Chapter 7: Mental Breakdown
“Someone who can run a hotel in times like these, how could you think she’s weak?”
Next to Shen Zhigui, a bespectacled young man didn’t hold back and shot back sharply.
Only Shen Zhigui, watching Chu Jiangyue slaughter zombies with precise efficiency, fell into deep thought.
Chu Jiangyue killed zombies and distributed flyers all the way, only starting her return when she began to feel fatigued.
However, on the way back, she ran into some obstacles.
“Brother Wen’an, it’s her! She kicked me this morning! You have to avenge me!”
Liu Yiyi, accompanied by a man, blocked Chu Jiangyue’s path.
“Host, host, this person is the male lead, Zheng Wen’an! Can we be a bit gentler when dealing with him? He can’t die for now.”
This world had just entered the apocalypse. Power levels were unstable. If the male lead died, this world would be on the verge of total collapse.
“‘Can’t die for now’… does that mean he can die later?”
“I…I didn’t say anything…”
The little fox realized it might have slipped up and quickly covered its mouth, stammering.
Chu Jiangyue didn’t push it; she just had a slight upward curve at the corner of her lips.
Male lead?
Looking at him, he didn’t seem impressive at all. His face wasn’t even as good-looking as Shen Zhigui’s.
“Don’t block the way.”
Chu Jiangyue tightened her grip on her Tang Dao. As long as the male lead didn’t obstruct her, she wouldn’t mind.
“Yiyi says you kicked her several times. You must apologize to Yiyi!”
“Apologize? Why don’t you ask what she did first?”
Zheng Wen’an frowned slightly. “Yiyi never lies. If you don’t apologize, don’t blame me for being unkind!”
Zheng Wen’an had always been the type of person everyone praised, and today, for the first time, someone challenged him. It made him uncomfortable.
Seeing Zheng Wen’an act like this, Chu Jiangyue really doubted this world’s choice of a male lead.
“If you won’t move, then… die!” With that, Chu Jiangyue raised her Tang Dao and swung toward Zheng Wen’an’s neck.
“Host! The male lead can’t die!”
Zheng Wen’an did have some skill. Seeing Chu Jiangyue’s blade coming down, he flinched and quickly dodged to the side.
Chu Jiangyue’s real intention wasn’t to hit him, just to make him get out of the way.
So when Zheng Wen’an dodged, Chu Jiangyue swiftly eased her swing, stepping past both him and Liu Yiyi and moving forward quickly.
A zombie lunged at her head-on, and Chu Jiangyue dispatched it with another swing.
By the time she returned to the hotel, it was already evening.
After six, Chu Jiangyue closed the hotel door without any psychological burden and went to her room on the second floor to wash up.
Because she had killed zombies all day, she washed several times before finally feeling clean.
When she came out of the bathroom, an hour had passed.
“Host! You almost killed the male lead today!”
It had been terrified—if the male lead died, it would have to be remade! It had just been “released from the factory”!
“Who said I was going to kill him? If I don’t act decisively, how else will he get out of the way? This male lead… who picked him? Are you sure your eyes work properly?”
“…“
Shutting down…
“Speechless, right? I told you, you have terrible taste in choosing male leads. Look at Shen Zhigui—no, even the glasses-wearing guy next to him is more reliable than this Zheng Wen’an!”
Liu Yiyi was such a pure white lotus, and he actually told her: “Yiyi never lies!”
Oh my god! I’m crying!
“Host, stop talking! I didn’t choose this male lead either; I didn’t know he would turn out like this.”
The little fox felt it might need to be remade.
“It’s fine. If the male lead is useless, we still have the female lead. Maybe she’ll be effective? If the female lead kicks the male lead, we can’t be blamed, right?”
Seeing the little fox’s mindset about to collapse, Chu Jiangyue quickly comforted it—this was only the beginning; everything was still uncertain.
“You… you’re right! I must find the female lead as soon as possible!”
This male lead was just… unbearable!
The little fox now felt a chill in its heart. Only the female lead could save its wounded soul.
Day 2 of the apocalypse.
Chu Jiangyue woke naturally and saw it was 9:30, still before her designated work time, and leisurely got up and washed up.
When she went downstairs, she found several people standing outside the hotel.
What the…?
As she opened the hotel door, a crowd rushed in like a swarm.
“Are there really buns and meat buns?”
“I heard from a nearby boss that the flyers were all true?”
“I have money! I’ll buy however many buns and meat buns you have!”
…
The noisy chatter gave Chu Jiangyue a headache.
“Stop! Everyone shut up! Line up! Those who don’t, suffer the consequences!”
Chu Jiangyue used her inner energy to emit a Lion’s Roar, finally suppressing the crowd.
“If you want to buy something, recharge here. I won’t stop you from buying as much as you want.”
No matter how much they bought, she could make a profit. She had enough supply.
The first person was a tall, thin young man who, with anticipation, held out a… ragged metal bowl.
Even a beggar’s bowl from before the apocalypse would’ve looked newer.
Chu Jiangyue didn’t comment. Her flyer had stated that she would accept scrap metal, but it didn’t promise how many copper coins it would yield.
【Detected: scrap metal bowl ×1. Giving 1 copper coin is already generous. Exchange for 0.5 copper coin? Yes/No】
It was the first time Chu Jiangyue saw her exchange device snub someone—and it felt kind of satisfying.
“0.5 copper coin? Are you kidding me!”
The tall, thin man glared angrily at her.
“Can’t you see? It’s a scrap metal bowl. 1 copper coin is already too much. Giving 0.5 is because you’re a new customer. Exchange or not? If not, take your stuff and leave—others are waiting!”
“Yeah, yeah! You brought a broken bowl, and the boss isn’t stupid!”
“Exactly! Tried to cheat, didn’t work, and now you’re mad!”
Survivors still had some sense of fairness. Seeing the tall guy act out, many others spoke up against him.
The tall guy glared at Chu Jiangyue but finally chose “Yes.” Even 0.5 copper coin was still copper coins. The device also gave him a “first purchase identity card.”
Having failed to cheat, he could only obediently take out valuable items to exchange.
【Detected: low-purity metal block. Can exchange for 200 copper coins. Exchange? Yes/No】
“This is gold! Real gold! How can it be only 200 copper coins? I’d sell it for more in the market!”
Before the apocalypse, gold prices were high. He would have waited for a higher price otherwise.
Now the device said such a large gold piece was only worth 200 copper coins! The disparity was shocking. How could he accept it?
“All exchanges are based on the device’s quotation. If the customer is dissatisfied, they may choose not to exchange.”
It was a seller’s market anyway. Chu Jiangyue didn’t care about losing this small exchange.
