Liu Dagang was a man of few words and had a dull, stoic personality. He was a small, old man, and other than eating and working, he only stayed at home when it was time to sleep.
In the Liu family, he was the least noticeable person, second only to Liu Laoer. His presence was barely acknowledged in the original owner’s memories.
Chen Shi had already been defeated by her; who else could she fear?
Liu Yu didn’t back down. “Uncle, have you ever heard the saying, ‘When soldiers come, generals stand; when water comes, earth blocks it’?”
Liu Jianmin sneered and turned to leave.
Nie Xiaocui was anxious and helpless. She glanced at Liu Yu. “Daughter, you’ve caused trouble today!”
Later that night, Liu Dagang returned home under the starry sky.
Upon returning, he immediately saw Chen Shi sitting at the door, looking suspicious. Before he could ask anything, his old wife started crying, with snot and tears streaming down her face. “Old man, you’re finally back! Look at what our granddaughter has done to me! She pushed and shoved me! Our house is being ruined by that wicked child!”
Liu Dagang’s expression was usually calm because he didn’t care about family quarrels, but when he heard the word “ruin,” his calm demeanor was shattered.
He pushed Chen Shi away and saw the mess inside.
Liu Dagang picked up a shard of the hot water bottle, his hands trembling. “Who did this? This hot water bottle cost ten yuan!”
Chen Shi glared at him, gritting her teeth. “Liu Yu! That fat girl from the main house!”
Liu Dagang, still holding the hot water bottle shard in his hand, stormed to the main house’s door, glaring angrily and shouting, “Oldest son! Bring that damn girl out here! She dared break my hot water bottle, it cost ten yuan! And my table and chairs!”
Liu Jianjia came out, followed by Nie Xiaocui. The couple walked in front of Liu Dagang, their faces full of guilt, like criminals.
“Father, considering that my daughter didn’t know better, please forgive her this time! I promise there won’t be a next time!” Nie Xiaocui lowered her voice, begging.
Liu Jianjia, his head hung low, also humbled himself, “Dad, please let it go this time! The child was just too angry and acted out.”
Liu Dagang looked at his daughter-in-law and eldest son, his squinted eyes narrowing even further. He coldly snorted, “Daring to break my things? I’ll send her to the police station! No negotiations! My hot water bottle cost ten yuan!”
“Dad, how can you do this? I’ll pay for the hot water bottle!”
Liu Jianjia frowned. Liu Dagang was a man who always followed through, and if he said he’d send Liu Yu to the police, he would certainly do it.
Liu Dagang smiled coldly, “I know you’ve got two dimes in your pocket! Can you really pay for the ten yuan? Daring to act like a thug in my house, today I’m sending her to the police station!”
Inside the house, Liu Yu was being held back by Liu Ye, who refused to let her go outside. “Sister, don’t go! Our grandpa is a miser, he’s not joking about sending you to the police!”
Liu Yu pushed her younger brother away. “This was my fault for not thinking things through. I’ll take responsibility for my actions!”
With that, Liu Yu pushed past Liu Ye and walked outside.
When Liu Dagang saw her, his expression darkened further. “Daring to act like a thug in my house! I’m sending you to prison!”
Sending someone to the police wasn’t something to joke about, and Nie Xiaocui grew desperate, standing in front of Liu Yu. “No! Liu Yu is your granddaughter!”
Liu Dagang sneered coldly. “Daring to break my ten yuan hot water bottle, I don’t even recognize my own daughter! So, daughter-in-law, are you buying me a new water bottle or paying me ten yuan?”
Nie Xiaocui opened her mouth but couldn’t speak. Ten yuan—she couldn’t save that much money even if she didn’t eat or drink all year.
“Grandpa, as long as I buy you a new water bottle, can we just forget about it?”
Liu Yu spoke calmly.
Liu Dagang turned to look at her. “Your parents don’t have money, what makes you think a little girl like you have money?”
