Chapter 39
The neighbors exchanged glances, unsure of what to say in such a situation.
Zhao Jianshe grabbed Wang Guihua’s shoulders, gritting his teeth in anger.
“Are you crazy? Apologize! Apologize to Qiufeng right now!”
Wang Guihua’s expression twisted with rage as she deliberately slowed her speech.
“I am crazy—driven mad by you two shameless adulterers!”
She had endured for over ten years, but at this moment, she had no intention of holding back, not even for the sake of her daughter!
“I’ll kill you!”
In his fury, Zhao Jianshe raised his arm abruptly.
But instead of dodging, Wang Guihua leaned her face forward.
“Go on, hit me! If you dare, then hit me! You’ve long since stopped caring about this family anyway!”
“Jianshe, calm down! You’re not young anymore, don’t act on impulse!”
The neighbors hurried to intervene.
Zhao Jianshe’s expression wavered, and in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to strike her.
Seeing this, Wang Guihua became even more emboldened and turned back to Zhang Qiufeng.
“Zhang Qiufeng, you wretched homewrecker! Are you satisfied now? You stole my husband, and your daughter set up my daughter! You mother and daughter are both despicable! You both deserve to be struck by lightning!”
Her curses grew louder and harsher, practically screaming at the top of her lungs, determined to let the entire courtyard hear her.
Zhao Jianshe’s face was livid with embarrassment. Listening to her venomous words, he wished he could crawl into a hole.
A street brawl like this was utterly disgraceful!
It was humiliating—utterly humiliating!
The neighbors could hold Wang Guihua back physically, but they couldn’t shut her up, so they could only let her vent.
Zhang Qiufeng’s face turned deathly pale, her mind buzzing in chaos.
Just then, the wooden door was suddenly kicked open with a loud bang!
Wang Guihua’s furious tirade finally came to a temporary halt.
Everyone turned their heads in unison toward the doorway.
Ye Yao stepped inside, gripping a thick wooden stick.
Her face was devoid of emotion, yet her presence sent an inexplicable chill through everyone’s hearts.
For some reason, this version of Ye Yao felt terrifying.
The moment Zhang Qiufeng saw her, her tears flowed even harder. But after a brief moment, realization struck her, and her face filled with anxiety. She hurriedly ran over, grabbing Ye Yao’s arm, her voice trembling violently.
“Yao Yao, I’m fine! Please, go back outside!”
She could endure this humiliation alone.
Besides, Wang Guihua wouldn’t let her off so easily.
Ye Yao’s gaze fell on Zhang Qiufeng’s disheveled hair and the red handprint on her face. The muscles around her mouth twitched slightly.
“She hit you.”
Four simple words, yet they carried an icy chill.
Ye Yao had already overheard everything in the alley just now.
Wang Guihua!
Today, she absolutely wouldn’t let her go!
A murderous glint flashed in Ye Yao’s eyes!
Zhang Qiufeng was flustered by her ferocious expression. “Yao Yao, I’m fine! Please, just listen—”
But Ye Yao coldly pulled her arm away, slowly raising her head to look at Wang Guihua.
Wang Guihua’s face twisted with rage when she saw Ye Yao.
“Ye Yao! You little wench, you actually have the audacity to come back! Last night, you set up Qingqing—you’re truly venomous! You’ve eaten and lived in our home for so many years, even a dog would know gratitude!
You’re worse than a dog! Pah!”
She spat toward Ye Yao, the saliva arcing through the air and landing just inches from Ye Yao’s feet.
Zhao Jianshe wished he could knock Wang Guihua unconscious and drag her away. As an elder, how could she say something so vile to a child…?
But Ye Yao suddenly let out a soft chuckle.
“Heh, hehe.”
She started laughing…
