Rebirth in the ’90s: The Fat Wife Wants to Turn Her Life Around – Chapter 26

Chapter 26

“Mom, what’s wrong?”

Hearing the commotion from inside, Ye Yao walked out and was momentarily stunned when she saw Shen Yun standing at the door.

Although they weren’t familiar with each other, she still had an impression of this woman.

Li Cheng’s mother—her future mother-in-law.

But why had she come at this time?!

“Auntie Shen, you’re here. Please come in.”

She quickly regained her composure. Although she had the same thoughts as Zhang Qiufeng, she still maintained her manners and greeted Shen Yun properly.

Shen Yun was feeling awkward due to Zhang Qiufeng’s reaction, and Ye Yao’s appearance happened to ease the tension.

This girl was calmer than her mother—Shen Yun couldn’t help but take another look at her.

She seemed to have gained weight since the last time she saw her. With this body size, it would surely affect her health.

Before long, the three of them entered the house. Zhang Qiufeng managed to find some tea leaves at the bottom of a tea container.

Since she didn’t have the habit of drinking tea, she couldn’t even remember how long those tea leaves had been sitting there.

Just as she was about to pour them into the cup, Ye Yao reached out to stop her and shook her head.

“Plain water is fine.”

Zhang Qiufeng hesitated for a moment but still put the tea container down as Ye Yao suggested.

“Here, have some water.”

Shen Yun took the cup but set it aside.

Ye Yao had already expected this reaction.

“Auntie Shen, what brings you to our home?”

She skipped any unnecessary pleasantries and got straight to the point.

Shen Yun glanced at Zhang Qiufeng, then at Ye Yao, and smiled slightly.

“No need to be nervous. Do I look that scary?”

Because of Zhang Qiufeng’s reaction, the atmosphere in the room felt tense, so she made a lighthearted remark to ease it.

Zhang Qiufeng, looking at Shen Yun’s elegant and poised demeanor, found herself at a loss for words.

If someone like her wasn’t beautiful, then there wouldn’t be any beauties in the entire courtyard.

“Auntie Shen, you’re so beautiful and graceful. How could you be scary?”

Once again, it was Ye Yao who responded, while Zhang Qiufeng simply nodded along in agreement.

Shen Yun’s smile deepened. This girl didn’t seem to be quite like what she had heard.

“Yaoyao, may I call you that?”

“Of course.”

“Yao Yao, I came specifically to see you today.”

Shen Yun felt that this girl in front of her could be someone she could communicate with, so she didn’t waste time with small talk.

Ye Yao nodded. “I know. Please go ahead.”

She had already prepared herself for the possibility of being asked to break off the engagement.

“With your wedding to Li Cheng less than half a month away, I’ve heard about some of the things that have happened in your family recently.

But since all the troublemakers are of your generation, as an elder, it wasn’t my place to interfere directly.”

Shen Yun didn’t try to avoid the topic of her lack of involvement in their affairs during this time. She explained herself very seriously.

If these words had come from someone else, Ye Yao would have dismissed them as mere formalities, but for some reason, hearing them from this woman made her feel that she truly meant what she said.

“Do you blame me for that?”

Ye Yao shook her head indifferently. “These are my own issues, and I have the ability to handle them myself.”

Not to mention that she and Li Cheng weren’t even officially married yet—even if they were, she wouldn’t rely on the Li family to survive.

Shen Yun hadn’t expected such an answer. “I’m glad you think that way. You know, your engagement with Li Cheng was arranged by our parents when you were children. Before now, we, as elders, never really asked for either of your opinions…”
