Chapter 15: Humanity’s Limit: Rank 6 Mage, DeanCliff
The next morning, Rein woke up to find his beloved was no longer by his side.
He lifted the golden silk quilt, and Eve entered with several personal maids, her timing perfect.
The maids then began helping Rein put on his academy uniform.
Cecily quietly waited to one side, pushing the breakfast cart.
Eve stood nearby and reported to Rein.
“Young Master, you must first go to the academy’s Mage Tower this morning to study with the mages, and in the afternoon your fiancée, Miss Adele, will come to visit you.”
“Uncle Jonas instructed me to inform you that if you have classes in the afternoon, you should ask for leave; otherwise, return early.”
With Cecily on one side and Alice on the other, Rein gradually finished his lavish breakfast.
Alice took a white silk handkerchief to wipe the remaining food from Rein’s mouth, and Rein nodded at Eve.
“All right, I understand.”
Rein looked at the fluttering maidens around him, scooped up the one standing nearest, Alice, and kissed her.
This caused Alice to blush deeply as her heart raced.
Seeing Alice lower her head in embarrassment, Rein pinched her cheek and then released her, and they went downstairs together with Eve.
On the staircase, Rein gave Eve his instructions.
“Eve, I heard from my coachman Drake that there’s some auction this week, something called An…”
Eve prompted from the side, “The Anderson Auction.”
Rein nodded, “Yes, the Anderson Auction. Cancel everything for me that day; I want to have some fun.”
Eve smiled and nodded.
“Understood. I will keep track of the auction in five days. The invitation was sent to the family head a month ago, so that day, Young Master, you simply need to ask him directly.”
Rein nodded, gave Eve a goodbye kiss, and then set off for the academy by carriage.
As he walked, he heard a commotion at a morning newspaper stand.
“The Empire’s prodigy mage Young Master Rein’s fame-making battle… detailed report, first come, first served!”
“Young Master Rein? The Young Master Rein from House Gray? His fame-making battle?”
“Don’t you know? Yesterday, Young Master Rein displayed his prowess in the academy’s dueling arena, defeating the long-renowned Damon Mick.”
“Yes, yes, I heard that Young Master Rein’s elemental magic was so masterful that Damon had no chance to fight back.”
“Really? There’s such a thing? Oh, I drank too much the day before yesterday and slept all day yesterday. Ah, drinking spoils everything… otherwise, I would have gone to see it live.”
Hearing the surprise and praise from those around him, the coachman, Drake, couldn’t help but straighten his posture.
“Look, it’s the carriage of House Gray!”
“Where? Where?”
“There.”
A crowd immediately turned their gaze to Rein’s carriage.
Seeing their astonished and reverent expressions, Drake slowly drove the carriage away from the crowd and pulled up at the academy entrance.
“Young Master, we have arrived at the academy.”
Drake’s driving remained steady and swift, so Rein barely noticed how long the journey had taken.
Hearing Drake’s voice, Rein opened the carriage door and slowly got out.
The moment he stepped down, a group of academy students looked at him with awe, envy, and other mixed expressions.
After all, Rein was no longer the worthless young man he used to be.
He proved with his actions that he, Rein, was a genius mage of the Dharma Decline Era.
He relied on that very Sword of Damocles.
Rein’s combat rating at the academy was now almost as high as Sophia, the most gifted warrior in recent years.
Rein straightened his collar and, under the reverent stares, walked into the academy, slowly making his way to the Mage Tower.
As the saying goes, fame invites trouble.
Because Rein was already handsome and his reputation had improved, his romantic prospects naturally became even more abundant.
Occasionally as he walked, pretty junior and senior students would shyly approach and give Rein love letters.
Rein accepted every one with a smile, causing the girls who gave him letters to blush even deeper.
This caused some of the nearby male students to grind their teeth in jealousy and even quietly consider forming an anti-Rein alliance.
Rein arrived at the Mage Tower to find Dean Cliff already waiting.
“Dean?”
Rein spoke to Cliff, who was sitting in a rocking chair at the Mage Tower entrance.
Only Dean Cliff could be so leisurely in the solemn halls of the Mage Tower.
“Ah, Rein, you’re here.”
Cliff rose from the rocking chair and handed Rein a paper bordered in gold.
“Here, this is the schedule prepared for you. Unless there are any changes, these will be your courses this semester.”
Rein took it and looked it over, finding it similar to the schedule he had at university.
The only difference was that he had classes every morning, while his afternoons were still free.
Seeing that the person teaching him today was DeanCliff, Rein raised an eyebrow.
After putting away the schedule, he said to Cliff.
“So today, Master Dean will be giving me the lesson in person?”
Dean Cliff was the highest-ranked mage in both the academy and the entire Empire, a Rank 6 mage on the same level as his father, Fude.
According to Rein, Dean excelled in four magical disciplines… space, water, wood, and healing… with space magic as his primary focus.
“Yes, during your duel yesterday, the phrase ‘restore magic to the pinnacle of the world’ truly spoke to my heart and reminded me of my disciple.”
“It made me consider taking on a new disciple.”
A faint glint of thought appeared in Dean’s eyes.
Rein was somewhat confused… Dean had a disciple? He had never heard of that.
“Dean, did you have a disciple?”
Dean nodded.
“Yes, I took on a disciple in my youth, but… he died in a power struggle.”
“Oh, Dean, I offer my condolences.”
Dean waved his hand with a smile, “That was many years ago. I wasn’t serving in the Empire back then, so you wouldn’t have known.”
Understanding the situation, Rein nodded and asked, “Master Dean, what will you teach me today?”
Facing Rein’s question, Dean smiled, waved his hand, and a magic circle immediately formed.
In an instant, the two found themselves on the Mage Tower’s top floor, which served as Dean’s study.
The study was very simple, with no elaborate magical apparatus… only rows of heavy tomes.
“Ha ha, what do you think of my spatial magic? Interested in learning it?”
Dean’s tone revealed a strong sense of pride.
“Besides, kid, you’re lucky to possess a magical secret art like Instant Casting. If you can master teleportation and avoid any space-sealing artifacts, it would be nearly impossible to kill you.”
After saying this, Dean looked at the study’s disorder and used magic to return each of the books piled on the floor to its proper shelf.
At the mention of space magic, Rein’s eyes lit up with keen interest.
In the Dharma Decline Era, magical tomes of all kinds were already scarce, and space magic, being among the rarest, was even more so.
Even in the Ancient Tome market, space magic books commanded prices several times higher than those of spells at the same rank.
And now being able to learn space magic from Dean was naturally the best opportunity.
“Great… I’ve wanted to learn your space magic for ages, Dean; it’s just that my father always said I wasn’t even Rank 1 yet and wouldn’t let me come to you.”
After Dean finished tidying the study, his gaze flickered with uncertainty.
“Space magic, that’s all well and good, but that… Rein… that secret art Instant Casting… how did you acquire it?”
Seeing Dean’s bashful look, Rein lied.
“Oh, Instant Casting? When I went to the Ancient Relics Market back then, I purchased some jade tablets.”
“One of those jade tablets, for some reason, regained its glow, and only then did I understand that it was the Inheritance Stone for Instant Casting.”
Dean sighed softly… if it was an Inheritance Stone, there was nothing to be done, as an Inheritance Stone was single-use.
Then Dean nodded.
“Well, it appears I’m out of luck after all. I thought Fude had obtained a book documenting the secret art.”
“Alright, then I’ll start by teaching you the basic teleportation spell circle.”
Having said that, Dean used magic to instantly form a pale blue magic circle in the air.
He then began explaining in detail to Rein the essential steps for constructing a teleportation magic circle.
