Chapter 31
Zhao Qingqing walked along the deserted path. During the day, it hadn’t felt like anything, but now it seemed eerily quiet.
If she weren’t worried that bringing more people might make the man suspicious, she would have dragged her mother along.
Finally, she reached the small grove, but there wasn’t a single person in sight.
Feeling a little uneasy, she wondered—could Ye Yao have lied to her?
“Li Yukun, are you there? Ye Yao sent me to deliver a message.”
Since this place was a bit far from the compound, she wasn’t afraid of others overhearing.
As expected, the moment she finished speaking, a dark figure slowly “emerged” from the grove.
Her palms were sweaty from nervousness, but she let out a deep sigh of relief when she saw Li Yukun’s face.
Although she had never interacted with him directly, she had seen him wandering around the compound often enough to recognize him.
Li Yukun looked Zhao Qingqing up and down, his eyes filled with lecherous intent.
If he remembered correctly, her name was Zhao Qingqing. Her family was well-off in the compound, and they often helped Ye Yao’s family.
“Oh, so Ye Yao sent you. Where is she?”
As he spoke, he stretched his neck, glancing in the direction of the compound.
Other than her, there was no one else.
Zhao Qingqing shot him a dismissive glance. She already looked down on people from the village, let alone a man who was planning to elope with Ye Yao.
“She’s busy and can’t get away right now. She told me to bring her belongings ahead of time. She said you should wait for her here a little longer.”
With that, she handed him a small bundle.
Whether intentional or not, when Li Yukun took the bundle, his large hand brushed against Zhao Qingqing’s.
She instantly jerked her hand back, her face full of disgust.
Li Yukun, however, looked like he had just struck gold, grinning foolishly.
This girl was nothing like that fat pig. If he could be with someone like her, forget eloping—he’d be willing to go through hell and high water for her.
“I’ve delivered the message. I’m leaving now.”
Zhao Qingqing felt sick just standing there for another second.
Seeing her look of disdain, Li Yukun’s mind heated up. In one swift move, he stepped in front of her, blocking her way.
“Qingqing, I haven’t finished talking yet.”
Zhao Qingqing glared at him. “How do you know my name?”
“How could I not know the name of such a beautiful girl? You look even prettier when you’re angry.”
A deserted path, a secluded grove, a delicate beauty who had walked right up to him—Li Yukun, already tipsy from drinking, found it impossible to resist his lust.
Zhao Qingqing became more alert, panic flashing in her eyes as she took a step back, putting distance between them.
It was only now that she smelled the alcohol on him.
“You’ve been drinking?”
Damn it, this man was planning to elope, yet he still had the mood to drink?
Li Yukun blew into his palm and sniffed it.
“Heh, Qingqing, are you worried about me?”
“Of course not! Ye Yao will be here any moment now. You should sober up quickly.”
Zhao Qingqing forced herself to stay calm, trying to remind him—or rather, warn him.
But what she didn’t expect was for Li Yukun to snort coldly.
“Who cares about that fat pig? If you’d just look at me properly, I’d ditch her right now!”
He had finally gotten such a good opportunity to get close to her. How could he possibly let it go?
On any other day, hearing such words might have made Zhao Qingqing secretly happy, but right now, she only wanted to escape…
