Rebirth in 1993, Dark Sea Chapter 47

Chapter 47

“Guo Xiangshui, very good! Call two more people, have them help carry them and follow me.”

The young prison guard also breathed a sigh of relief, and his tone became a little more friendly. If Guo Xiangshui hadn’t stepped up, he probably would have been in a tough spot today.

Whether or not he received a reprimand from his superiors was one thing, but being made to lose face in front of the prisoners would cause a lot of trouble for his future work.

However, Guo Xiangshui was not an easy person, and the young guard hadn’t expected him to step up today.

But this was not the time to think about that; the most important thing was to deal with the current situation first.

“You guys follow us. The rest of you quickly clean up here. When I come back, everything must be restored to the way it was. Do you understand?!”

Without waiting for the prisoners to respond, the young guard turned and left, with other prisoners helping the injured follow closely behind.

The older guard turned back, glared sharply at the prisoners, and pointed at a few of them before leaving.

In the medical room, the doctor was applying medicine to An Xiaohai, her brows furrowed tightly.

The doctor’s name was Liu Xuemei, in her 40s, slightly chubby. She was the “old auntie” that Xu Tianyou had mentioned. Xu Tianyou thought she was a nurse, but in reality, Liu Xuemei did two jobs.

From the beginning, Liu Xuemei had paid special attention to An Xiaohai. She had a son around his age, and An Xiaohai was very different from the usual prisoners; he had a strong academic air about him.

Liu Xuemei found it strange, wondering how such a kid ended up here. She even asked the prison warden about the reason for An Xiaohai’s imprisonment, and after learning the details, Liu Xuemei felt even more sorry for him.

Lately, An Xiaohai had been in the medical room frequently, always badly injured, clearly being severely bullied. This made Liu Xuemei very sad.

But she couldn’t show it, only secretly doing what she could to take care of An Xiaohai.

For example, she would exaggerate his injuries so he could stay in the medical room longer. She would try to arrange for him to have a private room and avoid disturbing him when she had nothing to do, giving him more personal space.

That was all she could do.

“Xiao Mo, what’s the deal with this prisoner?”

“Ah? Which prisoner? Liu Jie, which one do you mean?” Mo Qinglian, the young guard who had escorted An Xiaohai, scratched his head.

“The youngest one, the one who looks like a student,” Liu Xuemei said, nodding towards An Xiaohai.

“Ah, him? I don’t know!” Mo Qinglian shook his head. “He’s just been transferred here. As soon as he arrived, he got into a fight with Zhao De and his group. I haven’t had time to look into it yet.”

“I see, Zhao De’s group isn’t exactly good people!” Liu Xuemei subtly spoke up for An Xiaohai.

Since Zhao De’s group wasn’t good, they must have been bullying him.

“Liu Jie, you make it sound like…” Mo Qinglian laughed, but he didn’t think much of it. After all, who in this prison was really a good person?

As the head of the receiving prison unit, Mo Qinglian had read An Xiaohai’s file, and he had some opinions on him. No matter what others thought, he believed that Liu Jun was probably the one An Xiaohai had injured with a knife.

If that was true, it meant An Xiaohai wasn’t as innocent as he seemed.

Although no one had talked much about the Liu Jun incident recently, the investigation hadn’t been fully closed; it was just being handled more covertly because the situation was very serious.

However, Mo Qinglian wouldn’t argue with Liu Xuemei directly. Her husband worked in a higher supervisory position in the Sea City Prison Administration Bureau, as a division chief.

Liu Xuemei was also careful not to attract gossip. She worked hard and took the lead in everything, earning respect in the prison.

“Alright, Xiao Mo, prepare to take An Xiaohai to the city hospital for an examination.”

“Wait, really? He can’t be that seriously injured, can he? It looks like Zhao De’s injuries are worse than his!” Mo Qinglian became a bit nervous. On the one hand, if the prisoner was seriously injured, he could face consequences, and on the other, taking a prisoner out for medical treatment was a hassle.

He had to make sure the prisoner didn’t escape, and also stay alert for anyone trying to approach them. Every time he did something like this, it felt like mental torture.

“You don’t know, Xiao Mo. This isn’t the first time he’s been injured. In just the last few months, he’s been sent here four or five times. His right arm has been hurt again and again. I’m worried if this continues, he’ll end up permanently disabled.

If that happens, it’s bad for everyone, don’t you think?

The medical room’s facilities are limited. It’s better to take him to the city hospital for a more thorough check.”

“Alright, alright, I’ll go prepare…” Mo Qinglian said dejectedly. What else could he do after Liu Xuemei spoke so clearly? But this only made him resent An Xiaohai even more.

This guy was always causing trouble!

On the way to the hospital, An Xiaohai kept his head down, never once looking out the car window, which made Liu Xuemei feel a deep sense of sympathy.

To Liu Xuemei, An Xiaohai seemed like someone who had given up on everything.

But An Xiaohai wasn’t pretending; he was just constantly thinking about what to do next. Even though he hadn’t lost much this time, the situation was far from over, and things would definitely not end peacefully.

As for the scenery outside the car window, it was just scenery. There would be plenty of chances to see it later.

An Xiaohai didn’t feel much about the city.

“The patient’s condition is a bit serious. Multiple abrasions and soft tissue contusions all over the body. The bone injury on his arm is healing well and was handled professionally. As long as he takes care, there shouldn’t be any major issues. However, if possible, I would recommend hospitalization for a few days.”

After the doctor reported on An Xiaohai’s condition, he looked at him curiously several times. His impression was similar to Liu Xuemei’s – An Xiaohai didn’t look like a vicious criminal at all.

“Thank you, doctor,” Liu Xuemei sighed with relief, feeling a little bit of satisfaction.

Liu Xuemei had graduated from a nursing school, not a medical school, and her medical skills were self-taught. She had worked very hard to get her medical license.

Despite this, her role as the prison doctor in the First Prison had sparked some gossip, with people saying she got the position because of her husband.

The doctor’s words were undoubtedly a validation, and Liu Xuemei couldn’t help but feel happy.

When they returned to the First Prison, an investigation into the incident began. As expected, just like usual, it didn’t lead to any real results.

Both parties involved in the fight said they had a grudge against each other, but they didn’t know how the fight started. The bystanders all claimed they didn’t know anything.

Although Mo Qinglian had expected this outcome, he was still frustrated.

An Xiaohai was acting so innocent, but he was clearly a smooth operator who hid behind his baby face!

The result of the investigation came quickly: An Xiaohai received a major demerit, and after staying in the medical room for three days, he would be sent to solitary confinement for three days. The others involved in the fight also received demerits.

After staying in the medical room for three days, An Xiaohai was taken to the solitary confinement room, and coincidentally, it was the same one as last time!

When the heavy iron door of the solitary confinement room slammed shut, An Xiaohai sat down on the floor with a sense of relief and exhaled deeply.
