Chapter 2: Beast, Animal

That night after the man left, a great fire broke out in the village—engulfing every house, even the village committee building. Many people died. It was because of that fire that Yi An’an finally escaped from Yan Dabao’s control. Holding her daughter’s ashes, she left the place that had imprisoned her for four years.

Later, the villagers said they had offended someone powerful.

So now, Yi An’an could only gamble—any man was better than Yan Dabao!

“Take off your clothes!” Yi An’an shouted in a low voice, roughly tugging open the man’s thin, patch-covered shirt. His wide shoulders and narrow waist were exposed. His dark skin had a sheen to it, glowing under the dim light with a wild, primal tension.

Perhaps the drug was taking effect—Yi An’an felt she could barely breathe. She wrapped her arms around the man’s slim waist, pressed her face against his chest, and whispered, “Marry me. Will you?”

The man’s breathing was irregular.

Yi An’an felt disappointed—so all men in this world were the same after all!

Clenching her teeth, just as she was about to remove her own clothes, the man suddenly pushed her away.

Yi An’an staggered and almost fell. She looked up and saw that his eyes were slightly red, his breath labored—his symptoms mirrored hers.

There were some dishes on the table, and a porcelain bowl was knocked over. Could it be…?

Yi An’an suddenly remembered a rumor. Years ago, a man labeled as a “bad element” was kept in the pigsty, and the village electrician’s daughter—who was mentally challenged—became obsessed with him, always running to the pigsty. Later, it was said the two had some sort of relationship. The villagers tried to force him to marry her. That winter, he jumped into the river outside the village, freezing himself into a cripple, incapable of functioning as a man. Only then was the marriage called off.

That same night, the Yan family village caught fire. The electrician and his daughter didn’t make it out.

Whether it was related to that “bad element” was still a mystery.

Yi An’an’s lips trembled as she looked at the restrained man.

Though his face was scarred, his features were still sharp and striking, with a high nose bridge and a tall, lean frame. At this moment, from the way he was holding back, veins bulged on his face and sweat dripped down his neck to his chest.

“Perfect. Let’s do this together!” Yi An’an lunged at him again, pushing him onto the table. The white porcelain bowl shattered on the ground.

The sound of the bowl breaking jolted the man back to clarity. He looked up at Yi An’an’s increasingly dazed expression, suddenly realizing something. His dark, cold eyes gleamed with icy light, full of sarcasm and contempt.

The next moment, just when Yi An’an was ready, her clothes were torn open—only to be met with a sudden, shocking chill.

In the corner of the pigsty was a water trough—for the pigs. The man, with no pity at all, threw her into it.

The bone-chilling cold made Yi An’an tremble all over. She instinctively tried to escape but was held down by the man, her face forced into the freezing water.

She swallowed a mouthful, struggled to lift her head, and glared furiously at him—but his cold sneer shook her to the core.

Even his mocking smile looked good—but his methods were brutal. She had just felt like she was going to drown!

Yi An’an, freezing and shivering, raised her hand and aimed a slap at his face.

The man caught her hand.

One hand. Then the other.

With both her hands restrained, her head was shoved underwater again.

Yi An’an thought she was going to die. The icy water flooded her eyes and ears. She thrashed wildly.

When she resurfaced, teeth clenched, she bit hard into the man’s shoulder and cursed him: “You animal! Beast!”

The man frowned. Who was really the beast here? Who was trying to force themselves on whom just now?

“Are they in there?” Voices came from outside—Yan Dabao’s voice.

Yi An’an, now fully awake, panicked.

Even if she escaped this time, there would be a next.

Because her mother would never give up.

And if she resisted, her paralyzed father—confined to a bed—would be mercilessly abused.

Only if Yan Dabao despised her and refused to marry her would she be free.

The man lifted Yi An’an out of the water trough—clearly wanting to disassociate himself from her.

Suddenly, Yi An’an kicked off her pants, leaving only a pair of large floral underwear, and threw herself at the man, clinging to him tightly. With a splash, they both sank back into the water.

Underwater, the man widened his eyes in disbelief, staring at Yi An’an, who held him down.

He had wanted to remain pure. This woman wanted to tie him down!

Yi An’an, helpless, looked at him with pleading eyes. Then, wrapping her pale, slender arms around his neck and pressing close, she said, “Choose now. Either you raped me and they’ll beat you to death, or you agree to date me. Pick one!”

Zhan Nan Hui hadn’t yet responded when more than a dozen people stormed into the pigsty—members of the Yan family and the electrician’s family, including the electrician’s daughter!

“An’an! What are you doing here?” A woman’s voice rang out.

It was a voice Yi An’an would never forget, even in her next life.

It belonged to her dear younger sister—Yi Jixiang.

In the Yi family, Yi Daping was the boss, and Yi Jixiang was the treasured little princess. Yi An’an, meanwhile, was treated like an old rag—used and discarded at will.

All because her father had been paralyzed in a work accident two years ago and lost all power in the household. Yi An’an’s current stepmother wasn’t her biological mother.

Yi Daping and Yi Jixiang were the biological children of this stepmother.

Yan Dabao wanted to marry Yi An’an because one day, Yi Jixiang had deliberately poured water on her, exposing her figure to Yan Dabao and sparking his lust.

Yi An’an had always known she was pretty and attracted attention—so she usually darkened her face and kept her hair messy.

Yi Jixiang wanted to ruin her because their father wanted to give Yi An’an a job selling pickles at the supply and marketing cooperative.

The cooperative only accepted girls. If Yi An’an married, Yi Jixiang would get the job instead.

Now, while Yi Jixiang pretended to care with sweet words, her eyes were gleaming with joy.

In her eyes, Yi An’an getting involved with the village’s lowest and most hated “bad element” was even better revenge than marrying her off to Yan Dabao!

At least Yan Dabao was the village chief’s son—his family ate meat regularly.

But marrying a “bad element”? That was true hell—Yi An’an would never escape it in this life!

“Sis, how could you be naked, hugging the village’s bad element? Didn’t Mom say you’re marrying Brother Dabao?” Yi Jixiang said gleefully.

Yan Dabao, seeing the scene, was furious. He stomped and shouted for his mother.

“You capitalist scum! You haven’t been reformed at all, and now you dare assault a good girl from our village? Everyone, come beat him to death!” Madam Yan screamed, trembling with rage at the sight before her.
