Chapter 44: Little Girl, Your Fiancé Might Be in Grave Danger
In just a short time, news spread across the internet that the young master of the Yin family, Yin Hanyu, had been in a severe car accident. His car had plunged into the deep and bottomless Qingjiang River.
His whereabouts were now unknown, and his life or death was uncertain.
Lin Qingyou rushed to the accident scene as soon as she could, only to find that the area had already been cordoned off by the police.
A crowd of onlookers had gathered, murmuring among themselves.
“It was terrifying—truly terrifying! I barely escaped death!”
“Yes, same here. Thank the heavens I survived. It was a near-death experience!”
Hearing this, Lin Qingyou immediately grabbed one of the bystanders, her eyes filled with urgency as she anxiously questioned him.
“You were there when the accident happened?”
The bystander nodded, still visibly shaken as he patted his chest. “Of course! If that young man hadn’t reacted quickly, we all would have been caught in a massive chain collision.”
“What exactly happened? Please, tell me everything!”
The bystander studied Lin Qingyou and hesitated. “Who are you? Why are you so nervous?”
“I’m his girlfriend. We were supposed to register our marriage tomorrow morning.”
Upon hearing this, the bystander looked at her with sympathy. “Little girl… I’m afraid your fiancé might be in grave danger.”
“His car must have malfunctioned because he couldn’t control the speed and ended up rear-ending the car in front. Luckily, he had excellent driving skills. I saw him sharply turn the steering wheel and change lanes immediately.”
“But at that moment, a massive truck was coming straight at him from the left.”
“He must have realized that a head-on collision would be fatal, so he deliberately drove into the Qingjiang River instead.”
Lin Qingyou’s heart clenched.
Yin Hanyu, you can’t be in trouble. You just can’t.
The bystander pointed at the broken guardrail that had been smashed through by Yin Hanyu’s car. “Look at that impact force. Then consider the height of the drop into the Qingjiang. He fell into the river with his car… The chances of survival are slim.”
The bystander sighed and shook his head. “Such a pity. I heard he was an important figure… And to think someone like him had such a kind heart.”
Another onlooker questioned, “Come on, you should just be grateful you survived. Why are you praising some rich guy?”
The bystander angrily spat. “You don’t understand! I stayed here not to gawk like the rest of you but to see if there was any chance that young man could be rescued. After all, he’s my savior!”
“Savior?”
“Yes! If he hadn’t swerved into the river and had instead crashed into that truck head-on, not only would he have died, but all of us driving behind and beside him would’ve been caught in the disaster too.”
“That’s why, as soon as the accident happened, several drivers who could swim jumped into the Qingjiang to save him. But it’s been over half an hour now, and there’s no sign of him—or even his car.”
The bystander sighed as he continued to peer into the dark waters of the Qingjiang.
Lin Qingyou climbed over the guardrail without hesitation. She didn’t even bother taking the safer path—she rushed straight down the steep slope toward the riverbank.
The bystander was startled. “Hey! Little girl, that’s too dangerous! Come back!”
“Sigh… She must really love her boyfriend.”
“What a pity… I heard they were supposed to get married tomorrow. Such a perfect couple.”
Late Night
The Qingjiang River, which should have been shrouded in darkness, was now illuminated as brightly as day.
Rescue teams were still tirelessly searching the river. Divers went down one after another, while others took turns coming back up.
Every time someone emerged from the river, Lin Qingyou would rush over and ask the same question.
“Did you find him?”
“No…”
“Nothing yet…”
“Still no sign…”
Again and again, she asked. Again and again, she was met with the same devastating answer.
“We’ll keep searching, but the weather is too cold. If you can’t bear it, you should go home. We’ll notify you the moment we have news.”
This conversation had repeated countless times throughout the night.
Winter had already arrived, and the riverside was freezing in the dead of night.
The rescue team members shivered from the cold but continued to search the waters.
Some of them were here out of duty. Others had been hired by Lin Qingyou and Yin Yichen at an exorbitant price to join the search.
Suddenly, a commotion broke out in the distance.
Lin Qingyou’s eyes lit up, and she immediately ran toward it.
She thought they had found Yin Hanyu. That’s why the crowd had gathered.
But when she arrived, she realized it was just Yin Yichen.
He had insisted on diving in to help the rescue team, but instead of contributing, he nearly drowned himself. Thankfully, the professionals managed to pull him out in time.
Now, Yin Yichen lay on the beach, soaked to the bone, shivering violently and sneezing repeatedly.
Lin Qingyou hurried to her aunt’s car, grabbed a thick coat, and wrapped it around him. Only then did he regain some warmth.
Xiao Xue, who had come to bring Lin Qingyou warm clothes and soup, immediately scolded him. “I told you not to go in! Now look at you! Your brother still isn’t found, and you almost lost your own life too!”
But Lin Qingyou couldn’t care less about anything else.
If she knew how to swim, she would have jumped into the river herself.
At least those who could take action had something to keep them occupied—something to distract them from the agony of waiting.
But Lin Qingyou… couldn’t swim.
She could only stare at the vast, deep, endless river—praying over and over again, waiting second by second.
Each second was torment. Each moment was agony.
Time passed unnoticed.
Soon, dawn began to break.
This meant an entire night had passed.
And it also meant the golden rescue window had closed.
Yet still, they found nothing.
Lin Qingyou, who had already been trembling from the cold, now felt her body on the verge of collapse from both physical and emotional exhaustion.
With each failed search attempt, her fleeting hope was crushed again and again—replaced by deeper despair.
The emotional rollercoaster was like a knife stabbing her heart, shredding her nerves.
Worse yet, the once-optimistic rescue team members were growing disheartened, their morale sinking.
Their dejection spread like a plague, casting an oppressive gloom over the scene.
“Captain, any luck?”
“No…”
“I’m afraid it’s hopeless…”
“The Qingjiang is too deep… The chances of survival are nearly zero…”
“Captain, should we call it off? The team is exhausted…”
Finally, Lin Qingyou could no longer endure it.
Her legs gave out, and she collapsed forward.
Just as she was about to hit the ground, Xiao Xue caught her in time.
“Qingyou! Qingyou! What’s wrong?” Xiao Xue’s voice trembled with worry. “Don’t scare me!”
At that moment, a voice erupted from the riverbank.
“We found him! We found him! We found him!”
