Chapter 10

Ye Yao rubbed her shoulder as she walked home.

It was just a simple over-the-shoulder throw, yet she had twisted her arm. She really was useless.

“Oh, Ye Yao, what happened to you? Fell into a mud pit?”

She had barely taken a few steps before a neighbor from the compound stopped her, teasing.

Ye Yao lowered her head and looked at the mud on her clothes. In fact, it wasn’t just on her clothes—her face was probably just as dirty.

In her memory, these neighbors never had a shred of sympathy. They only enjoyed watching her and her mother suffer, delighting in her embarrassment.

She treated the woman speaking as if she were air, not sparing her a single glance.

The woman looked surprised and pursed her lips.

Ye Yao’s clothes were already drenched with sweat from exercising, and now, covered in mud, she felt utterly uncomfortable.

She quickened her pace, eager to get home.

Not far ahead, at the entrance of an alley, a group of people suddenly emerged.

To be precise, a few girls were cautiously surrounding a man.

The man stood tall, at least 1.8 meters, with a handsome face that seemed to glow under the morning sun.

Ye Yao was momentarily stunned. Then, the face resurfaced in her mind.

Li Cheng?!!

Her memories of this man were scarce.

Aside from his appearance, everything else she knew about him came from hearsay.

She had heard that he was the only university graduate in the compound, that he had started his own company after graduation without relying on his family.

She had heard that he was an exceptionally kind person, warm-hearted and gentle.

She had heard that he never fooled around with women and was incredibly loyal in relationships.

The more perfect a man seemed, the more problems he probably had.

But the biggest problem right now was that she was supposed to be his soon-to-be wife. And the last thing she wanted was to face him in this disheveled state while bringing up the topic of breaking off their engagement.

“Isn’t that Fat—Ye Yao?”

Before Ye Yao could react, one of the girls behind Li Cheng had already noticed her miserable appearance.

The next second, Li Cheng stopped walking.

All the girls turned to look at him, waiting for his reaction.

Look at that dirty, pig-like wretch—she actually dreams of marrying into the Li family. Now that Brother Li sees her in this humiliating state, he’ll definitely cancel the engagement!

Everyone in the compound knew that Li Cheng had only agreed to the engagement because of his father’s pressure.

A man like him could have any outstanding woman he wanted. How could he possibly be interested in a pig?

The girls, along with some nosy neighbors standing nearby, all widened their eyes in amusement, ready to watch the drama unfold.

Ye Yao, this is beyond embarrassing!

The mocking and disdainful gazes weighed heavily on her, but Ye Yao kept a blank expression. She withdrew her gaze from Li Cheng and walked forward.

“She’s coming over…”

“So disgusting. Did she fall into a manure pit?”

“If she tries to cling to Brother Li, we can’t let her succeed…”

Amidst the whispers of insults and hostile stares, Ye Yao remained indifferent. She walked past Li Cheng at an unhurried pace, her expression cold and unwavering.

From beginning to end, she didn’t even lift an eyelid.

Everyone stood frozen in place, dumbfounded.
