Chapter 45: Rescue is Here!
However, not everyone they invited responded.
And among those who did respond, not everyone agreed to come.
In the end, only Ling Feng’s team and Song Chengjun with a few of his power users arrived.
Among everyone present, Chu Jiangyue was the only female, naturally drawing a lot of attention.
Yet nobody questioned her abilities. After all, she had already demonstrated considerable strength back at Jianglin Hotel.
While waiting for the others to arrive, Chu Jiangyue took out a bottle of yogurt from her system backpack, sipping it as she waited.
About twenty minutes later, Ling Feng and Song Chengjun arrived, each leading their team.
They were somewhat surprised to see Chu Jiangyue.
“Boss Chu is here too?”
None of them had expected her to be present.
“Staying in the hotel all the time isn’t good. I just felt like coming out for a bit of fresh air.”
Both Song Chengjun and Ling Feng fell silent. Calling a zombie-hunting mission “fresh air” could probably only be said by Chu Jiangyue herself.
Even Shen Zhigui and his team felt a little embarrassed. Boss Chu really was different—even her idea of “fresh air” wasn’t like anyone else’s.
“Do you need time to rest? If not, we can head into the school now.”
To prevent the zombies from leaving, they decided not to open the gates and instead, like before, would climb over the walls.
“No need. Our powers haven’t even been used yet; we’re at full strength. But… I do have a small request.”
When Song Chengjun learned that Shen Zhigui’s team had arrived at a school, he had been thinking about something.
“Captain Song, go ahead.”
As long as it wasn’t an excessive request, they were happy to accommodate.
“If there are still surviving teachers and students inside the school, I hope you all can help us escort them safely to Jianglin Hotel.”
After a battle, Song Chengjun wasn’t certain how many powers he would have left. Escorting survivors alone would make them too conspicuous.
“Of course. Even if you hadn’t asked, we would have done it.”
Shen Zhigui agreed immediately.
Escorting people to Jianglin Hotel would increase their business, so Chu Jiangyue had no reason to object.
Ling Feng had already shown high awareness when he reported the Jianglin Hotel situation to the B City Security Base without hesitation, so he didn’t refuse Song Chengjun’s request either.
With that settled, the group wasted no more time. They each chose their positions and displayed their powers to scale the walls.
“Whoa! There really are a lot of zombies.”
They weren’t unaware of the zombie density in the school—they just hadn’t encountered so many during previous outings.
“Let’s split up and converge on the classroom building from different directions?”
Everyone present had powers at Level 2, so dealing with low-level or Level 1 zombies was no problem.
Shen Zhigui nodded slightly—it was a good idea.
No one objected. Chu Jiangyue picked a position, activated her power, and began linking zombies with her vines.
Ling Feng and Song Chengjun’s teams had never seen anyone kill zombies this way. At first, their expressions were priceless.
But over time, they got used to it. Now seeing Chu Jiangyue stringing zombies, they could remain calm and composed.
The saying “strength in numbers” was not an exaggeration.
Previously, Shen Zhigui’s team and Chu Jiangyue had struggled a little when killing zombies. Now, they could even advance their attack while fighting.
To save time and preserve powers, they aimed to kill zombies in one strike, wasting no energy.
In a place where they couldn’t see, a figure quickly left the corner of the classroom building.
“Teacher! Teacher! We’re going to be saved!”
The fleeting figure was one of the students sent earlier to scout the zombies.
Awakened with wind-type powers, he was fast and thus sent to scout.
Previously, he had only seen zombies across the campus. Today, however, he stumbled upon unexpected developments.
“What? Is it a rescue team? Where are they?”
Hearing him, many looked over.
They had been trapped with no way out. If no one came, they would all die there.
“I don’t know if it’s a rescue team, but I saw several power users killing zombies inside the school.”
They hadn’t been able to leave because there were too many zombies inside.
Not every surviving student or teacher had powers. The few awakened students alone couldn’t protect everyone.
Now, however, reinforcements had arrived.
“Really? They’re killing the zombies inside?”
“Of course! I saw it with my own eyes.”
The wind-powered student spoke with certainty.
“That’s great! Even if they’re not a rescue team, as long as the zombies inside the school are taken care of, we’re saved.”
Escaping the school meant they could find supplies. Even if they couldn’t find family immediately, they wouldn’t fall into despair.
“We have to let them know we’re still alive!”
They had been trapped since the virus outbreak and had no idea what was happening outside.
If those killing zombies could be trusted, they could follow them for now.
“Let’s go help! There are too many zombies inside. If they can’t kill them all, we still won’t get out.”
The awakened students stood up. They knew that in this fight against zombies, they could only win.
“No! You still have to stay and protect us! What if zombies attack when you go out?”
Someone opposed the idea.
“But if they go out, they can kill zombies faster. Then we can leave the school sooner.”
“Their responsibility is to protect us. Let the outsiders handle killing the zombies. Once they finish, they can escort us home.”
Many were astonished by what the girl said.
“Who do you think you are, asking others to take you home? Do they even know you?”
In school, people often spoke bluntly when things didn’t seem right. Many felt she was saying what they were thinking.
“But they’re saving us—shouldn’t saving people be done thoroughly?”
The girl saw nothing wrong with her statement.
Many rolled their eyes at her. They didn’t expect anyone to have such peculiar thoughts.
“I’m not arguing with you. I think our plan is fine. Leave one or two power users to protect you. The rest come with me to kill zombies.”
Before, their numbers were few and strength limited, so they didn’t dare confront head-on.
Now that reinforcements had arrived and their powers had improved, the outcome of this battle was uncertain.
“You… you won’t regret this!”
“We just want to act with a clear conscience.”
