Chapter 37: Lost it?! Why didn’t you lose yourself?!
The following midday, Rein stepped out of the academy cafeteria after finishing his magic lesson.
As soon as he exited the cafeteria, the person who made him grind his teeth appeared from behind a tree and approached him.
That person was about to take something from his backpack when Rein stopped him.
“Wait a moment! Don’t take that yet!”
Rein immediately glanced around, worried that Sophia might be nearby.
Then he told the man to follow him.
“Follow me. I keep feeling a chill behind me here.”
The man chuckled. “All right, Young Master Rein,” and then followed Rein.
Before long, Rein led him through a teaching building to the vicinity of the Mage Tower.
Here, if anything unexpected happened, he could run away easily.
“Okay, bring it out.”
The man looked around and nodded.
He then set down his backpack and reached inside.
After searching for a while, he suddenly froze.
He furrowed his brow and, in a panic, dumped all the contents of the bag onto the ground.
He anxiously dug through the items on the ground looking for the box.
But there was no trace of it.
“Y-Young Master Rein, the box…the box is gone.”
He looked at Rein with a baffled and astonished expression.
Rein’s mouth twitched.
He grabbed the man by the collar and hissed in anger.
“You even lost this?! Why didn’t you just lose yourself?!”
Facing Rein’s reproach, the man lowered his head miserably.
“I’m sorry, Young Master Rein. I don’t know how it happened, but it’s okay. I’ll return to my family now, and the head should have a backup.”
“If it’s convenient, please let me know where you’re going next, and I’ll bring you the box as soon as I have it.”
Rein stared at him for a long time, but in the end, he did nothing but emit a long sigh.
His interest in Sophia’s underwear had been a mere whim at first, but he hadn’t expected to be discovered by the owner twice in a row.
“What’s your name?” Rein released his grip.
The man smiled as he gathered the scattered items and replied.
“Young Master Rein, my name is Hugh Connolly.”
Rein nodded. “Very well, Hugh. Go back and tell Brent not to send me any more of this information. Pretend I never mentioned it. Or Fabian will really come after me.”
Hugh froze for a moment, then nodded. “Understood, Young Master Rein. I will report it truthfully to the head of the family.”
…
At that moment, in a training room.
“Sophia, look what I got!” Anna entered Sophia’s training room with excitement.
Sophia, who was training, stopped when she heard this and stared in surprise at the familiar box in Anna’s hand.
She immediately set her sword aside and hurried over to Anna.
“Anna, where did you get this box? Is it the one Rein had back then?”
Seeing Sophia’s astonished expression, Anna puffed out her chest in pride.
“Of course. The students at the academy don’t want to mess with Rein, but finding the person who had talked to him in secret was not difficult.”
“I just used a little sedative and got it without anyone noticing.”
Sophia was instantly thrilled by Anna’s words.
“You’re incredible, Anna.”
Hearing Sophia’s praise, Anna preened like a swan.
“Sophia, let’s open it to see what’s inside.”
Anna’s suggestion made Sophia’s cheeks flush.
But remembering that Anna was her closest friend, she nodded.
“All right, let’s open it.”
The two opened the box.
There was nothing inside the box except for a note.
It read: Today Sophia’s underwear is white lace.
The content of the note stunned them both.
Sophia’s face immediately turned crimson.
She clenched her teeth and muttered, “Rein Gray!”
Anna immediately understood whether the note was genuine from Sophia’s reaction.
“Let’s go, Sophia. Come back to my place, and I’ll ask my father for that artifact that can seal a space. Let’s see how Rein gets away next time we run into him.”
Meanwhile, Rein was sitting in a carriage heading to the Morris family estate outside Royal City.
Sitting in the carriage, Rein drew back the curtain and watched the scenery outside Royal City.
As for the Morris family, Rein didn’t have much impression of them.
He only knew that the Morris family was a newly established marquis family.
Because the Morris family had large deposits of amethyst in the Whartney Province, in the western part of the Empire, they were also called the Amethyst Family.
As soon as Rein approached their manor, he sensed something was off.
Several squads of knights were patrolling outside the estate.
It resembled a wartime situation.
Just as he thought this, his carriage and escort were stopped by the patrol.
The patrol captain approached, halted the carriage, and gave a knight’s salute to the knight captain guarding Rein’s carriage.
He clearly recognized the meaning of the lion emblem on Rein’s carriage.
Stopping the carriage was merely a formality.
After seeing Rein’s face, he immediately let them pass.
Then Rein’s carriage entered the Morris family estate unimpeded.
The family’s old butler had also received notice and had been waiting there for a while.
Upon seeing Rein disembark, the butler bowed slightly. “Good afternoon, Young Master Rein.”
“My name is Bertrand Austin, I am the Morris family’s old butler. You can just call me Bertrand, Young Master Rein.”
Rein nodded.
“Bertrand, I would like to see Marquis Morris. I intend to acquire the deed to the Moulin Rouge in Royal City, as well as the related personnel.”
Rein got straight to the point with his purpose.
Bertrand shook his head.
“I’m sorry, Young Master Rein, the family head is not here. He returned to the family lands several months ago.”
“He returned to the lands? Then who’s in charge here now?”
“Young Master Olli is currently overseeing things.”
“Then take me to see him.”
Bertrand nodded and instructed a servant to notify Olli inside the villa.
Then Bertrand led Rein to the reception hall.
After Bertrand led Rein, Fiona, and the knight captain into the hall, Olli entered soon after.
“Rein, long time no see.”
Olli walked to the sofa opposite Rein and poured himself a cup of tea.
Seeing Olli’s haggard expression, Rein curled his lip.
“Just a few days ago, I saw you at the central plaza, watching the spectacle on the sidelines.”
Olli smiled, then grew slightly serious.
“Rein, I know why you’re here, but the Moulin Rouge is one of the most profitable businesses the Morris family has in Royal City. If you really want it, I won’t pester you with haggling. A flat rate of 3,000,000 gold coins.”
Hearing Olli’s price, Rein spat out his tea.
Fortunately, he wasn’t facing Olli, or he would have had to clean it up.
The area of the Moulin Rouge was not small, but at most it was worth 1,600,000 gold coins.
Rein had even been planning to bargain it down to 1,300,000 or 1,400,000, so he only brought about 1,300,000 gold coins with him today.
“Three million?! Olli, do you really take me, Rein, for a sucker? The location of the Moulin Rouge is indeed valuable, but not to that extent. For 3 million, I could buy two Moulin Rouges.”
