Chapter 8
The school doctor treated the injuries of the two people. He also glanced at Yu Shiying twice and felt puzzled.
She was obviously a very pretty girl, but she slapped the other student so hard that she almost knocked out her teeth.
After thanking the school doctor, Yu Shiying went to find her homeroom teacher.
Having agreed to go home for dinner tonight, Yu Shiying has to ask for leave from her homeroom teacher, Teacher Zhang.
Nowadays, students, even locals, are required to live on campus, obey the school’s management, and are not allowed to go out at will.
Teacher Zhang looked at the scar on Yu Shiying’s neck where mercurochrome was applied, shook his head helplessly, and approved the leave note.
—–
As the sun sets, the orange-red light shines on the old residential building, lengthening her figure.
When I opened the door, the aroma of food hit my nose.
In the kitchen, Sun Xiangping was busy, with some oil stains on her apron.
Yu Qianlin sat on the sofa in the living room with a newspaper in his hand.
“Shiying, you’re back!” Sun Xiangping’s gentle voice came from the kitchen.
“Mom, I’m back,” she responded, put on her slippers and walked into the living room.
Yu Qianlin immediately stood up and asked with concern: “Shiying, were you okay last night?”
Yu Shiying shook her head, “It’s okay, Dad, I’m fine.”
Yu Qianlin saw the scars on his neck and asked, “What happened?” His tone was full of worry.
Yu Shiying smiled and said, “It’s nothing, Dad. I was just on an outing with my classmates and got lost. This wound was scratched by a branch.”
She chose her words carefully, not wanting to worry her parents: “Luckily, we met a kind captain who brought us back safely.”
“That’s good. Be careful next time.” Yu Qianlin walked to Yu Shiying and gently patted his daughter’s shoulder with his big hand. His eyes fell on the glaring red on his daughter’s neck, and his brows frowned slightly, but he didn’t ask any more questions in the end.
Sun Xiangping came out of the kitchen carrying the last dish of braised pork. The steaming hot and rich aroma of the sauce instantly filled the entire cabin.
“Xiaoying, come and try the braised pork made by your father. Haven’t you been thinking about it for a long time?” Her voice was gentle, like a spring breeze, with a hint of soothing.
There were four dishes and a soup on the table, all of which were home-cooked dishes, but they were still steaming, obviously having just come out of the pot.
The braised pork is bright red in color, with alternating fat and lean parts, and exudes an attractive luster.
Yu Shiying saw the plate of braised pork at a glance, her eyes sparkling.
Sun Xiangping served her a bowl of rice and a large piece of braised pork, then said with a smile, “Eat more. You’ve lost weight.”
Yu Qianlin also sat down and picked up his chopsticks, but he didn’t rush to pick up the food. Instead, he looked at Yu Shiying, seeming to want to say something but stopping himself.
Yu Shiying knew her father’s temperament. He wasn’t good at expressing himself, and all his care was hidden in his actions. She smiled at her father, picked up the braised pork and took a bite. The meat was stewed to tenderness and flavor, fat but not greasy, lean but not dry, full of the taste of home.
“It’s delicious, Dad. Your cooking skills are getting better and better.”
Seeing Yu Shiying’s smiling eyes, Yu Qianlin finally smiled, picked up the chopsticks and picked up a piece of meat for himself.
While eating, Sun Xiangping picked up some food for Yu Shiying and kept muttering, “Eat more vegetables, it’s a balanced diet… This fish soup is good, you should drink more, it will nourish your body…”
Yu Shiying ate her meal in silence, feeling the love and care from her parents, her heart warmed. At the dinner table, the family chatted about trivial matters, all of which were filled with warmth and happiness.
Yu Shiying raised her head from time to time, secretly glanced at her father sitting opposite her, and then at her mother beside her, her heart full of gratitude.
It’s great to be able to live again and still feel the family love that I missed in my previous life.
Yu Shiying thanked God in her heart for not only giving her a good appearance, but also giving her a warm home.
Yu Shiying returned home this time intending to confess to her parents her love for her brother. She was afraid that Hu Shudan might go crazy and spread rumors, so she decided to embellish the story with her own words so that her parents would be able to accept it.
“Dad, Mom, I have something I want to tell you. Ever since my brother left home to go to university in Beijing, we only see each other a few times a year.
You know, I have been very dependent on my brother since I was a child, so now, I feel very lost when I don’t see him often.
I wrote about my longing for my brother in my diary, but a roommate found it and insisted that I liked my brother. She often used this to threaten me, asking me to wash her clothes and help her with her homework, and she also kept saying bad things about me behind my back.
I had a very unhappy argument with her, but I also want to ask my parents, is this really love?”
In the eyes of her parents, Yu Shiying is just an 18-year-old child.
Throwing these questions to her adoptive parents is like a child who is ignorant about feelings seeking help from her parents. Yu Shiying believes that they will not say anything to hurt her.
Yu Shiying saw surprise and confusion in Sun Xiangping’s eyes, but no disgust.
She knew that she was right. This family really treated Yu Shiying as their own daughter.
“This child, how could he…” Sun Xiangping put down his chopsticks, the smile on his face gradually disappeared, replaced by a complicated expression.
She looked at Yu Shiying hesitantly, then at her husband Yu Qianlin, as if she wanted to say something but didn’t know how to start.
To put it mildly, I’m afraid that Yu Shiying won’t be able to properly handle the vague and immature love between men and women. To put it harshly, it would be even worse if it makes my daughter develop a rebellious mentality.
Sun Xiangping felt that she hadn’t guided Yu Shiying well enough in her relationship life. She always thought her daughter was still young, focusing on her food, clothing, and studies, but rarely talking to her. It was true, that brat Yu Jin had been in a relationship for a year, and Shiying was already 18 years old.
Yu Qianlin had been listening silently and now put down his bowl and chopsticks. He pursed his lips tightly, his eyes moving back and forth between Yu Shiying and Sun Xiangping. After thinking for a long time, he spoke:
“Shiying, you’re still young, so you might not be able to clearly distinguish certain emotions. Just like a newly born bird, it will always cling to the first person it sees and is closest to. This is an instinct and a habit.
You grew up with Jin, he took care of you and protected you, so it’s normal for you to feel dependent on him and feel close to him, but this isn’t the kind of love between a man and a woman, do you understand?”
As he spoke, he stretched out his big hand and gently patted Yu Shiying’s shoulder. His eyes softened as he tried to soothe his daughter’s emotions.
Sun Xiangping also seemed to have found a suitable way to express himself, and quickly continued:
“Yes, Shiying, your father is right. Your feelings for Ajin are more like a sister’s attachment to her brother, the kind of affection for family members. You are still young, and you will meet more people in the future, and you will understand what true love is like.”
In nature, chicks will identify the first living thing they see as their mother. This concept applies to humans, as chicks do, and we tend to develop a special fondness for the first significant member of the opposite sex we meet.
Many people have this kind of chick complex, and there is no need to feel ashamed of it.
Seeing the relieved smile on Yu Shiying’s face, Yu Qianlin and Sun Xiangping also breathed a sigh of relief.
