Chapter 48
Life returned to normal.
Ye Yao’s daily routine was simple and consistent—morning run, breakfast, cleaning the courtyard, lunch, exercise, and dinner.
In the blink of an eye, ten days had passed.
Seeing that her waistband had loosened by a whole finger’s width, she was so thrilled that she almost let out a cheer.
It had been twenty days since she decided to lose weight.
Without a scale or a full-length mirror at home, the only way she could check herself was through the reflection in the water tank.
Although she still looked mostly the same, she felt truly satisfied.
As long as she kept up her efforts, a slimmer figure was within reach.
“Ye Yao, going out for a run again?”
“Yeah.”
Exchanging a quick greeting with a neighbor in the courtyard, Ye Yao began her run.
With renewed motivation, she pushed herself to run even farther than before, only stopping when she was completely exhausted.
A few meters away, a small river flowed gently. Without thinking, she dragged her tired legs over.
The cool river water soothed her instantly as she took a sip.
She took off her shoes and dipped her feet into the water, enjoying the refreshing sensation.
The surroundings were quiet, with not a single soul in sight. Ye Yao stretched lazily.
But after a moment, something felt off.
Why did this place seem so familiar?!
Looking left and right, her gaze finally settled on the river before her.
This was…
The place where she had “accidentally fallen into the water” before!
Ye Yao’s expression darkened as the memories resurfaced.
That day, she had come here to do laundry. Just before she fell into the water, she had clearly heard footsteps behind her. She had intended to turn around and look, but before she could react, she was shoved in with great force.
She couldn’t swim and struggled for a long time in the water until she lost consciousness…
She hadn’t fallen in by accident—someone had tried to kill her. But even now, she had no clue who the culprit was.
The person who wanted her dead the most was likely Zhao Qingqing, but did she really have the guts to do something like that?
Until she found out the truth, she wouldn’t be at peace.
“Ye Yao, it really is you!”
A sudden voice, full of excitement, rang out from behind her.
Ye Yao’s brows furrowed. Without even turning around, she knew exactly who it was.
Li Yukun strode toward her in just a few steps.
He had been wandering outside the courtyard for days, eager to find out how things had turned out.
Did he still have a chance with Zhao Qingqing?
Ye Yao calmly put on her shoes and stood up.
Li Yukun glanced at her and, for a moment, seemed stunned.
She looked… different from before?
He squinted, scrutinizing her carefully.
But on closer inspection, nothing really seemed to have changed. She was still so fat that it was disgusting.
“I clearly warned you,” Ye Yao said coldly.
If this was supposed to be a coincidence, she wasn’t buying it. This scumbag was obviously stalking her.
Li Yukun was completely unprepared for her harsh attitude.
She used to obey his every word, acting as if she couldn’t live without him.
Since when did this fat girl learn how to play hard to get?
And about what happened last time…
“Ye Yao, how can you talk to me like this? That night, I even risked my own reputation to protect you. Seeing you act like this now… it really hurts me.”
He had already heard that her engagement with the Li family had been postponed for six months.
They said it was postponed, but wasn’t it just a polite way of saying the Li family didn’t want her anymore?
