Li Xing’an’s stomach no longer allowed him to be modest. “Grandma, is this egg cake good?” he asked. The old woman lifted her eyelids. “It’s good. My granddaughter-in-law bought it for me, but my teeth aren’t great.”
“Can I have a taste? I rushed over at noon and haven’t eaten lunch yet!” Li Xing’an tried to curry favor, massaging the old woman’s legs. “That won’t do! After all this time, you haven’t even given me a piece of candy. You want to eat my egg cake? Not happening!” The old woman shook her head like a rattle.
He reached for a banana on the table; bananas were a rare treat. He had bought some for He Meina a few times but hadn’t dared eat one himself. The old man picked up his pipe and smacked it down on the Li Xing’an’s hand.
“Ouch!” Li Xing’an winced. “Grandpa, what are you doing?” “What are you doing?” The old man raised his eyebrows. “I just wanted to see what this is,” Li Xing’an tried to justify himself.
“Just look, don’t touch!” The old man was sharp; he knew exactly what Li Xing’an was up to. These fruits were precious, and he wouldn’t waste them on his gluttonous grandson.
“Grandpa, can’t I at least try?” Li Xing’an put on a wounded expression. “Try what? You can buy it yourself; I’m practically buried in debt! You don’t respect me while eating from my plate!” The old man dismissed him, anger flaring in his voice.
Li Xing’an was left speechless; it seemed that these days, he was in trouble everywhere! His family didn’t welcome him, and the old couple wouldn’t even give him a bite to eat! He needed to go to the temple tomorrow to pray!
Holding his stomach, he thickened his skin and went into the kitchen to rummage for food. As long as he didn’t bother the old couple, they wouldn’t care; after all, he was eating his eldest brother’s and sister-in-law’s food.
In the kitchen, he found noodles and eggs. He quickly cooked himself a large bowl of noodles and added an egg. The old couple watched, their eyelids twitching. Was this brat really eating their food?
Li Xing’an was genuinely hungry; he hadn’t eaten well these past few days. Meals at home had been erratic, and the meals at work were lacking in oil and flavor. In just two minutes, the large bowl of noodles with the egg was slurped down!
“Starved ghost reincarnated! Can’t do anything right, but always wants to eat, making it hard on the eldest!” The old woman grimaced, feeling sorry for her eldest son. The old man shook his head. Their eldest son and his wife were living a tough life, raising such a debt collector of a son.
Li Xing’an felt full and had no intention of leaving. The key was he had nowhere to go; anywhere he went, he would be pointed at and gossiped about. It was quieter here! After eating, he felt drowsy. After searching for Manman all night and returning to face his parents reprimands, he hadn’t slept well at all. He sat on a stool and dozed off. The old woman shot him a glare.
