“Shh…” Shuxin quickly hushed her companion and put a finger to her lips, signaling for silence.

After surveying the surroundings and confirming that no one was around, she quickly grabbed her small backpack, laid a layer of wild vegetables at the bottom, and placed the rabbit inside, covering it with pig grass.

Once she composed herself, she exclaimed excitedly, “Xinxin, where did you catch this? You’re amazing! We can have meat today—slurp!”

Shuxin pointed in the direction where the rabbit came from and said, “Right over there, and sis, there’s another one!”

She indicated the other rabbit that she had placed at her feet.

Seeing that there was another rabbit next to Shuxin made her cousin very happy as well. After all, she was just a six- or seven-year-old kid—who wouldn’t be craving meat?

Her cousin repeated her earlier excitement, praising Shuxin again, “Xinxin, you’re incredible! Two of them! Let’s take one home for Grandma to cook, and we can save the other for a few days later when it’s busy farming season. This time, Grandma will give you even more pieces!”

“Yay! Yay!” Shuxin cheered, happy at the thought of getting more pieces of meat.

Thinking about the rabbits in the backpack, Shulan lost interest in working. If it weren’t for the concern that their companions might find out if they left too early, they would have dashed off already.

Shuxin also wanted to hurry up and eat the meat, but it was impossible for her to go alone; her cousin definitely wouldn’t let her walk off by herself.

So, she planned to look around to see if there were any trees she could move into her space, aiming for future freedom with water sources.

Soon, Shuxin poured on the sweet words as if they were free, making Grandma Liu’s heart bloom with joy.

Usually, her old man doesn’t compliment anyone, and the two sons he raised are both tongue-tied and simple-hearted. Their daughters have the same temperament, strong-willed and not one to suffer losses, while the several grandsons are all mischievous little rascals with no care at all.

So Grandma Liu had never been flattered like this before. After Shuxin’s flattery, she felt completely dizzy with happiness.

In her heart, she thought: Is it any wonder that this girl is so endearing? Her sweet talking is like honey, making her so precious. I must protect her a bit more in the future.

On the other hand, Shulan watched as Shuxin praised their usually fierce and serious grandmother until she was all smiles.

In just a short while, not only did Grandma give a bit more meat, but she also promised a rabbit leg, which left Shulan astonished.

Shuxin made her grandma happy, and she herself was pleased as well. With just a few sweet words, she exchanged for a rabbit leg. It was quite a bargain.

It seemed that her earlier decision was correct—she was determined to cling to her grandmother’s thigh for future benefits.

What? You say there are rabbits and supplies in the space, and she could always access them? Still, one shouldn’t miss out on the meat that is right at hand. Who would complain about having too much meat?
