Chapter 9
Wang Changping, an educated youth from the city.
Apart from that, Liu Yu had no other impression of him.
It seemed that he lived outside the village, in a small courtyard left by an elderly man named Duan, who had no children.
The educated youth dormitory had accommodations, but this person seemed to have a bad temper and insisted on living alone. Liu Yu’s father couldn’t refuse him, so he packed up and moved out. The space he left behind was just enough for Bai Xueling to take.
He had no choice but to move into the small courtyard that had been abandoned for a long time. The courtyard was on Yunyang Mountain, and getting there required walking many mountain paths.
Liu Yu, carrying a chicken, walked for a while, already panting and squatting on the grass—she was too fat, her heart and lungs were weak, and she started sweating with just a little movement.
But this sweat, Liu Yu hoped to shed as much as possible. For someone like her, half of what she sweat out was oil!
The more she sweated, the faster she could lose weight.
With this thought in mind, Liu Yu took one step after another toward her destination.
After climbing a section of mountain road and walking for half an hour, she finally saw the small courtyard.
Liu Yu took a deep breath, forced herself to move to the front door, then stopped to wipe her face with her sleeve. She tried to adjust herself, making sure she didn’t look too disheveled.
“Um, is Comrade Wang here?”
Liu Yu knocked on the door. Her father had told her that Comrade Wang Changping had taken the day off, but he should be there at this time.
No one answered. Liu Yu knocked again, but still, there was no sound from inside. Just when she was getting impatient and about to turn and leave, she finally heard footsteps.
The door creaked open, revealing half a face: “What’s the matter?”
Liu Yu held out the chicken in her hand: “Comrade Wang Changping, thank you for saving me. My father asked me to bring you a chicken!”
Hearing Liu Yu’s words, the person inside finally came out, his tone still a bit indifferent: “No need. Saving you was just a small favor.”
Liu Yu took the chance to observe him. Wang Changping was probably under twenty, with short-cropped hair and a sharp, angular face. His thick eyebrows arched, and his dark, bright eyes glistened.
Liu Yu hadn’t expected such a respectable-looking person in Duobao Village. She began evaluating him in her mind: Wang Changping had a very dignified appearance. He was just a bit darker-skinned, but it was summer, and everyone was dark-skinned. He was definitely a handsome man with a charming rugged look.
“Saving a life is a huge favor, I must repay it. But my family is poor, so all I have is this Lu Hua chicken. I hope you will accept it.”
Liu Yu handed the chicken directly to him.
Wang Changping couldn’t refuse, so he accepted it. As they exchanged the chicken, Liu Yu touched his hand and felt something strange. His hand was burning hot, like a piece of charcoal.
“Comrade Wang, are you okay?”
Liu Yu became concerned for her savior.
Wang Changping shook his head, his skin flushing slightly, but because of his dark complexion, it wasn’t easy to notice. “It’s nothing serious, just a little fever.”
Liu Yu widened her eyes, thinking to herself: “In this era, everyone is tough as nails. Getting sick with a fever is no big deal?”
“Comrade, you really don’t care! Come here, let me check if you have a high fever. If it’s serious, I’ll take you to the health clinic.”
Liu Yu sighed. Without waiting for him to lean in, she took the initiative and reached out to touch his forehead.
She had sweated a lot, and her palms felt cool, but his forehead was burning hot. It was clear that Wang Changping had a high fever.
