Chapter 56: Stones on Newspaper
Lin Weiwan raised her eyebrows. It had been a long time since she had seen something with mist. She quickly pretended to be nothing and picked out a pile of clean newspapers and rolled them up.
She saw some old books and notebooks, and found a few notebooks and several sets of exercise books.
Lin Weiwan rolled them all up in the newspapers, and finally picked up the stone that was as big as a pillow and walked to the door.
Putting the stone at his feet, Lin Weiwan took out a pile of newspapers and notebooks that he had tucked under his armpits.
“That’s all, sir.”
The old man looked up and said, “Three cents.”
He saw the stone under Lin Weiwan’s feet again and looked at the little girl in front of him in confusion.
“Uncle, I just bought a jar to store sauerkraut, and I happened to see that you have a stone. Can I use it?”
He took out the remaining two pieces of peach cake from his shoulder bag and stuffed them into the old man’s hand.
“Uncle, it’s almost noon, use it to fill your stomach first.”
The old man saw the fragrant peach cake in his hand, which was a good thing.
He didn’t even look at the inconspicuous broken stone under his feet and let Lin Weiwan move it away.
After getting on the ox cart, Lin Weiwan took out the things in the bamboo basket, put the stone in the basket, and stuffed other small items back into the basket.
“Will the basket be damaged?” Chen Dasheng looked at Lin Weiwan and asked.
“It shouldn’t be a problem. Anyway, we took it out when we arrived at the educated youth point, so as not to damage the jar by rolling on the road. Put it in the basket, and I can still hold it.”
Lin Weiwan said casually.
After checking the time, it was already noon. “Uncle Chen, let’s go to the state-owned restaurant. I’ll treat you. Let’s have something delicious.”
Chen Dasheng, who was driving the ox cart, leaned over and said, “Even if you have money, you can’t squander it like this. What will you eat if you spend it all? You haven’t done any farm work in a day.
Do you know how tiring farm work is? The autumn harvest is coming soon. No matter how hard you educated youth work, it won’t be enough to support the grain distribution in the autumn harvest next year.”
“Uncle, let’s go eat some meat. The money I have is really enough. You also said that the autumn harvest is coming. Eat something oily, otherwise you won’t have the strength to go to the fields.”
Lin Weiwan swung her feet on the ox cart. She didn’t plan to go to the black market today. Ye Jibai and the little fat man must have gone to the black market, so she wouldn’t get involved.
It’s better to satisfy your stomach first. You haven’t even had a proper meal since morning, and you can’t leave Chen Dasheng alone there.
At the door of the state-owned restaurant, Chen Dasheng said he would not go in no matter what. He just said that he was afraid that his things would be lost and he had to watch them in the car.
Lin Weiwan sighed and walked in. There was braised pork today, so she ordered a portion of braised pork and ten meat buns. Lin Weiwan took a big bowl from the ox cart and went in.
After packing up and carrying the things out and getting on the cart, Chen Dasheng saw Lin Weiwan carrying a bunch of things and couldn’t help sighing.
“Uncle, let’s find a cooler place under the tree.”
Lin Weiwan looked at Chen Dasheng with a bowl of braised pork.
The two of them ate the buns with the braised pork and their mouths were full of oil.
Chen Dasheng was full of happiness. He had never eaten like this even during the Chinese New Year. Thinking of Lin Weiwan’s future life in the countryside.
He decided to take better care of this honest and silly girl in the future. When winter comes, he will ask his wife to visit more often and bring some dry food.
Each of them ate three buns and a bowl of braised pork, and waited for Ye Jibai and Hu Xiaopang to come back.
Lin Weiwan was drinking water when he saw Ye Jibai and Hu Xiaopang carrying pots, pans, soy sauce and salt bags back.
As soon as Hu Xiaopang got on the car, he smelled the fragrance and his stomach growled.
The ox cart was already heading back, and Ji Ben just happened to be able to go up the mountain with the villagers in the afternoon to prepare firewood for the winter.
Before the autumn harvest, there was no need to worry about the crops in the fields, and most of the time, they would go around the mountains looking for dead trees and broken branches to bring back.
