Ting sat up suddenly, scaring Lin Ran, making her heart skip a beat.
“I… what did I do to him?” Lin Ran grabbed Zhuo Ting’s hand nervously, “I didn’t curse at him, did I?”
“No, that didn’t happen.”
Lin Ran felt relieved.
“You just… touched him everywhere,” Zhuo Ting emphasized the words “touched him everywhere.”
Lin Ran furrowed her brow. “What do you mean?”
“Literally, your naughty hands were all over him.”
Lin Ran: …
“By the way, Fu Xingjian also bought you the hangover soup.”
Lin Ran: …
After thinking for over ten minutes, Lin Ran remembered scattered fragments and could confirm that she had indeed done some rather ungraceful things to Fu Xingjian.
She hesitated for a moment, wondering whether she should apologize to Fu Xingjian. After thinking about it, she decided to search for his name on WeChat and formally apologize and thank him.
“Mr. Fu, I’m really sorry about what happened this afternoon. I was drunk and not in my right mind, truly sorry! Also, thank you for taking us home and buying me the hangover soup, I really appreciate it!”
She read the message over again, making sure the tone was sincere, then pressed send.
It wasn’t long before she got a reply. “Is that all? Saying sorry and thank you? Everyone knows how to do that.”
Clearly, Fu Xingjian wasn’t satisfied with just words.
Lin Ran meekly responded, “Then, how about I treat you to coffee on Monday?”
“Coffee isn’t worth much. Let’s have a meal instead.”
…
Lin Ran felt a twitch at the corner of her mouth. He was so rich, yet he cared about this? She was in pain—her wallet, too—but she had no choice but to agree: “Alright, you pick the time and place.”
“Mm, to prevent you from pulling tricks, let’s meet Monday evening at Four Seasons Mansion.”
Lin Ran groaned inwardly. She knew the meal would be pricey, but she didn’t expect it to be so expensive. Four Seasons Mansion costs over 2K+ per person, and now her wallet really hurt!
