Rebirth in the ’90s: The Fat Wife Wants to Turn Her Life Around – Chapter 77

Chapter 77

Watching Ye Yao disappear into the distance, the two young men finally collapsed onto the ground, looking utterly defeated.

Their faces were ashen—one worse than the other.

They had taken the money and agreed to ruin that fat girl’s face, but in the end, they hadn’t even managed to touch a single strand of her hair.

And an opportunity like this would only come once. If they ran into her again, they would be the ones in trouble.

“Boss, what do we do now?”

“What the hell can we do? We’re screwed!”

Ye Yao’s head buzzed, and apart from the sound of the wind, she couldn’t hear anything else.

Seeing the entrance of the compound just ahead, her legs moved even faster.

She was like a gust of “hurricane,” rushing straight into the courtyard. Her speed was so astonishing that even the gatekeeper couldn’t help but click his tongue in surprise.

Ye Yao’s subconscious told her she was safe, but she soon realized—tragically—that she couldn’t control her legs anymore.

“Move! Get out of the way!”

She shouted at the people ahead, her vision spinning.

Stop, stop, stop now!

She finally slowed down just before crashing into someone.

As her nerves relaxed, so did her completely exhausted body. She collapsed onto the ground in an utterly disgraceful manner.

Every muscle in her body throbbed violently, making her feel as if she were being torn apart.

Soon, a small crowd of curious neighbors gathered around her.

“Ye Yao, you’re really going all out, huh?”

“Ye Yao, weight loss takes time. You can’t rush it!”

Ye Yao kept her eyes shut, silently cursing those two guys hundreds of times in her heart.

“Li Cheng, you’re here just in time! Talk some sense into Ye Yao—she’s training herself into the ground!”

At the sudden mention of a familiar name, Ye Yao let out a silent scream.

Why was it always him who saw her at her most embarrassing moments?

Did the heavens think she hadn’t humiliated herself enough?

Still, she kept her eyes closed, pretending to be unconscious.

“Ye Yao? Can you hear us?”

“Did she faint?”

The first question came from the neighbors, while the second was their speculation.

“Li Cheng, say something! Should we take her to the hospital?”

Someone quickly grew anxious and suggested this.

At the mention of the word “hospital,” Ye Yao’s eyes shot open in an instant.

And the first thing she saw was Li Cheng’s incredibly handsome—but completely expressionless—face.

“I’m fine. I’m perfectly fine.”

She quickly averted her gaze, startled by the number of people around her.

Why was there such a huge crowd?

“Ye Yao, you scared us to death!”

Seeing that she was okay, the crowd finally breathed a collective sigh of relief.

Ye Yao sat up, patted the dust off her clothes, and tried to stand. But the moment she moved, her calf cramped painfully.

“Hiss—”

She sucked in a sharp breath, her eyes welling up from the pain. Still, she forced a smile and waved at the neighbors.

“Everyone, you can leave now. I just ran a bit too hard and got exhausted. I need to rest—nothing to see here.”

As she spoke, she aggressively massaged her cramping leg, her expression twisting in pain.

Hearing this, the neighbors felt awkward staying any longer and soon dispersed.

Ye Yao bared her teeth in agony, and when she looked up, she realized the one person who should’ve left was still standing there.

“Haven’t you had enough of watching me embarrass myself? Get lost already!”

She was in too much pain, and her mood was foul—so of course, she had no patience for him.