The dead trees at this time were dried in the sun and could be burned in the winter. When the winter came, the firewood chopped back was very damp and smoked when burned, making it difficult to open your eyes.
Not to mention when the mountains were closed due to heavy snow, the roads were not clear and there was no way to cut firewood.
Every household took advantage of this time to go up the mountain to chop firewood and carry it back. Carrying it for ten days and a half months, plus the firewood chopped back at other times, it was enough for the whole winter.
Looking at the two people’s bulging stomachs, Lin Weiwan took out four big meat buns from the cloth bag.
Hu Xiaopang’s eyes lit up when he saw her, “You are the best, Lin Zhiqing.”
Lin Weiwan dodged the buns in her hand, “The buns are not given for free.”
Chen Dasheng had been listening to the noise behind the car with his ears perked up. He didn’t want this silly girl to be like those young educated youths, who were obsessed with men.
Let others take advantage of them for nothing, that group of shameless people, eating and taking, and fooling the little girl.
Hu Xiaopang was stunned, and thought that he really couldn’t take it for free, so he quickly reached into his pocket to take out the money.
Lin Weiwan shook his head, and Ye Jibai just looked at Lin Weiwan.
“Just bring me some firewood when you chop wood these days. I’m building a house these days, and I’m afraid I won’t have enough time to chop wood. When the house is built, I’ll treat you to a good meal.”
Lin Weiwan felt that although she didn’t need to build the house, she still had to make some hot water for the villagers who were working, help them busy, and work and cook, so she definitely didn’t have enough time.
Ye Jibai nodded, “Okay, don’t worry.”
Lin Weiwan stuffed the buns into Ye Jibai’s big hands, and Hu Xiaopang quickly said, “Don’t worry, Lin Zhiqing, I will definitely get you a bunch of dry firewood.”
Then he went to grab the meat buns. The food in the morning was not very good, and he went around the city several times to buy these things.
Hu Xiaopang ate the buns and felt much better.
Back in the village, Ye Jibai and Hu Xiaopang helped put the things Lin Weiwan bought into Uncle Chen’s house.
Lin Weiwan returned to the Zhiqing point with a bamboo basket on his back and found that the female Zhiqing in the two rooms had changed.
Wu Erqiao and Lin Huahua both moved to Feng Yuzhen’s room, and Zhou Rongrong and Wang Ping moved in. Cui Hongying was still there.
Seeing Lin Weiwan carrying a bamboo basket into the house, Wang Ping looked at Lin Weiwan the first time.
I wanted to take some time to steal the black jade beads hanging around Lin Weiwan’s neck, so I chose another room to avoid suspicion.
But at lunch today, Du Shanshan actually said that Lin Weiwan built a house and moved out.
At this time, several people came to the backyard and started digging the foundation.
Zhou Rongrong was even more jealous. Why could Lin Weiwan move out? She hadn’t exchanged the beads in her hand from Lin Weiwan yet.
Ever since she had rubbed the black jade beads once, she couldn’t forget them and always felt that they should be hers.
At noon, Wang Ping went back to the house and had a few words with Feng Yuzhen. Zhou Rongrong followed Wang Ping to move to Lin Weiwan’s house.
When Lin Weiwan came back and saw the two of them, she turned around and put her bamboo basket on the ground, opened the box, and put the oil and soy sauce against the edge of the box.
She put the things into the wooden box one by one, and put the big stone at the bottom of the basket into the space when no one was paying attention.
After locking the box, Lin Weiwan went out to Carpenter Li’s house with the bamboo basket and shoulder bag on her back.
I need things like wooden barrels, wooden lids for two jars, and spoons.
Du Shanshan looked at Lin Weiwan who was busy running around without saying a word. It was indeed out of jealousy that she exposed the fact that Lin Weiwan was going to build a house today.
Although a few words from me would not matter, some things are just a matter of a hair’s breadth. I just said a few words, and the faces of these new and old educated youth turned dark.
Du Shanshan felt vaguely pleased in her heart. She could obviously help me, but why was she so cold to me.
They were all educated youth who went to the countryside together, and they had such a good relationship.
How could Lin Weiwan just watch me lose face in front of the village chief?
