Chapter 71: But I Already Have a Wife
Yin Hanyu took the household registration book, his brows furrowing.
“What’s wrong?” Lin Qingyou walked over and took his arm.
Yin Hanyu shook his head. “It’s nothing. Let’s go get our marriage certificate.”
Why was Yin Haoting being so generous, just handing them the household registration book like that?
Forget it. Whatever his intentions were, they didn’t matter.
The most important thing was that he was marrying his wife.
Yin Hanyu wrapped his arm around Lin Qingyou. “Let’s go to your house first.”
Lin Qingyou nodded and led Yin Hanyu back to her family home to retrieve her household registration book.
But as they reached the doorstep, she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
Yin Hanyu tensed up. “Do you not want to marry me anymore?”
Lin Qingyou playfully slapped him. “What are you thinking? Can you stop scaring yourself?”
Yin Hanyu: “…”
“But…” Lin Qingyou pulled him aside before continuing, “I’m going to sneak in and get my household registration book. Let’s not tell my dad just yet.”
Yin Hanyu was confused. “Why?”
Because in her past life, her father did something that completely broke her heart.
It was also because of that incident that Yin Hanyu had publicly announced that he was going to marry her.
But this time, they were getting married much earlier.
So, many things had already changed in this lifetime… and that incident hadn’t happened yet.
She didn’t know if it would still happen.
She also didn’t know if, when it did, her father would once again blame her without hesitation—maybe even hit her.
“My dad is very traditional. If I want to get married, the groom has to follow all the formal traditions: the three letters and six rituals. The elders from both families have to sit together and discuss all the wedding details.”
“But will your grandfather come to my house to propose? Will your father come to discuss the marriage with mine?”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t consider this properly…”
Yin Hanyu wasn’t very familiar with everyday customs. Hearing Lin Qingyou’s explanation, he realized he had oversimplified things.
He thought as long as she was willing to marry and he was willing to take her as his wife, that was enough.
But marriage wasn’t that simple.
“Oh, baby, you don’t need to apologize. Those are just old traditions. Even if your grandfather and father did come, I’d find it too troublesome.”
“If they came, I’d be too lazy to entertain them.” She could already picture it—sitting there obediently, nodding and smiling awkwardly.
“And if they really did come, they’d probably spend three days and nights discussing the dowry and bride price. If your family acts too high and mighty, my dad’s pride will be hurt. If they don’t, it’d seem like your family isn’t giving enough respect to their elite status.” Lin Qingyou frowned and shook her head. “Ugh, just thinking about it gives me a headache.”
“And what’s worse, with my dad’s personality, he’ll insist we have the wedding ceremony first before getting the marriage certificate. But weddings are even more of a hassle!”
“I’d need a designer to custom-make a wedding dress, and a good handmade dress takes at least six months.”
“And that’s just the dress! Then there’s the venue. Should it be in the country or overseas? Indoors or outdoors?”
“Should it be a grand church wedding, a romantic beach wedding, or a relaxed forest-style wedding?”
“How big should the banquet hall be? How many guests should we invite? Who should be the bridesmaids and groomsmen, and how many?”
“Then there’s the host, photographer, makeup artist, red envelopes, flower kids…”
“Ahhh!”
Lin Qingyou smacked her forehead.
God, marriage was too troublesome. She was already exhausted just thinking about it.
But Yin Hanyu listened carefully, taking mental notes.
Since he was nine, he had lived and trained at the base.
His life was completely different from that of normal people.
So he only had a vague understanding of many things—he didn’t even have a clear concept of them.
But he would learn. Because he wanted to give Lin Qingyou the best.
“Youyou, don’t worry. I won’t make you handle any of this. I’ll take care of everything.”
Yin Hanyu held her hand tightly. “You just need to be my bride.”
“You fool. I’m saying all this because it’s too much trouble, so let’s just keep it simple and get the marriage certificate first, okay?” Lin Qingyou clung to his hand and acted cute. “After all, marriage is just about the two of us.”
“It’s not trouble.” Yin Hanyu was firm.
She would have everything she deserved.
And it would be the best.
Without hesitation, Yin Hanyu called Xu Wen and asked him to hire the best designer for a wedding dress and rings.
“Oh my god…” Lin Qingyou rubbed her temples, feeling drained.
This straight-laced man was so stubborn!
She watched as Yin Hanyu made call after call, clearly already diving headfirst into wedding preparations.
Luckily, at that moment, Wang Yalan returned from shopping and saw them at the door.
She was surprised to see Yin Hanyu but immediately greeted him warmly.
“Young Master Yin, what an honor! Please come in.”
She eagerly invited Yin Hanyu inside. “It’s rare for you to visit. Please, have a seat!”
“Qingyou, how could you let Young Master Yin stand out in the cold?”
Behind her, Lin Qingyou rolled her eyes.
So enthusiastic.
In the living room, Yin Hanyu had just sat down when Wang Yalan rushed to make tea.
Lin Qingyou took the chance to whisper to him, “She’s always wanted you as her son-in-law.”
But Yin Hanyu simply said, “She wants the eldest young master of the Yin family as her son-in-law.”
Lin Qingyou: “…”
So straightforward!
Refreshing!
Wang Yalan came back with the tea, smiling obsequiously. “Young Master Yin, please enjoy this tea. It’s Da Hong Pao that my husband has specially kept for years.”
Lin Qingyou couldn’t help but roll her eyes again.
No wonder her aunt always said that no matter how well Wang Yalan pretended, her small-minded, low-class nature was impossible to hide.
Boiling a pot of good tea and making a big deal out of it?
Did she think no one could tell quality tea apart?
Wang Yalan smiled and sat across from Yin Hanyu. “Young Master Yin, did you come today to see our Qingqing or to see my husband?”
“Qingqing?” Yin Hanyu frowned. “Who’s Qingqing?”
Wang Yalan’s smile froze. “…”
Lin Qingyou feigned surprise. “Oh my god, Yin Hanyu, how could you forget Qingqing? She confessed to you multiple times! You’re so mean!”
Before Yin Hanyu could respond, Wang Yalan quickly added, “Young Master Yin is an outstanding man, exceptional in every way. It’s only natural that Qingqing admires you!”
But Yin Hanyu simply said, “But I already have a wife.”
Wang Yalan’s eyes widened in shock. “…???”
Lin Qingyou’s eyes widened too. “…!!!”
Wait… weren’t they supposed to keep that a secret for now?
